Discovered this place when we stopped in to Fall for a beer. Always nice to see vegan options popping up. Decided to get a Philly Cheesesteak and Steak n Blue wrap. They were absolutely delicious. Not much of a Bleu Cheese flavor, but still really good. They have a huge menu, so we’re excited to try them again. Can’t wait!!!

Im not a big fan of vegan food but this place was delicious! I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and it was pretty flavorful and most importantly, it was large! Staff was also very friendly which makes me give it 5 stars! Definitely recommend.

I visited the Hillcrest Farmers Market during my first visit to San Diego last weekend. Of the vegetarian and vegan options, I decided to get something from Anthem Vegan. I went with the Cajun Chick’n wrap sans blue cheese dressing. It was delicious. It was kind of creepy how the faux meat they used had a chicken-y consistency, but it was really good. I had to wait a while for my wrap, because I think they forgot it. I let it slide since the service was good. The wrap was enough for two meals for me. I would definitely visit again if I’m in town on a Sunday.

Sunday’s there is no alarm — my only goal is to awake up before 2 so I can go get my Anthem Vegan meal from the Hillcrest Farmers Market! If it isn’t the Sunday only biscuits n gravy special I venture to try their daily specials. Yesterday was the Gangsta wrap — it’s like they read my mind!(I love their all their wraps with crispy onions. . and heat. . foods gotta kick you in the face.) This gangsta wrap has spicy, crispy, crunchy goodness I can’t wait to get more of!

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, it fell short for me. I’m not an avid vegan food consumer. I do like my meats but I am not opposed to vegan and I do enjoy it. I got the gangsta wrap and I liked all the ingredients in it. The crunch was nice, the wrap was tasty, the crunchy onions were a good touch. The flavor though, it was so salty. Overboard salty. Instead of the bleu cheese dressing, I got avocado ranch and all I tasted was buffalo sauce and salt. If I didn’t know they put ranch in it, I wouldn’t have any idea. Not to mention it was so greasy. I did not look graceful eating it with all the grease oozing out all over my hands. Maybe other things on their menu have better flavors but this wasn’t it.

I’ve been here a few times and have always liked it. I had the special tonight. It was the cajun chicken wrap, but with buffalo and bleu. I think it was called the gangsta wrap. Absolutely amazing, delicious food. Thank you!

Out-of-town vegan here and I’m so glad this came up on my google search. Always exciting to find last minute tofu-scramble! Staff’s super cool and down-to-earth/friendly. The food was great. LOVED the potatoes that came w/the tofu scramble. They give you a wooden fork and what I believe was a biodegradable container. Way to go the extra eco-mile!

So far, this is my go-to for vegan burritos! The price and size are identical to that of a regular burrito. My boyfriend, his brother, his brother’s friend and I were craving burritos and since half of the group was vegan and happened to be the same group that was driving, we went to Anthem, which on this particular night was located at a brewing company. I wanted to order poutine and biscuits and gravy but I was told breakfast items are only served on Sundays. So overall, I ordered 2 soycal burritos, 2 Aztec burritos and 2 cheesy tatters with guacamole. Our total came out to be ~$ 42, which is not bad at all. My boyfriend and I went half and half on our burritos since we got different ones but I enjoyed the soy-cal burrito the most! The 4 of us have the biggest appetites ever and our order satisfied us. The service is okay, not great, not horrible but completely understandable since it’s usually 1 – 2 people taking and making orders. I will definitely be returning to Anthem for burritos and hopefully breakfast one Sunday!

I just love the food here, especially the wraps more than the sandwiches(because I’m not too big on bread to begin with). The Avo Ranch Chik’n wrap is my favorite, then the Steak N Bleu. I have yet to try the breakfast foods, but they are next on my list… 5 stars considering it’s a FOODSTAND, not restaurant, so I’m not factoring the sometimes irregular hours or locations, or not being able to set up due to weather in the winter, etc. The good thing here is if they are not going to be there they usually update the voicemail so I always double check before driving over there. Good interaction/customer service. Some Gluten Free options(not totally my thing but I know it’s important for many people). Sometimes they offer delivery which is also great, although I haven’t tried it before. Room for improvement: on the space: basically it’s a food stand so there’s no seating, although they have a couple tables to put a plate on and eat standing, which is better than no tables.

Oh man! Where do I begin!?? I had the SoyCal burrito with soyrizo, Karne, chipotle saucy deeeeliciousness and wahkamole! That thing was the size of a 10 month old baby! I was pretty full after scarfing down half the burrito, but couldn’t resist polishing it off. I wonder if they would consider renaming this place to Om Nom Nom, because that’s the only thing I do here. See you guys Wednesday… and Thursday… and Friday… and Saturday…

Yep. The steak and blue is all it’s cracked up to be. Don’t worry, fellow picky eaters – one of my least favorite things is terrible meat replacements, and Anthem’s karne is no such thing. The whole sandwich was crazy delicious and every element worked perfectly together. I am so glad that a solid vegan choice is around at this farmer’s market. Bravo!

Sooo I met a charming attractive guy. He proudly announced he was Vegan and an MMA fighter within the 1rst 5 minutes.*Womp womp* I immediately was sad. No and NOOOO that was a double no. Vegan’s? Come on now and an MMA? Oh hell no. MMA guys well they have all been hit one 2 many times. They thrive off adrenaline and that usually means drama. I am anti drama. /PASS I enjoyed our time together and took things with a grain of salt during our brief time together. We exchanged stories of horrid Vegan Places. I had firmly decided I do not like fake meat I would rather eat veggies. He told me I had to try Anthem before I ruled out fake meat. He insisted I went to bad places(Moncai, lovinghut etc). I had decided I would try them based on my respect for his opinion. I have also been having health problems and I feel like everytime I eat meat I get sick. That is the ONLY common factor thing that seems to be triggering my sick times. So i had already been starting to go Vegetarian, not Vegan. I felt better with no meat. The cheese and dairy was a tough one that i was not willing to give up. Anthem does in fact rule on the Vegan front. The aztec burrito with soyrizo and the PPNBB are 2 of my favorites. The Fckin YUM biscuits in in fact Fckin yummy hence the name. And well for someone who does not like fake meat, the Thanksgiving Turkey Special Sammich is AMAZING, seriously i bought a second one for later after scarfing down the first one last week. It has cornbread stuffing, cranberry relish, Turrky, sage thyme cream cheese spread, and comes on a toasted garlic rosemary focaccia bun. They should have this all year round, it’s not fair. So if you see it on the menu GETIT, seriously. Anthem debunked my myth that Vegan food and fake meat sucks.

Mastery of Seitan. Anthem is the best purveyor of faux meat in the plant based community of San Diego. Sandwiches, Wraps, and Mexi-Interpretations are the heart of the menu. For my lunch I tested the Poyo Asada Quesadilla and the French Dip. The Dilla: Blackened Tofu, Cashew Cheez, in a white tortilla and includes black beans and guacamole. Very good and an acceptable remake of the millions upon millions of quesadillas I have noshed on. The Dip: Seitan, red onions, soft hoagie roll and a delicious peppery au jus. A mind blowing creation. Unfathomable how you can make something that tastes as close as this does without the key components. This stand is more carnivore friendly than any other vegan joint in town and worth a look from all who come to the Markets with a hungry tummy.

Sometimes I just come to the Farmer’s Market to eat here! My favorite is the Chick’n Cordon Bleu! The french bread is crisp and buttery! The chick’n is so flavorful and goes really well with the vegan ham slices, cheesy cheese and spinach! The cajun wrap is wonderful as well! It is savory and mouthwatering! Wish Anthem Vegan’s part of the Eastlake Farmer’s Market. I would be there every Tuesday! Until then, see you every Sunday!

Anthem Vegan rocks! I had the pleasure of stumbling upon their stand at the Hillcrest farmer’s market. There are an amazing number of vegan choices at this farmer’s market, including African food, Indian food, Italian… you name it. But I kept coming back over to Anthem Vegan to eye up their enormous and extensive menu full of interesting options. With so many choices, I had difficulty deciding what to order and chatted a bit with the nice and helpful lady behind the counter. I finally decided on the pollo asada quesadilla and a side of poutine because I was just so damn intrigued by how they’d do this. The pollo asada quesadilla was enormous! It must have weighed a few pounds and included a large side of beans. It was incredibly delicious, with two kinds of cheese(Daiya and their own homemade blend), perfectly seasoned chick’n, and a nice smattering of sauces to top it off. It was so flavorful, hearty, and indulgent without being greasy or a gut bomb. The chick’n was chewy and really did taste meaty. This was easily the best vegan quesadilla I’ve ever had and could easily hold its own to a dairy laden version. In fact, I would say it was way better than a dairy version! The side of beans were a great accompaniment. They were quite unique in that they had chopped up peppers and onions alongside the beans. The poutine was very different but just wasn’t my thing. First off, the potatoes weren’t fries but roasted herbed potatoes instead(I was told this ahead of time, though). And the gravy that covered the potatoes was a bit bland and very greasy. The whole dish felt uninspired and not well put together to me. Unfortunately this dish was as much of a miss as this pollo asada quesadilla was a hit. Oh well, it was worth a try. While waiting for my food, I saw a dude leave their stand with a burrito almost as big as his head. I know where I’m going the next time I’m in San Diego on a Sunday!
