The store is nice and has a lot of nice merchandise, but do not buy something unless you are certain it’s what you want– find a way to try it out elsewhere first. Also, be ready for unsolicited advise about how you should use and do things. The return policy(though they disapprove of returns in general) is only seven days and they charge a 10% restocking fee even on unused items. I asked in advance what the return policy was and was not informed of the restocking fee until I came to make a return. It is on the wall behind the register so it is legit, but didn’t seem fair that they didn’t inform me and I didn’t happen to see it. I’m not used to stores having restocking fees so it didn’t even cross my mind. And maybe you won’t have this problem since I bore it first ;) but the woman did not know how to make a return! I waited at least 15 to 20 minutes as she tried, made several phone calls, and others showing up to help. Quite awkward and time consuming. Lastly, they allowed me to try a meditation cushion in the store(the first time I went). I was trying two half moons which is how my boyfriend’s dad sits and I find supportive with the knees and calves comfortably rested on the floor. The ladies buzzed around me and critiqued my sitting position as being too high and would hurt my back. I never engaged them in questions about the cushions or sitting postures.

I have been going to Hsi Fang Temple and the bookstore for years. The store is beautifully appointed and the salespeople are always helpful and sweet.

I especially liked it different than the mainstream book stores. The monks and nuns were helpful.

I LOVE walking around in the this little neighborhood and one of my favorite stops is this lovely bookstore. I always find something unique: a book, a piece of jewelry, or a knick knack. Perfect place to find neat gifts and prices range from the very affordable to higher quality/priced things. The staff there has always been extremely nice and helpful.

After too much searching, I finally found an agreeable zafu and zabuton(sitting pillows) at Buddha’s Light. This is the bookstore connected to the Hsi Fang Temple on Park in Uni Heights. They sell Samadhi Cushions, Japanese folding cushions and a few fancy Chinese ornamental cushions. You can also find here: clothing, statues, jewelry, books in english and chinese. If you are a member of the BLIA(Buddha’s Light International Association) you can receive a 10% discount. I have some fond memories of this Chinese Temple. I especially liked it when the other half of the bookstore served as a tea room. But it is now a meeting place /yoga room. I had some friends who lived here years ago and it was a great little set up. The monks and nuns were very kind.

Greatly resourceful bookstore for anyone interested in buddhist literature. The place is partitioned into two sections for books and meditation and resembles a library by evading a commercial bookstore appearance. Buddhist artifacts and Japanese incence are for sale, as well. The Buddhist association hosts meditation sessions throughout the week; the classes are free, but donations are welcomed.
