My wife just got out of the office with my daughter and said Dr Scher was rude and disregarded all of our concerns. He said to tell him if our daughter sees spots and rainbows which we told him she does and he accused my wife on making suggestions on behalf of my daughter. My wife isn’t easily offended but felt that Dr Scher is degrading toward woman and even got upset at my wife that my daughter prescription sun glasses, sports googles and regular glasses. I would not recommend this doctor,.

He’s nice enough. We’ve been in twice and our small daughter can not understand the nurse who gives her the eye exam. She has a thick accent and I had to jump in and help when I realized she was missing letters because she had no clue what time women was saying. Ugh. However, our main concern is our daughter is supposed to come in for a visit every 4 months. The office does not schedule appointments 4 months in advance. So you have to leave and call back. We do and he is fully booked and we can’t schedule AGAIN because the new schedule has not come out. So… we have decided to leave the office. We have tried twice to make an appointment and both times have been told to wait and call back. It’s now been 4 months and we still have no upcoming appointment. He has 3 locations and we were open to going to any. Still not one appointment open.

We went to see Dr. Colin Scher after an alarmist experience at another doctor’s office. Dr. Scher came highly recommended and, unlike the previous MD who wanted to rush our seven month old baby off to an MRI under general anesthesia, Dr. Scher easily and quickly gave our child an exact diagnosis after a few simple tracking tests! He told us that our daughter’s condition was«classic» textbook diagnosis and he has also told us not to ever have her undergo an MRI unnecessarily(we never told him about the other doctor). We followup with Dr. Scher every six months and couldn’t be happier with the care we receive. The nurses have all been really nice. The front office is professional. Dr. Scher is friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and always takes the time to answer our questions(and my husband had a lot of them the first time we were there). I would recommend this doctor to anyone who needs a good pediatric ophthalmologist and also for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with surgery and other extensive and invasive procedures being promoted as the very first line of treatment. Our daughter has always been comfortable in his office. I read over some of Dr. Scher’s reviews on another site and a few people said he doesn’t answer questions. That is just so far from what we have experienced with him I wondered if they had confused him with another doctor when I read the reviews. We have experienced the exact opposite at EVERY single appointment. I also read a review similar to ours where ophthalmologists wanted to rush the child off to surgery so they could probe the eye under general anesthesia and then the parents took the child to Dr. Scher who fixed the problem easily with a much more conservative approach. The only downside I can think of is that he books out far in advance. Just schedule your appointment ahead of time. There are also satellite offices in SD County you can travel to if you want to get in faster.
