This place makes the best cupcakes I have tasted probably ever. They provide a wide variety of flavors that, from the 10 or so that I tasted, are true to their title. Their cupcakes are very very moist. They also have other treats and a nice selection of drinks that I have yet to try. They are one of the few places in the area that have a parking lot, granted I think it only has 4 spaces.

Went here yesterday with my nephew for cupcakes and lunch… not at all the same quality as Hillcrest Babycakes, which I expected it would be :/ They only had two cupcake flavor options left, and ran out of their croissant sandwich so I got a quiche and a red velvet cupcake. The cupcake was cold and hard, literally just taken out of a fridge it had been in all day. Because it was so cold it barely had any flavor and whatever flavor it did have was bad! I was really sad, I didn’t even finish it. The quiche was also mediocre. They microwaved it which was kinda lame since it wasn’t that cheap. Oh well, my fault for setting expectations. Not going back here ever :(

I would’nt even give this place a star. This place sux. We took our dog to the park next to Babycakes in Morley Field. We thought maybe we give this place a try for lunch since we like the place in Hillcrest. We ordered a stuffed croissant with ham and suppose to be a homemade chicken pie. OMG… THISISTHEWORSTPLACE I HAVEBEENTOFORFOOD. The croissant was flat, cold and nasty. Looked like someone just slapped some cheese on top and microwave it. The homemade chicken pie tasted like freezer burnt. The tomato basil soup I ordered tasted like it was tomato paste from the can. My dog would’nt even eat that. For the money we spent today for lunch was not worth it. McDonalds taste better than what they serve for food. I would not even recommend this place to anyone, I would be to embarrass for them. People, dont waste your time and money at this place.

another hit by the boys at babycakes! cute little lunch/babycake stand at the balboa tennis club. the staff is sweet and upbeat — the two things i have come to associate with babycakes employees. had the GIRL cheese sandwich. as in, «girl, that’s one damn tasty sandwich!» panini style sandwich with four cheeses and turkey, and a yummy little side salad. of course i had to take home some of the babycakes, which sadly were a little on the stale side. but it was a hot day, so that might have had something to do with it.

I have always been a fan of Babycakes so when I had to be down in Balboa Park and craved a bite to eat, I figured this would be the ideal place to go. Babycakes Café is located right by the Balboa Tennis Club tennis courts at Morley Field. The setup is a little more minimal compared to that of their other location. There is no giant display case, bar, etc. They do have some nice outdoor seating as well as indoor if you include the tennis club. They mainly offer salads, paninis, muffins and cupcakes but have some other items as well. The pricing isn’t cheap but I wouldn’t called it ridiculously expensive either. I opted for a «Girl Cheese Panini» with Smoked Turkey. $ 9.25 after tax etc. A family ordered a meal right in front of me and their order took about 20 minutes and it took roughly 25 – 30 for mine to arrive. A fairly long wait but luckily I didn’t have anywhere that I immediately needed to be, this could be an issue for some though. I was offered chips, fruit or a drink for the wait though, but I said it was okay and I declined. The Panini did finally arrive and it was delicious. The bread(Ciabatta) was soft and warm, as was the cheese, it was practically dripping out. It was simply delicious and I probably could have eaten another one. The guy working there was extremely polite and friendly(just as is the case with their other location) so that is always a plus. They do tend to run out of some ingredients here and there(not in my case, but they ran out of something for the family ahead of me) so that is always something to be careful of. The only downside to this is that there seems to be only the one person at a time working there, given this does make sense since this location doesn’t attract high volume like the other one, but it does have it’s drawbacks such as wait times etc. That’s the only real thing I can knock this place for, but if you aren’t in a terrible hurry it really isn’t such a big deal. The location is great and the food is delicious so you really can’t complain too much. I don’t mind stopping here for a meal/treat while I’m in the Balboa Park area.

I am so glad this place has opened in balboa park. It’s nice to be able to walk my dog and on a warm day take a little break at babycakes and get a cold drink and snack. I like the tables outside, the water for my dog and doggie treats, and the menu selection. I got a panini which did the trick and filled me up! The only thing I can think of that might make it nicer is if they had some soft background music playing. not sure if that would be okay with the tennis players but I think it would add to the ambiance a little bit. Overall a nice experience, it wasn’t very crowded when I went so I hope this business is successful in the location because it is awesome!

(Went a few weeks ago) Not a big fan of the cupcakes but the breakfast is AWSOME… I had the French toast & and a extra side of fruit and my friend had the red-velvet pancakes. Those two items are a must try. The French toast is not like other places or how you would make at home by dipping some bread into a mixture it’s different(hard to explain).

It would be the understatement of the century to say that I was merely excited about the brand new Babycakes location in Morley Field… I was *THRILLED*. After bailing out of Hillcrest and moving into my new digs in North Park, one of the things I missed most was having some of the best cupcakes in town practically on my front porch. However, thanks to the fine Babycakes folks opening up this new location, now I no longer have to feel verklempt about a lack of cupcakes within easy reach. In fact, the cupcakes are closer than ever! Located in the clubhouse tucked amongst the Morley Field tennis courts, the new Babycakes has all the charm, amazing staff, and delicious sweet treats as the original. Everything from the signature«baby» cake to the blood orange cupcakes(my favorite) are represented. Perfect! There’s a growing list of savory items too, like soups and paninis, in keeping with the more café-style feel of the place. The setting is perfect too. Are you tired of breathing in the 5th Ave exhaust and staring at the Rite Aid parking lot while eating your cupcakes on the patio of the Hillcrest Babycakes? Come to Morley Field instead, and have those same cupcakes amongst the serenity of the eucalyptus trees — and shirtless tennis players galore. What’s not to love?

For what looks like a small deli the food and service, by Shane, was amazing! I ordered the pork sliders while watching a little tennis and enjoying the sunshine. The sliders where better than any I’ve ever had, will be back soon!
