Adams Avenue Unplugged: miles of GREATFREE Music, some art, and lots of creativity. Food and drinks available at bars & restaurants, with some booths in each of the neighborhoods the festival extends to: Kensington, Normal Heights, North Park, University Heights. From east of I-15 past the 805(both sides) to Park Blvd., San Diego, CA. Hundreds of bands/musicians play. All free(1 exception this year: Sat. night)!! Art is available to view & purchase along the way, with a free Trolleys to take you the 5 mile stretch. Nice venue situation as you can be inside most of the time. One or two outside stages, which get lots of attendance. Arrive early for well known, national, popular bands. Parking can be difficult. But this year: 2016 Saturday was great due to short rain in morning. Only walked ½ block to venue I wanted to see! Most years a 2 to 4 block walk. Bikes welcome, buses service area! This year had lots of young families. Some with strollers. Lots of dogs too. Families & Friends really enjoying themselves. Lots of great smelling food, and almost every hand had a drink in it. 100’s of places to get food & drink. Prices vary so you might need to shop around to match your budget. Afghanistan to Vegetarian and all the types in between for food available. Venues include Barber Shops to Old Church. 30 to 300+. Very interesting, with almost a personal performance feeling at some places. Some loud with amplification like an arena concert to straight acoustical settings. Trolley makes it easy to get to the different venues & neighborhoods. National musicians & bands, to regional and local favorites. Acoustic, blues, classic, country, Jazz, reggae, rock, rock-a-billy, pop. Not much hip-hop, rap, or heavy metal, but I have seen all these styles previously. Make sure to get the Official Program and plan your viewing. Remember some places have very limited capacity so get there early. Sundays are usually a little more relaxed. And if you missed this event/festival then make the next one Adams Avenue Roots Festival later in the year.

Great way to spend a cloudy & windy Saturday in SD. Super down to earth vibe, many live venues and artists strumming and singing away. Some damn good talent too. Good bites everywhere. Groovy bars and people-buzz. All in all, ‘quintessential’ San Diego neighborhood scene at its best. Nil pretentiousness, all cool. Catch it mañana Sunday 26⁄4 if you were not able to swing by today //well worth it.

This event happens every year around April and it never disappoints. Well, i had a tiny disappointment with Cantina Mayahuel closed when they were suppose to be opened but regardless of the mix up — the talented musicians i heard and met were wonderful. my favorite was Jaynes gastropub. There was a kickstarter campaign this year and it was successful! Drink and food specials all weekend on Adams, this event is not to be missed.
