Baja Betty’s

I usually go to a place several times before writing a review, and a good place has consistently good service and food/​drinks. This is that place, baja Betty’s has great margaritas, great food and awesome service every time!!! We have had several margaritas, we did taco Tuesday and had several types of tacos which were legit Mexican tacos, all delicious of course, including baja fish tacos (off menu when we went), tacos de pollo adobada, carne asada and carnitas, all on point! We always do snacks and drinks to start, and the queso dip has a great cheesy taste to it with a spicy kick, and the table side guac show is a nice touch, she asked us how we liked our guac and custom made it, we got ours with medium jalapeños, and tomatoes, onions and cilantro for a legit Mexican guac. And, best of all they always have weekday happy hour promos so you can try stuff out and switch things up! Definitely our new place to go for all drinks (and food) Mexican

Omg I died and went to a all you can eat buffet heaven! The food is fresh and delicious! Bacon is extra crispy just how I like it. They make fresh waffles. Mix between Mexican food and breakfast! They also have dessert and fresh fruit. The staff is amazing! Chet was our server and he made sure I never even had to ask for a refill. He was on top of it and so friendly. Oh, and they have bottomless mimosas! This is definitely my new favorite buffet spot.

I love the vibe of this place! The mexican pizza is bomb, the drinks are strong and the staff is super friendly! What more could you ask for?

I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed BB’s! MO’s universe pretty much dominates hillcrest, and I am ok with that. They have a little bit of everything. We like Baja Bettys, I don’t like their tortilla soup though, little bland. But everything else is alright… It’s not crazy awesome food but I like the atmosphere and the service. It’s easy to get to and we usually find parking pretty l quick.

So a friend and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat around 10pm tonight. While I have never had a negative experience here before, what we experienced tonight was enough to make me never want to go back. We arrived a little after 10PM and the kitchen closes at 11PM. Despite it being almost a whole hour before the kitchen closes we both felt like we were a bother to the staff and they wanted nothing to do with anyone coming in for food this late.
We were given the «taco Tuesday» menu and thought that that was our only choice until we later found out that the regular menu was also available. There were 2 bartenders working yet we were never given a drink refill, silverware, or even napkins to eat with.
We repeatedly watched one of the bartenders touch his long hair non stop. It was almost as if it was a running joke or there was a hidden camera. This guy rubbed his hair every 10 seconds and never once washed his hands. He would touch his hair and then proceed to touch glasses, peoples food plates, and various bar items. At one point he bent over to pick something up off the floor and we watched his hair go in the ice bin. This is totally gross.
We do not expect much, but between feeling like we were bothering the staff by simply ordering food, not even getting silverware, and watching the total lack of proper hygiene this is the last time we will ever be back.

Tonight was my second time at this place, and Chet has been my waiter both times. He is amazing! The atmosphere is to die for. The workers are dancing, they play the most upbeat tunes, so you can’t be anything but happy. Wednesday’s are buy one get one on margaritas, so I will DEFINITELY be here every Wednesday.
The food is so yummy. I’ve had the nachos, Baja fries, and the veggie quesadillas, haven’t been disappointed one bit. If you’re looking for something to do, this is the place to be!

Your food is the ONLY «Americanized Mexican» food I ACTUALLY love!!! However, please note that if it were not for your employee, Chet, that made all the difference in the world in my Baja Betty’s experience, I wouldn’t have been back after the first couple times. The service can be unpredictable … but then I met Chet about a year ago. He is AMAZING!
I talked my 6 coworkers to come with me (first timers) to Baja Betty’s and they LOVED it! I truely appreciate that while Chet was bartending drinks he went out of his way to blow up a penis balloon up for my coworker’s farewell party when he got a second. The guy serving our table had told us he couldn’t make this request happen for us since it was not a birthday. From a business perspective, I would think you’d want your client to be happy and continue to return!
I appreciate Chet’s positive attitude and I believe it is especially important for management to know how valueable and appreciate their employee is.

This place is a lot fun. Great drink specials, awesome food and the staff is the best I’ve ever seen anywhere very accommodating, beyond friendly, really know their menu items. Every I come here it’s exciting, even on their slower days it’s just an awesome dining experience.

If it is your first visit a F’Ugly Betty is a must! Great happy hour and drink specials every night and now with the Mo’s Universe Reward Card you can earn discounts off your total.
Outside seating is best but if you must be trapped inside due to weather ask for a high top table.

Holy frijoles I freakin love this place! When all you want is some decent not so Mexican Mexican food and a place to just chill and drink this joint just hits the spot! It kind of reminds of being back in Cancun where their only mission is to get you drunk so you can have a blast, and we did we had tons of fun!
Found it on Unilocal (of coarse) and I was immediately obsessed with their huge margarita drinks, so after thatno matter what I did I wasn’t going to leave SanDiego with out having one! My wife and I and another couple got there around 8 o’clock on a Saturday with no reservations and got seated right away. The décor puts you in a good mood instantly and the service did as well.
There were seating inside as with an outside patio seating option. We all ordered the famous «Ugly Betty» which is a huge gigantic slushy margarita with a big test tube shot of tequila, a beer bottle and a rubber ducky all up in the cup, or glass. I got the chimichanga pork because I felt like having something deep fried and wife had the flauta. They had the Colorado steak and enchiladas. Every dish comes with rice and beans if your choice. Before our food came out we ordered a queso dip which was bomb to go with the salsa which was also bomb. Then shortly after all our foods came out. The chimichanga was crispy and had great meat flavoring. The beans were yum and the rice was very good not too dry not too wet. The flautas were an awesome size and it too had great crispiness and the chicken inside was delicious. I tried a little bit of the steak Colorado and the enchilada and I was pretty damn happy about the food. Priced reasonably and all worth it. So this place is worth coming or in my cause coming back because the food was good, the drinks were great and the service was awesome, they even have this huge frame you can use to take pix… I love when a Resturant promotes fun!

Pretty standard mexican fare here. But, a fun mostly-​gay spot that gets an extra star for a fun server who was chatty and fun and made our dinner a blast. I think it was Frankie who everyone on here seems to rave about.

I had to wait for my buzz to go down just to write this. Lord only knows the things I say when I’m liquored up.
I am absolutely in love with Baja Betty’s! If you are hesitant to come for whatever dumb reason forget it now and come on over already! Our server, Frankie took good care of us and was probably the most hilarious server ever. He made sure all our needs were taken care of.
Between three people we had 2 fugly Betty’s which was 32 oz of margarita with a Pacifico and a test tube of tequila. WARNING: strong drink! But perfect for our night of debauchery. For food we had the complimentary salsa and chips but also ordered the jala’ wraps and the baja fries and both were so good! My favorite were the jalapeño wraps! The bacon was very crispy and a little sweet which was perfect with the spicy of the jalapeño and the slight tartness of cream cheese. Prices for food are kind of steep but it’s quality.
My only complaint would be the parking most definitely. It’s street parking so I had to circle quite a few times.
But overall my experience met beyond my expectations and I will definitely be back.

If you wanna go hard for your birthday dinner or see some tit this is the go to spot. Highly recommend the «fugly Betty» margarita if you want to black out early. Then sober up by ordering a combination plate before your next round of drinks. Waiters were good too.

During our stay in SD we came here twice. I love the vibe of this place. Our first time there was on a Sunday afternoon just in time for «Papi Hour» haha I love it! Their drink and food specials are pretty hard to beat. $ 4 plates and drinks I believe.
Our server was amazing, he had so much personality and was super friendly. He even brought us a pair of «pink pussy» shots since we were on vacation :)
The nachos and salsa they give are pretty good. I love warm chips and good salsa. The drinks we got were frozen flavored margaritas, or like they say in Cali, blended. They were really good.
I noticed the food comes out in really big portions. I took half of my entrée home. Nonetheless, it was delicious.
Our second time there we arrived in time for Papi hour again and got more blended margaritas. This time we shared an order of the papa nachos. These nachos were so good! We ordered it with carnitas and adobo chicken. We couldn’t finish it all as it literally is a mountain of loaded nachos they serve you. Definitely a must try!
I recommend coming here for Papi hour for some good drinks and food. It is a gay bar/​restaurant but mixed with a great variety of crowd from couples to families.

Nice patio and great food for a bar. We came here on gay pride weekend so it was clearly fabulously packed. I was pleasantly surprised how great our service was for how busy they were. Our server was friendly and hilarious.
We ordered some tacos and a quesadilla, both fresh and tasty. The guacamole was the star, and just to get in to the spirit of things we got a fagtini and a pussy punch (haha). This is a great place to check out for a fun environment and relaxing atmosphere.

Happy National Best Friend Day! I came here today for Happy Hour with my girlfriends & had such a fun time! The workers are so friendly & our server, Archer, was awesome! We came at 530p & we were in the middle of Baja Betty’s Papi Hour (about to end at 6p) & Monday Happy Hour (about to begin at 6p) so if you are looking for the best day for HH, Monday is it! Amazing deals for drinks & food! I ordered:
(Free) Chips & Salsa — Unlimited, yes!
F’ugly Betty Margarita — Perfect for 3 people if you want a nice, tiny buzz! It comes with a test tube shot, Pacifico beer tilted in, & a rubber duckie! If you want more, it is an addition $ 0.50! What a cute margarita!!!
Veggie Quesadilla — I love how it comes with avocado inside!
Guacamole Dip — Delicious! It comes in an edible tortilla dish!
I love that how generous they are with their alcohol, they make their drinks strong! ;P

This was my first trip to this place and I certainly will be back!
First Impressions– This place is fun, with a great indoor, outdoor and barside set up. Great for social interactions.
The Drinks — a full and fantastic drink menu with something for every flavor that you could possibly imagine. I personally recommend the banana margarita, absolutely delicious.
The Food — we didn’t get a lot of food just a vegetarian quesadilla and some guacamole but it was delicious fresh and it came quickly all the things that you want from a restaurant.
The Service — but everything about this restaurant has been wonderful so far the thing that really makes you want to come back is the service the staff is friendly, outgoing and sweet. They really make you feel like you’ve been a customer for years even though you’re there for your first time and they really make you want to come back it’s wonderful to feel special just because you brought your business to this location.
Overall — I had a really fantastic experience here and I can’t wait to come back and share it with somebody new.

I am straight so gay bars aren’t my scene but to be honest I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. It’s a mix of all sorts of people so I was pleasantly surprised about this.
I ordered a margarita, the sampler plate for two and the bean dip. All was delicious, very filling and affordable pricing. I’d definitely come back :)

I love this place!
I’ve only been here twice but I like the location, the atmosphere & the margaritas! This place is huge and has quite and extensive mexican food menu and better yet their margaritas pack a punch! Plus the interior décor is so hillcrest inspired, and trendy it’s fun.
I see they have weekday $ 6 lunch menus which is cheap but I haven’t really tried their food yet so my review is on the atmosphere and drinks alone. I came here yesterday for my birthday and our server, Saul was a doll. He gave us some great recommendations and super friendly service– although this place isn’t one to come to if you’re in a hurry (it can take quite a bit of time) but all in all– I recommend.

Baja Betty’s ohh how I love thee.
I’ve been to this place plenty of times on account of birthday celebrations and friends looking for a good bar/​hang out spot. I think Hillcrest area is awesome in general, and people are always so nice!
Anywho, the main thing I love about this place is the staff and atmosphere. The people here, wether it be staff or other customers always give me a good laugh. Everyone is extremely friendly and you’re bound to make a friend or two while you’re here, especially on weekend nights.
They have all sorts of drinks but I tend to stick to my margaritas. If you go during happy hour id recommend venturing out and getting one of their drinks with a crazy name on it.
I’ve only tried appetizers here (because honestly, who really comes for the food). That I can recall, it has always been pretty good. Nothing too out of this world– but hey, I’m a happy girl.
Make friends with bartenders– they’re cool peoples.
