Casita de Colores — Artesanias de Mexico is a small shop in Old Town, San Diego that recently opened in the last few months. Easily visible by the welcoming arrangement of artwork and figurines of skeletons in bright colors. The shop is owned by a warm amicable man named Oscar, who invited all my questions about the artwork, especially 2 paintings along the wall near the register that look like Mexican versions of the illusions that look like 2 faces or a vase. These images, however had 3 possible illustrations. Pretty amazing. The store has paintings, painted tiles, headbands, figurines, stationery, mugs, etc. etc. etc. with the artistic renditions of the iconic elegant skull ubiquitous in Dia de los Muertos(Day of the Dead) art. The store is also packed with traditional toys, Frida Kahlo images, red peppers, and every color you could ever imagine. Tim Burton might have bought the entire store out had he visited.
