Still one of the best deals in Hillcrest, a classic installation on 5th avenue for those who wants a delicious Greek meal without the pretentious atmosphere. Jorge is welcoming and sweet and will keep attentive as a virtual one man crew at this great Mediterranean restaurant. The lunch and dinner meal deals are winning! Also don’t forget to try the«flaming cheese” — but watch your eyebrows! The lemon oil gooey sour cheese appetizer is to die for! *mouth salivating now* plenty of vegetarian options and all meals come with soup, salad and French fries! Yum!

I dont even like Greek food but loved this place. Honestly one of the best meals I had in months. The bill was incredibly low; two entrees and a desert for 21 bucks.

Probably the worst gyro I have ever had! I have been to gyro shops in greece, all around europe, and many others in california, and I would put this resturant on the bottom of my list. The meat was sitting out, precut and quickly heated up to lukewarm and overfilled with little effort into the pita bread. It was garnished with a few onion slices and only one tomato slice. When I asked for extra taziki, the worker said it was in the box. It wasn’t. There was just a lazy slop of the yogurt sauce on only one end of the gyro. I can’t remember the last time I wrote a Unilocal review. I couldn’t in good concious let this one slide…

This is the CUTEST little greek café. The owner runs a one man show. This place has an awesome lunch special that comes with tons of food and a drink! I always call ahead to give him some time bc lunch time can get crazy here!

The cutest family owned restaurant in Hillcrest. My fiancé and I ordered the saganiki(to die for, sooo good) and gyro sandwich with fries. Everything was fresh and delicious! Love the traditional and peaceful vibe of this restaurant. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

I almost tried everything in this place and love it! Their lunch and dinner deals are so awesome and soooo affordable! Who gives you a dinner with cup of soup and nice size salad for $ 8? This place always rocks! The owner usually works by himself and he try to give you a good food with good service. Try gyros dinner plate for sure! And dolmakis! You will love it

Our friends ordered take out from here and it was probably a good ½ hour before we ate the gyros but they were still hot and fresh. The meat wasn’t gamey as a lot of it can be. The gyros were loaded with tender meat and the side salad was a good portion and really tasty. We all inhaled the food with not one bite left. Our friends have been going here since it opened which I think was at least two decades ago. I would definitely return to try other things. Can’t speak to the pricing as they paid!

The food is pretty standard greek affair. The portions are decent and the staff is really attentive. Nothing really fancy about this place, but a great spot to hit after you frequent the shops on 5th Ave.

Absolutely one of the finest establishments in San Diego! Simple, tasty, wonderful and economical! I have been coming here for close to 18 years and have never had a bad experience. They have been open for 23 years and do just fine. It may not be the nicest looking place or the cleanest place but the food is awesome. Try the lunch specials for the money it can’t be beat.

Omg! This place was so delicious and extremely affordable. I’ve gotten a similar dinner elsewhere in San Diego, but this spot was almost half the price and had more food. There was sooo much food. My husband and I both ordered dinners with beverages — Our total was under $ 20. It was our first time there, yet we felt as if we were regulars. Every interaction with the staff gave us that familiar feeling of being at a family member’s house or old friend’s place and their parents are making an extra plate of food for you. Overall, this place is great! We will be back and will be recommending this place to our friends.

I live around the corner from Alexis and it’s the best food around. Cheap, tasty, hearty, and we can easily turn a dinner(which includes soups, rice, French fries, salad and tzatziki for under 10 bucks!) into our next meal. It has a home cooked meal feel so I bring all my visitors and family there for a quick bite before any adventure. The waiter is classic, quite, and very helpful. When we get takeout, he says«5 minutes». When I order any drink, I get a refill. Service is quick and calm. Everyone orders wine. Go for any lunch or a chill dinner. Vegetarian and classic Greek-American. Delicious.

Alexi’s is probably one of the better Greek spots to pop into if you are looking to get a great value for the money, in terms of portions. However, the overall quality and a lackluster customer service orientation rubbed me the wrong way. We started with their hummus plate. The hummus seemed fresh, but it was bland and lacked flavor. I rarely add salt to my food at the table, but this was an occasion where I was compelled to do so. The veggies that the plate came with were fresh, but they were cut too thick and haphazardly. The pita bread was fresh and had a nice light toasty crunch to it. My gyro sandwich was huge. Loved the flavor of the meat. I thought that the yogurt sauce was bland, though. It needed some additional garlic, in my opinion. The french fries I suspect are frozen. Not a huge crime, but they lacked seasoning. Overall, my rating would at least be a 4 if it wasn’t for the attitude of our waiter. He wasn’t very friendly. I’m told that Greek people are naturally stoic? Anywho, even if that’s the case I think there should at least be a modicum of effort to make patrons feel welcome. I felt like we were more of an inconvenience to him. Because of this alone I likely won’t be running back anytime soon.

When you walk into this cute café there is no doubt about it: you’re in Greece. The décor, the music, the staff. It was a little warm, the door was open and no ac. That’s OK, since San Diego cools down nicely after the sun sets, which is what time we arrived. There are about 15 small tables, we pushed four together for our large party of 9 against the wall soft bench. Only one man was serving everybody in the restaurant, as well as handling the to go orders and running the register. His sense of urgency was appropriate, and he didn’t forget anything we asked. It did take a bit longer to get drinks, but the wait was well worth it. We ordered the Greek dinner. It came with lentil soup, Greek salad, gyros, chicken souvlaki, spanikopita, pita bread, tzatziki sauce, french fries, and rice. A lot! Me and the hubby split that plate and were fully satisfied. All of the food was delicious! If there was more staff to help serve, I’d give a five star rating.

The staff seemed friendly enough, but this is the WORSE(quite frankly GROSS) recipe of food I’ve eaten. I ordered a Falafal Sandwich, Dolmades, & Baklava Falafal: BLAND and BURNT Dolmades: hard, stiff, filling was almost crunchy(UNDERCOOKED) — the chef said it comes from a CAN Baklava: SOGGYSOGGYSOGGY NOTHINGHADFLAVOUR and the consistency of the food was ALLWRONG.

Whenever I read a poll online about«Non-Americans who have been to America, what did you think?» The number 2 comment behind«everything is so far away» is «the serving size at restaurants are too large.» I am about 90% sure that all of those people just happened to go to Alexi’s Greek café. Seriously, for $ 9.50 you get a small soup, salad, a side of fries, rice, pita, and spanakopita, along with a chicken skewer, and a good amount of gyro meat. And it is good. The soup is a lentil soup that is nice, and has a little bit of a smokiness flavor. The salad and sides were good but the gyro meat was absolutely fantastic. It was the right level of greasy and savory. The only disappointment is the chicken, which was fine but kind of bland. When I go back, I’m getting the 8.50 gyro meal which has the same sides minus the chicken skewer and spanakopita

Stopped in with my mom after running errands in San Diego. She has a pretty weird diet, so needs to watch what she eats. She was in the mood for mediterranean food, and we happened to come across Alexi’s. Worked for us! It’s a small hole in the wall that you may miss if you blink. Look for the blue awning out front as it stands out for sure. It was the middle of the afternoon so it wasn’t overly busy, but had a couple working tables when we walked in and throughout our meal. They offer a pretty standard Greek fare including gyros, falafel, mussaka, spanikopeta, and kabobs. The lunch deal is a pretty good way to go. For $ 5.75 you get a good sized gyro, fries and a drink. We both opted for the gyro plate and were very satisfied. The plate itself had a good portion of gyro meat, fries, rice and was served with pita and tzatziki sauce. Also served with a fresh green salad. The salad itself had romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes and feta cheese. All the veggies were freshly sliced. The feta came in one big block in the middle of the salad. Pretty funny since I would have expected it to come crumbled. The gyro meat was nicely seasoned. Fries were a bit greasy for me and the rice a bit bland. However, the tzatziki sauce was very flavorful and added a nice bite when added to the gyro on a slice of pita. Service was friendly and quick. FYI… They don’t take American Express. Go ahead and leave home without it if you plan on heading to Alexi’s. Keep on Unilocal’n!

This place is the bomb! Delicious, fresh Greek food at affordable prices. Ordered the lunch special falafel sandwich with side salad and a coke for only $ 5.75, cant beat that price. My falafel was cooked to perfection crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. Seasoning was also done perfectly. Totally recommend this place!
