So I’ve tried Café Chloe again after giving them another chance. My bad. Again, the food was awful. I had the mussels mussels with frites. Bad choice, 50% of which were turned. To top it off the presentation was a complete joke: they dropped a pile of French fries on top of the mussels. So you have to take a pile of French fries off the mussels(which were nearly rancid) and find s plate to put them on. Then, you have about 20 mussels left. As mentioned above were nearly ready to walk off my plate from the bacteria. After culling out the good ones, you need to get another plate for the shells… Gee whiz, close your doors or just give up and serve Hot Pockets I should have learned from my mistakes. The food is mediocre at best, cooked by a reject from Denny’s. The bottom line is the«chef» could burn water. I don’t know how this place stays in business.

Super cute café /French bistro that has a lot of character. I went and had brunch here on a Saturday morning and as able to quickly saddle up to the bar area(a really pretty bar at that with plenty of space). I ordered one of their white wine mimosas which was crisp and refreshing. For my meal, I got the Croque madame which was delicious and a huge amount of food(no complaints here). A perfectly toasted piece of bread with a fresh slice of ham topped with a creamy perfectly cooked egg on top(notice all the uses of perfect). Service was excellent with the bartender quickly serving me, providing refills, and getting my food out to me. On a fun side note, while I was there I got to see the owner and her daughter Chloe the restaurant is named after. For dessert I ordered the spicy mocha. The photos don’t do this thing justice. Pardon my ignorance but it didn’t come out in a cup but a bowl(no handle). I wasn’t sure how to drink it(one spoonful at a time or slurping it up like the Texaner I am?). I opted to stay true to my Texan nature. That being said, it was very good(my apologies to the other patrons who may have witnessed my social faux pas). Anyways, Café Chloe is an impressive family run business with a lot of personality and class. Definitely worth checking out.

I’m in love! One of my favorite places that I’ll be sure to come back to and to recommended to others! The lavender lemonade was AMAZING! We also had the Greek yogurt which was beyond amazing and delicious! It was perfect with fresh fruits, granola and drizzle of honey The mushroom poached egg and the one with ham was yummy! We also had the bread which came with butter and jam. I totally recommended this place. The service was amazing, friendly and felt like I really was in France. A must visit if in San Diego

Stopped in for breakfast this morning and sat outside on the patio. We ordered a hot chocolate with almond milk and a latte. My friend said his latte was the very best he’s ever had and my hot chocolate was definitely one of the best. We ordered the poached eggs over mushrooms and the puffed pastry turn over with fresh fruit(I can’t remember the proper french names) but both dishes were amazingly delicious! I ordered the eggs without toast as seen in the photo but it does come with it. The service was great and very friendly.

This place was recommended to my husband and I when we planned our trip for SD and we definitely weren’t disappointed! We went for a lazy breakfast on the last day of our vaca before hitting the road to head home. I ordered the croque madame with the lavender lemon mimosa and my husband ordered the popover with the lavender lemonade. Both were outstanding! The food was fresh and the flavors they paired together were delicious. The vibe is very relaxed and comfortable. While we were dressed way down before our long drive, there was a good mix of diners dressed up for work and a couple who appeared to be fixed up while on a date, overall comfortable for any attire. The service was extremely fast and out waiter very attentive. A new fav spot for us!

Café Chloe is located in the heart of East Village on the corner of 9th Ave and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I can’t believe I haven’t been here in over 10 years… The first time I dined here, I remember it being really good– especially the lavender lemonade! It was very refreshing and had a hint of lavender… Then I actually worked in the bakery department a couple years ago and made a lot of the pastries and desserts for their brunch menu. I even got to take a few macarons and other goodies home with me. Over the weekend, I had a friend visiting from LA that wanted to eat good food, so I suggested a few places, and we ended up coming here. I made reservations and was told that we will be seated in the patio, but we were placed at small table inside toward the back instead– it was very romantic and secluded LOL. For being a French restaurant, they don’t offer too many French dishes. After looking over their limited dinner menu, I decided to get the steak frites and my friend got the salmon and a glass of red wine. Our food was ready pretty quickly, which was good because I was getting hangry! My steak was alright and fries weren’t bad– the accompanying sauces weren’t anything special either, but the salmon was actually really delicious! They cooked it medium rare and the skin had a nice crispy texture. Overall, the service was good and food was okay, but I think I’ll check out their brunch menu next time and save room for dessert if I do come back for lunch or dinner since the menu changes often.

Café Chloe is a French inspired restaurant in downtown San Diego. Located on the outskirts of the Gaslamp Quarter away from the hustle and bustle, which makes parking and finding the restaurant a little easier. The Beet Salad is bursting with color mixing red and yellow beets. Dotted with chunks of funky blue cheese, and citrus segments. Greens add a bitter and slightly peppery punch to the dish. The Mushroom Bisque, which was thick and creamy was sorely lacking in salt. Paired with a crusty piece of bread, just a little more seasoning would have made this dish better. The Steak Frites was cooked to a nice medium rare. Topped with herb butter to add a little more richness. Roasted white and purple cauliflower added an earthiness to the dish. The frites were crunchy, but on the cold side. The table next to us also noted the cold fries, which is something that should be made to order instead of «holding» them. After all, this isn’t a fast food restaurant. The frites came with a trio of sauces: ketchup with a hint of horseradish, saffron aoili that was overpowered by the amount of garlic in it, and a watercress agile. The Salmon had a nice crust, but still retained its moisture. Roasted mushrooms, root vegetables and a small side salad rounded out the dish. There was a luxurious beurre blanc sauce. The Bread Pudding was a large portion topped with ice cream and flooded with a whiskey sauce. What’s not to love? The bread pudding was a little on the soggy side, which is the way I like it. The Chocolate Pot De Crème was thick and rich, with a nice dark chocolate bitterness. Paired with a rosemary shortbread type cookie, I thought this was a somewhat strange combination. Overall, this was a nice meal, but with the price point execution should have been a little better, and nothing cold should be coming out of the kitchen.

This place was wonderful! Cute little café with wonderful workers and yummy food. Little loud for my liking, and the seating feels cramped, but I suppose that’s the café vibe! We went for brunch on a Sunday and I had a latte, a pomegranate mimosa, and the croque madame. My latte was HUGE and in a bowl, much like in France which I appreciated. A little too much for me to finish though! My mimosa was amazing. So amazing, I had two. My croque madame, was incredible. I honestly was running my finger on the plate to leave no sauce behind. Best croque madame I’ve ever had. Our server was very friendly and personable, which I greatly appreciated. All of the staff was amazing. Very friendly, approachable, and hard working. Great little bistro in San Diego!

This place gets high marks for décor, service and theme. The food is good, but can’t say it’s that special. We ordered the popover and the eggs easy over. The popover was good, but the filling overwhelms the brioche bun. For the eggs, the menu mentions a baguette, but what you get is just three little slices of bread. Easy to think the bread would be more substantial, so keep that in mind. The place is also pricey, so keep that in mind. Overall, it’s more like a 3.5, but I can’t score like that, and it’s not worthy of a 4.

Searched for good restaurants downtown and this one popped up. Always looking for a new place to have lunch and this one’s a bit of a walk but it was totally worth it! Sat at the bar and reviewed the menu, hoping to find something out of the ordinary. Moules frites(mussels with chorizo sausage) caught my eye and the waiter said it’s his favorite. He also suggested the Nisia as a pairing. Not usually into white wine but figured I’d give it a try. When it arrived, the mussels were covered in a heap of french fries. Several pieces of good news were to follow. The menu says«french fries» but they are basically shoestring. This made it easy to eat just a little with the mussels and not have too much starch to change the taste with each mouthful. Then, the mussels… so good and fresh. Just enough bite and juicy. And juicy was the key to the rest of the meal: the juice released from the mussels when pulling from the shell soaked into the fries. At first I was trying keep everything in the shell to eat along with the meat, but then found it was better to just let it drip right onto the fries! Next came the chorizo. Mostly buried under the fries and mussels, they seemed to be a very small portion, but I found that there were plenty of nice sized half-moons and perfectly spiced. As I got closer to the bottom, all that mussel liquor had time to blend in with the shallots, and found its way into the fries and chorizo pieces. Heaven! The Nisia was spot on with the meal. Didn’t overpower, but was distinctive and added to the overall flavor. Great suggestion, mustache waiter! Café Chloe is about a mile away from my office, but worth every step back and forth. In the rain. Both ways.

On recent visit to San Diego, we loved this place in the East Village. If you miss Paris, stop in, they do take the«Paris meets San Diego» theme seriously. It’s small enough to feel cozy and relaxed(not at all like the larger, more high energy [read: noisy] places in the Gas Lamp district). My wife proclaimed the Steak Frites the best she has ever had. The salmon entrée was also excellent. They also have a nice pairing of desserts and wines, and their recommendation for the Apple Tartin and Tokaji was right on the money. We’ll be back.

We’ve come here several times, which speaks for itself. However this was our first time for dinner. One of the few places in town that has the Mt Eden Chardonnay. Regardless never had a bad glass of wine here. Tonight we had the Charcuterie, duck confit, and the Apple Tartine with the paired wine. I don’t know who handles the pairings, but they know their ‘stuff’Some of the best wine pairings I have experienced in a very long time. The duck was perfect. Great meal. always experience fantastic service too. Highly recommend.

I have been to Café Chloe multiple times and let me start by saying the food is AMAZING! Their brunch, their lunch, their dinner and their dessert all have their own beautiful flavor. I highly recommend the Steak Frite, the Chloe Burger, and the fries! I would have given it 5 stars however there is one issue that has not been fixed. That issue is the service. I am not sure if the servers are trying to imitate the service I have received on my trips to Paris or if they are just clueless because it is so so slow. Don’t get me wrong, their very nice. However if the restaurant is empty and it takes 10 minutes to get ketchup for your fries there is a problem. If you have time and want some excellent French cuisine this is your spot!!! Café Chloe is a winner.

This is a cute but undeniably burgeouie café in a nice corner location in East Village. The place is small but has an open design and very elegant décor. Service was slow on a Saturday afternoon, but the servers were extremely nice without being obsequious. We came for brunch and they had a nice selection of sweet and savory items on their brunch menu. I felt the food was way overpriced but the portion sizes were decent and the food was at least well prepared. I did enjoy my poached eggs with the mushrooms on buttered and toasted levain bread. It came with mixed greens and a very light vinaigrette dressing which was refreshing and tasty. My friend ordered the much lauded mussels and shoestring fries; she said the dish was enjoyable and it was a nice portion size. Again, the overall experience was enjoyable but the price point was a little high, even for two yuppies like my friend and I. On a side note, they have a lovely bar inside the restaurant and right across the street is a Crossfit gym where we were able to get several unintentional glimpses of some eye candy doing their WOD. Hence the additional star for good real estate.

café chloe is a really really solid french restaurant. they do steak frites better than bouchon, and that says A LOT. enjoyed an intimate romantic birthday dinner here with the beau and i was utterly impressed with every dish. bread upon request– café chloe managed to make french bread taste SO good. steak frites– for me. medium rare, perfectly seasoned, and i want more of that maitre d’ hotel butter, because that butter on steak was perfection. and fries? i had fries for lunch and i couldn’t stop chomping away on the shoestring fries because café chloe manages to make something so simple, fries, taste amazing. duck confit– for the bf. he’s adventurous when it comes to trying new dishes so decided he wanted to give duck a try. you get a duck«drumstick» and it was perfectly cooked that you can’t really even tell it’s duck? all he said was«it tastes like dark chicken meat» haha. regardless, i thought it was amazing. the only complaint is that the tables are a bit small for where we were sitting but again, perfectly intimate and romantic :) wouldn’t want my birthday dinner anywhere else! i imagine brunch at the outdoor patio on a sunny day would be as equally delightful!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a few years and over the weekend the BF and I were downtown with a friend and in need of dessert. It was fate and Mardi Gras that drove us into Café Chloe. The place we trusted the Unilocal App to pick was actually blocked off due to the event and so we did a quick new search and followed the app to Chloe’s instead. I’m glad we did — Divine! Now I had a man on each arm(lucky me) one was my own and the other on loan from a friend who was out of town(Team leftbehind!) plus we ordered triple desserts and French wine for Moi. It doesn’t get any better than that! The boys keep their heads from spinning with locally roasted coffee while I went for the bread pudding without hesitation. The Bf had the lemon tart with winter citrus in the form of a candied orange slice — which I think was the winner. Our pal tried the apple tarte tartin(candied chestnuts, crème fraiche ice cream) also delicious. We were able to sit at the bar without a reservation but thats a bet I wouldn’t normally make — reservations Mon Ami! I think the 5th star is hiding in the dinner menu and a date night(hint hint my love!)

LOVEIT! Came here for the first time on Sunday per my coworker’s suggestion. The café is small and quaint. Perfect if you need intimacy with your boo. What to order: Macaroni & Pancetta Gratin $ 15.50: Super good! Comes in a baby size pot but this dish is HEAVYHUNNY! Comes with bits of bacon or ham? I think. Spicy Maya Mocha $ 5.25: OMFG! Order this drink! It comes in a huge bowl! WTF? K… I’m not sure if it has alcohol or not but it tasted like it… It’s probably the spices that they used but I was double guessing if they added something to my drink. I’m not mad. Had me thinking there was coffee liqueur because I started to share feelings with my friend while drinking… Ha ha Bread and fresh butter is an additional $ 1 per person but let me tell you dear, it is WORTHIT! I ate that bread as if I were gonna die tomorrow! My friend and I lost track of time and spent over two hours here. OoOpsie daisy! Sorry! The gentleman who served us(not sure if he was a server or the manager, he dressed trendy) was a super cutie pie and sweet! He didn’t rush us and gave good recommendations. Nice place to meet your S/O without getting caught in your town! Just make sure you bring pepper spray with you when you go here as the area can get defensive when you leave the restaurant AKA thugs and homeless outside.

This review is ONLY for my experience with them during restaurant week. I went here for the brunch restaurant week event and my food was boring. The menu was cut down dramatically too. I chose this place because on the website, it shakes a charcuterie board and steak tartare and some of the restaurant week appetizers. They were not there and my friend still wanted to stay. Café Chloe, you really need to update that online or tell customers up front. The staff was great. Attentive kind. But the things that came out were so uneventful. I got the gem salad that tasted like a Caesar salad from Costco with two dinky pieces of anchovies on it. Not good. Not worth the money paid. For the entrée I got he bistro salad. It was worse. There was very very little meat and it didn’t go well with the salad at all. Dressing was not tasty. I feel bad writing this post because I’ve been here before and got a charcuterie board which I loved! It was generous, well though out, etc. that’s why I wanted to try this place again.

Fromage! Perfectly poached eggs! Pancetta! Brioche croutons! The perfect balance of salty, acid, fresh, sweet for my bistro salad. The lovely cheese plate. Just walking back from my old church with a friend and this was the first place we saw. Super quaint. Walked in and lovely, modelesque, super friendly hostess seated us outside. Then our super friendly helpful server got us our food. The food was friggin amazing. Everything about the whole experience was great. Sunny weather, cute setting, food presentation style great and taste yummy. Price just right for quality and taste. 20 bucks for cheese plate that came with compote, honey comb, apple slices, bread and three cheeses. My perfect bistro salad was 15 bucks.

I came here for pistachio bread pudding. Unfortunately they didn’t have it. So I got the chocolate peppermint bread pudding instead. It topped with vanilla peppermint and had vault sauce. Overall it was very good. It tasted like brownie but less dense. It had right amount of sweetness. The Bailey sauce was smoothly and yummy.

The service is always excellent and they have a super yummy mac and cheese that makes my mouth water like crazy whenever I think of it. I’m not really a big pork eater, but the meat in this mac and cheese just takes it over the top. I’ll always come here for the mac and cheese until someone tells me there’s another restaurant that makes it better.

Stopped into Café Chloe recently while on a sales call downtown. Had never heard of it and didn’t know what to expect, but it looked quaint and had outdoor seating along the sidewalk. Traditional French cuisine(which my unsophisticated palette is not used to), I ordered the bistro salad which was really good. Poached eggs were like delicate pillows, perfectly done and far different than my feeble attempts at poaching eggs. Layered on top of pancetta and bitter greens with a light dressing, it was a light and very flavorful lunch. Service was good and attentive. I consider this place a special treat, not a place I will often visit for a weekday working lunch, but will definitely want to do dinner here with my wife, as I know she would really enjoy it.

This French style café was such a pleasant surprise. The brunch was absolutely delicious and satisfying. They make a perfect cappuccino here. And the brunch entrees are unique with a French twist. I’d describe it as simpler but more flavorful than an American brunch and with a lot more quality cheese in all the dishes. Fromage. We had the Croque Madame(French style Eggs Benedict) and the eggs with applewood bacon dish with baguette and cheese). I would come here again to have brunch again if I were local, but this is definitely a lovely spot in Downtown San Diego. The café is dog friendly as well. A lot of dog friendly establishments in San Diego have water bowls out for the dogs and this place was no exception. Pretty much all these places with a patio work for those vacationing with dogs.

After that awful meal in Seattle, I had to go back to mecca! Came in for a late brunch and just sat at the bar. They were pretty crowded and we were starving! Ordered a bottle of Malbec and the mac and cheese to start! Still the best in all of San Diego! I had the Croque Madame with their delicious mornay sauce! The partner-in-crime had the steak frites with a scrambled egg. My breakfast seriously erased all memory of the hockey puck steak I had in Seattle. Café Chloe had the best brunch menu during restaurant week! Amazing deal and incredible food. Brunch is my favorite, i really recommend their lemon lavender mimosa. Ask for the quiche of the day, try one of their baked breads. Service is always great, the restaurant is small and there is some outside seating. Bar seating is great during busy breakfast times.

I usually come here for dinner & dates, but today, after dropping my boyfriend off at the airport very early, I decided to revisit my old stomping grounds for breakfast. The Bistro Salad does not disappoint. It comes w/pancetta, brioche croutons, two poached eggs, over a spread of greens that is an exercise for the mouth. It is the perfect rendition of taste & exquisite flavor that makes this place a cute dining spot. Because I got here when they were first setting up, the waiter forgot to top off my coffee, as I was tucked behind the corner. But as I got ready to leave, he offered to pour me a cup of coffee to go. I plan to return again, the next time I am in the area. Close your eyes & feast on a moment in Paris.

Café Chloe is one of my favorite brunch spots in San Diego. Everything about café Chloe is amazing! Great food, great service, and affordable. The brunch entrees range from $ 14.50 — $ 21. You definitely have to try one of the flavored mimosas($ 8.50). Out of all of the flavors(pomegranate, rose, orange juice, lavender lemonade) the lavender lemonade is hands down my favorite. In my opinion the two best brunch options are the poached eggs and the Croque Madame. The sauce on the poached eggs combined with the truffled mushrooms is one of the best breakfast items I have ever tried. It’s not the cheapest brunch spot but for the quality of the food it is definitely worth it. The inside is small and quaint and almost feels like you are dinning in someone’s house. The patio is also small but has plenty of shade which is perfect on a sunny day. I only have 2 very small gripes. No bottomless mimosas and the view is of 9th street, which is great for people watching but that’s about it. Other than that this place is amazing. If you are in San Diego especially East Village you have to stop in at least once and try café chloe for brunch!

I was so excited to pay Café Chloe a visit, but I’m not sure what makes it very special. The interior is small and intimate with a few seats on the sidewalk patio and the food was mediocre(but pretty). Also, the service was pretttttty daaang… slow. I had their Steak Frites & their Mushroom with Eggs with their Lavender Lemonade, Bloody Mary, and some hot coffee. Steak Frites(add a egg for an extra cost): The temperature was really off. The steak was very cold, and the herb butter was barely melted on top. I saw them constructing my salad in the kitchen window. They put the fries & arugula salad first, then the steak a few minutes later… and then added the butter 5 minutes later… and then added the egg 5 minutes after that. then served it to us cold. I was prettttty sad but was too hungry to complain. I think it could’ve been much better if it was just prepared and served at the correct temperature. Zucchini Soup= looked pretty, would have tasted good, but again… was cold. Mushroom with poached eggs= Delish! It’s a very straightforward dish with bunch of sauteed mushrooms over some lovely bread. It was a great dish. Didn’t have the best experience, but I would definitely check this place out/visit them again.

Decided to give this place a shot anyways. Couldn’t be that bad right? 4 course menu. (Amuse-Oyster Shooter) Oyster with passion fruit and guava granita — Never had these flavors with an oyster before. But the oyster was fishy and had some cracked shells in it! Someone didn’t know how to shuck em right. Had to spit the shells back out. No bueno. Frisee Salad(w/wild mushroom, pan-fried sweetbreads & bacon vinaigrette) — It was ok. Not a big frisee person. I could’ve just went for a normal salad, but they had to fancy it up with this salad, but that’s just me. Pan-seared Sandbass(sea bass) — This dish was mediocre. Bit bland with the savoy cabbage and the broth they had on the bottom, but the fish was cooked well. Braised Beef Cheeks — This dish was better than the sand bass. Just had more interesting flavors and the beef cheek was tender. Rose lychee sorbet — Great! This was so refreshing after a mediocre meal we had. Loved the«vanilla pearls» that they described it as, but we all know it’s just tapioca. I also liked the crispy rice. It was a nice finishing touch! Dark Chocolate Moelleux — Great ending to this meal. So rich and yummy. Balanced out with the chocolate ice cream and raspberries. All in all, good service but wasn’t a fan of their prix fix menu… Only the desserts stood out.

More of a 3.5… The place is absolutely adorable. It was quite small, but very cozy and intimate. Perfect for a date night in downtown. My friends and I came here for restaurant week. I’ve always wanted to come here but I believe you have to put a credit card on file to make resos for RW, which I’m not a fan of and have been avoiding it, but came to terms. I was sad that the RW menu wasn’t as French as it could be, but it was still good. I was hoping for some escargot! They had mussels and fries with some sausages in the broth. The mussels were good, but the broth was extremely salty. And I had my share fair of good mussels broth. I could not take a liking to the saltiness of the broth at all. For my entrée I ordered the duck. It came with a duck leg over a bed of lentil beans and a potato purée with some cranberry sauce. The duck was delicious! Very flavorful, but hard to eat because it was a leg. I’m not a fan of lentils, but they did a good job on it. The cranberry sauce brought the dish together. My friend had the steak, and I ate her leftovers and it was extremely salty! I didn’t like it. I did though enjoy my dessert– the raspberry crème brûlée. It had actual raspberry in the brulee which is always a plus in my book! I felt like this was more of American New instead of French, but maybe it was just the RW menu. I probably would not go out of my way to eat here again, but did enjoy some of their food.

I absolutely adore Café Chloe. The food is excellent and the ambiance very pleasant. If you’re a fan of chocolate and coffee, you should definitely order a mocha; I’ve never had better. Si vous voulez un bon repas vous devriez manger dans ce café.
