I work in the building and will only go down to Appetite when I’m pressed for time. I don’t know what has happened with this place but the crappy service(or lack thereof) along with issues with ordering on-line which I normally do, or even calling in an order has become so problematic I will no longer go there even if I’m starving! I am so over this place and the food isn’t all that great, pricey and not worth the headache. Again today(and for the last time) my on-line order could not be found. I wish our building would get a decent deli!

Working downtown and looking for great lunch options this week. This one looked promising, but I was totally disappointed. I ordered the thai salad with seared ahi tuna and the chicken tortilla soup. While the soup had a nice spice to it, there was about one spoonful of «stuff»…including one sad little piece of chicken. No tortilla, no toppings. Boring and sad. The salad was supposed to have seared ahi tuna. Not sure if these cooks have ever worked with ahi before. It should be seared rare. My chunk of tuna was completely brown inside and out. And the salad? Boring cabbage salad. Nothing special there. Sorry, but this was a complete miss!

The food is good here… If you can stand the horrible service. One time I ordered oatmeal and watched it sit at the pick up counter for ten minutes before one of the girls gave it to me. If I were you, I would call ahead and pick up your order. Update: the girls who work here are rude and some of them are mentally incompetent. Never ever going to this place again… No matter how convenient.

I went here for the second time today. It is a short walk from my office and my lunch buddy required a Caesar salad so I had to find a spot. This is an order at the counter and take out or you could dine in and they give you a number and will bring your food to you. For in-restaurant dining they serve their salads in metal bowls, sandwiches and platters on actual plates and with real silverware. I opted for take out this time. I chose the French Dip. It is their Flat Iron Steak With Aged Provolone on a baguette Served with Au Jus.(It typically has mushrooms too, but I got it with out.- side note, the woman who took my order and rung me up knew enough to ask me if I was allergic or just didn’t want them! Nice touch.) My sandwich was delicious. Bread choice fit perfectly, the steak was flavorful and moist, and the cheese(although I typically like more) added a great accent to the flavors. I wish their was more meat and cheese in it, but I think it was good enough. I will be back for this sandwich. My buddy also really enjoyed the Caesar salad.

Been here a couple times due to being trapped in this building. Good option for a quick fix. Actually the breakfast burritos are shockingly good. They’re almost like gourmet burritos with very fresh ingredients and some salsa that will surprise anyone. It’s a cool interior, but feels drab in here like there’s a lack of oxygen and some bad lighting. Prices and service could use some help.

I like this place for lunch. If the items cost just a bit less, I would give this place five stars. I love the chipotle chicken sandwich, and the Thai salad(with roasted chicken). The baguette is soft and quite doughy(on the edge of feeling undercooked), so unless you like it like that, ask for your sandwich toasted/baked. When baked, the baguette is fantastic. If this is your first time here, ordering can be a bit confusing, as you sometimes can’t tell who is waiting to order, and who has already ordered and is just waiting for their food.

This was not my first visit, but definitely my last. I gave 2 stars instead of 1, because I’ve been there before and though I can’t remember what I had, something made me come back. Was this just a bad menu choice? Maybe, but when I say ‘bad’, I mean ‘disgusting’. I went to lunch with 2 friends on a weekday and 2 of us were craving burgers. There are at least 3 different burgers on the menu and the menu isn’t that big, so we went to Appetite as a compromise. The counter staff is not very friendly, they make statements as if you should’ve already known how their meals are served. Whatever, I can deal with rude people, but it’s the food that makes the restaurant. When the burgers came out, I did notice they were pretty gray. Each bite was worse than the last and if I could guess how these patties were made, it would be from skin and fat only with mostly filler. There was little to no taste and it was almost chewy like really soft rubber. I’m actually getting a nasty feeling in my stomach just remembering this. What gives? My friend hated his as well and joked that it was like the 10 for $ 3 packs of burgers you get at Costco. I have actually gotten those before and they at least tasted like something. I felt like I was eating some sort of waste product. It was horrible. It wasn’t just ‘a bad one’, because we both got the gray rubbery patty. Please take burgers off your menu. Based on this experience alone, I would never return. If you need a fast meal, don’t mind dealing with people that seem to not understand that they are in the service industry, and don’t mind eating trash, this is the place to go. Again, though, I had been before and I went back, so it can’t all be bad. But, are you willing to waste a meal trying to find out?

Very OK food, and OK service. There’s a lot they can do better and get a higher rating. It can be faster, as office folks are in a rush. They can stop screwing up orders, and the food can be better.

I eat here pretty often as a I work close by the building. The appearance inside this place has a very clean/retro look which I love. I feel like I have tried so much on their menu and have never been disappointed! Ranging from salads, sandwiches, panini’s, burger etc! The staff has always been very friendly when I come in here and actually go out of their way to serve your food if you are eating there(: This particular visit I ordered the Eggs Benedict for breakfast and this dish was amazing to say the least. I had to take a picture so here it is! Thank you Appetite Staff!

If you have to hang out waiting for your passport to be ready this is the place. It’s very clean and well stocked with a large healthy and comfort food menu selection. Good for breakfast and lunch(egg white omelette and fruit/Starbucks coffee/tuna sandwich) and the staff was super nice and accommodating so I could work on my laptop for several hours as I waited.

Was in downtown area today in a sea of endless office visits. Famished, We walked in around 3pm. Their was 3 women behind the register. Before I gathered my child’s order, husband and my own the less than happy woman who decided to punch in my order was quick to cut me off(as I ordered a salad) and tell me I could only order sandwiches. Luckily, the nicer of the 3 stepped up and said she’d make me a salad. Lucky me! Their stated hours are until 5:30… My salad comes out, they bring out my husbands sandwich. The food is ok, reminiscent of hospital cafeteria quality. 15minutes later I notice the chili cup I ordered for my child hasn’t been brought out. By the time I walk up to the counter the nice lady who offered to make my salad is gone and the only one left is a long faced younger female who is absolutely less than thrilled to answer my question of «is the chili cup I ordered on its way?» Her dry LA type of «orale eh homes» response as she’s texting and no eye contact«oh, they ain’t brought it out to you yet?» Was rather annoying. As we are eating I can hear dry LA type chick running business into the ground by telling overly nice business guy they close at the nearing time of 3:30! She told me 4 and stated hours say 5:30pm. She was just completely gross taking off her work attire and staying behind the counter talking to customers as if she was still working with her hair down and cheap tattoos completely exposed. I can’t see this place staying in business long. The gravy train of overly worked office people who have forgotten what a good meal is and non locals has to run out at one point.

Went back to give it another shot today because I was pressed for time. 10 – 15 minute walk there and back. Sat down at my desk, first bite was pretty good… maybe I was wrong about this place. Third bite, I get a piece of metal in my sandwich. I called to complain and they offered to give me another sandwich if I would bring it back but I don’t have time to walk there and back again. They seemed sorry but having foreign objects in my food(especially metal) is a HUGEPROBLEM. EATHEREATYOUROWNRISK.

Delicious, fresh salads, sandwiches, and soups here. Sometimes a line, but it moves very quickly. Very clean and pleasant(surprisingly large) seating area. Glad to have this place in the building!

I have been a loyal customer when it was called Pacific Western Deli! With change comes ups and downs and I have patiently waited to write this review because they had almost all new staff, new menu and my favorite employee Rita was gone for awhile. She’s back, all the employees seems to better trained and I have had an opportunity to taste more items on the menu. I will admit I was a lil annoyed when my favorite sandwich from the old deli did not make the cut. But I have a new favorite(tx to fellow Unilocaler/friend Ron B) the Chipotle chicken sandwich on a french roll add Avocado! I have also had in in a whole wheat wrap and it’s good too! A MUSTORDER: Roasted Lemon pepper Chicken Soup is soooooo good I want the recipe! The Solana Beach breakfast sandwich is delish and I really liked the chorizo burrito not super greasy like some taco shops. All in all opening a new spot comes with hic-ups and I think they have improved immensely!

The other reviews make me feel lucky, but also, that I need to share my experiences. Called and ordered over the phone from my office a few walking blocks away. Ordered the Chipotle Chicken sandwich with added avocado. It was so good, I recommended it to a friend who loved it as well, then went back and ordered it again a week later(today). Superrrr good! I sampled a friends fries today, they were nasty, but he said his burger was great! The lunch staff was friendly and polite. If others are rating one stars, maybe their expectations are too high and should be at George’s in La Jolla for lunch. This place makes some delicious sandwiches and burgers! A little pricey, and the fries sucked, but overall, a strong four star spot! Try it for yourself, write a review, and let everyone know! I promise it’s not as bad as others are making it sound. I went based on word of mouth from a friend and didn’t check the Unilocal reviews before I went and I am glad I didn’t because I probably wouldn’t have gone but now I’m glad I did!

I tried and tried and tried to give this place a chance and this morning was the final straw. I work in this building and having the café downstairs is convenient but they’ve blown it too many times with bad service. The menu descriptions of the food always sound great but the follow through and execution are poorly done. Coupled with the long waits and bad customer service, I would rather walk 2 blocks to Nosh Delicatessen. This morning I ordered their Eye Opener breakfast sandwich. It’s eggs over easy with cheese and tomatoes on toast. However, when I got to my desk and unwrapped it, there were hair strands in the sandwich. Not just one strand, but multiple. I will now be hangry until lunch.

Their food is exactly what it looks like– office building food. Completely meh. If you’re working in this building or in the area, and need something in a pinch, they have satisfactory sandwiches and salads, but nothing to write home about. There used to be another café place in this building that had awesome espresso drinks and pretty good food. It’s shame that it’s gone now and was basically replaced with this business, that«Has Starbucks coffee.»

Must be good. it is full of officers from the San Diego County Sheriff office(lol). Seriously, though, tuna salad sandwich was above average. Served on nice metal dish, not paper. Pickle slice was tangy and crispy. Whole wheat bread, perhaps artisanal, was sliced thick. All in all, good value.
