City Tree Christian School

This school is loosing students and has less than about 80 kids from grade K to 8^th. Small class size is good but not when it limits social development and allows the children to see who the teachers pet’s are so clearly. Also the curriculum is very Christian based which is great in some aspects but tying a science experiment to a bible verse is a bit ridiculous. Actual teaching seems to finish at about lunch time and the homework seems to be trying to make up for that. Administration/​leadership is poor and they let go of a lot of good teachers. Some good ones remain but this school is not doing well and is focused on scholarship students which they expect the few remaining full paying parents to cover the costs of. Was a great school but our experience over the past 18 months has not been good with little support, even when asked for and removing our children from this school is the best for them.

My son has attended City Tree Christian school for three years (2 in Pre-​school, 1 in kindergarten) and he is now pre-​registered for first grade next year. I cannot say enough good things about what this school has done for my child and our family. First of all, I have never been in an environment where teachers and staff so genuinely care for each and every child in their care. Every year I find myself thinking that my son’s teacher is the best teacher ever – and I truly mean it. I don’t know that words can accurately capture the love that has been shown to my son, whether it was a hug on a bad day, encouragement when he struggled, or discipline when he needed it. Since coming to City Tree my son has absolutely thrived personally, spiritually, and academically. The pre-​school provided an outstanding educational background to prepare him for kindergarten, including basic reading and mathematic introduction while still making it fun and allowing plenty of time to play and develop his imagination. In fact, my son could read prior to attending kindergarten and I attribute that to the great preparation he received in his two years of pre-​school. His current teacher is constantly going above and beyond to help us challenge him – whether through suggestions or extra curriculum. I also appreciate the family atmosphere in the school. Not only do I know every child in his class, but also many of the parents. And, the children are taught to value diversity and each other. I’ve never seen a school system where the older children all know and look out for the younger children. My son has a 5^th grade reading buddy who always takes the time to make him feel special, whether that is through their reading activities, inviting him to sit with him in church, or other little things throughout the day. It’s not uncommon to see the older children playing with and looking out for the younger ones. Lastly, I have to comment on the well-​rounded education that City Tree is providing the students. In a day when the arts and PE are being dropped from many public schools, City Tree continually finds ways to incorporate them into the classroom and has recently implemented a new technology program. In addition to the classroom based art projects his teacher creates, he also is able to attend an actual art class as well as music. After school he takes piano lessons, Spanish classes, and a sports introduction program through their after care program. For us, the best part is that while receiving this outstanding education he is also learning about Christ and growing in his faith. I am always amazed at the different ways that God’s love and his word are incorporated throughout the curriculum – whether that is through a Science experiment, daily prayer requests, or religious instruction. City Tree is simply a diamond in the downtown rough.

This is a wonderful school! The staff is great, polite and friendly. My daughter loves to go to school and she has learned to accept herself and others and to love God with all her heart!!! A+

City Tree has provided a wonderful experience for my two children, from preschool to their current years in elementary school. I am so thankful for the small class sizes, attentive teachers, and the amazing community of this school. My kids are thriving academically, socially, and emotionally and I give a ton of credit to their years at City Tree.

We have been going to City Tree for almost six months and are very happy and pleased with the school. My son (2 years old) loves all the teachers and has really flourished under their care. They have worked with him on potty training, numbers, letters, and motor and social skills. The school feels very safe and has a great down to earth feel. We loved his home day care center, but moved to City Tree to be closer to him during the day. I’m able to have lunch with him once a week and their weekly newsletters keep me connected to what is happening at the school with photos and fun stories. I would recommend City Tree.

I love City Tree Christian Preschool! My son has been attending for 2 years now, in Mrs Bogan & Miss Amanda’s class, and we have been incredibly happy there! Not only are his teachers fabulous, but all of the other teachers, director, office staff and principal are all wonderful! I love the wide variety of programs my son gets during the week (Spanish, music, art, cooking, garden, chapel, library, etc) and the after-​school options as well (additional Spanish, Playball, dance, etc). I have referred several friends (all 4 of us have kids in the same class this year) and they are just as happy as we are. The preschool is made up of warm, caring, dedicated, patient, loving teachers and the kids are nurtured and feel loved and safe there. Our son has thrived there, and in September our younger son will start there as well! I highly recommend this Preschool!

City Tree Christian Preschool is WONDERFUL! Love this school!
I actually found them on Unilocal,they had great reviews and the school was very close by so I went to check it out and really liked it so enrolled my 2 yr old son part time. The 2 preschool teachers are Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Buckley, he had Mrs. Davis last year and Mrs. Buckley this year. They are both wonderful and really love their job and truly love all the children and care so much about them.
Reason I choose this school and why I love it.

–they learn so much. It’s truly a preschool versus daycare!!! They have circle time, their weekly letters and topics that they learn weekly. They do art’s and crafts, go to music class and the library, chapel and are offered play ball a sport activity to enroll in.
— They help with potty training, they had my son going potty right away after starting .
–I get weekly emails from Mrs. Buckely with what they learned each week, what’s going on in the class with pictures.
–What really stuck out to me the day I observed the class before enrolling was they truly know how to help the children.
Example: One of the little girls was getting frustrated at a lil boy for playing to rough, she kept telling him to stop stop, she was getting frustrated and the teacher told her to tell him why she wanted him to stop… that he was scaring her by playing to rough and to please be more gentle when playing with her. Versus a teacher just telling the boy to stop.
–They are always validating the children’s feelings. If a child is upset one may say I know your upset bc you don’t want mommy to leave but she’ll be back this afternoon.
Amazing school! !!! I can’t say enough good things about this school.

I have had my sons at City Tree for six years now and it has been an awesome experience for both of them.
The teachers and staff have been great, you can tell that they truly care about the students.
Academically my boys have both been challenged by their teachers to reach their potential, the learning environment is such that the teachers tailor things for where the kids are at.
That is possible because of the small class sizes, which allows for a tremendous amount of one-​on-​one and small group learning opportunities.
If you are looking for an academically rigorous environment where your kids will be surrounded by a staff that cares about them and keeps them safe, then City Tree is for you.

When I say go to school and say Merry Christmas, and Happy Easter then things are good. When I can say God Bless you and my son does not lose a full grade that is even better. I love this school and the good work they are doing. Too bad the legal guys won’t give up their parking lot this school would do awesome if they had a High School.

Five months after my initial review, I can’t say enough good things about City Tree. Finding a pre-​school is tough. We checked out over a dozen (OK, my wife screened over a dozen, and we jointly checked out about 4.)
This past week, we had our first parent/​teacher conference, and I’ve got to admit, I was a bit nervous. I’ve sat on the teacher/​principal side of that desk thousands of times, but this was the first time as a parent. We shouldn’t have been surprised that there were no surprises (our daughter’s a peach, and only 2 and a half, after all!)
Still, her amazing teacher (Mrs. Phipps) took the time to answer all of our questions, and assured us that she’d progressing nicely.
If you’ve got a toddler, and your considering a preschool, you’ve got to check this place out. Our daughter loves it, and they love her right back.
