Very friendly! great place! I went here when the engine check light was on. On My first trip to san diego. And the stuff did a very fast check and explain it very carefully to me. it help me a lot! and them just did it for free!

Charged $ 550 for one set of break pads and rotors and they’re awful. Loud grinding and squeaking even when not applying breaks. Really embarrassing to drive through parking lots now.

Best place in downtown. Mike is awesome and honest. They don’t try to talk you into fixing stuff which isn’t broken! Highly recommended!

This review is long overdue but after my husband got into a terrible accident while sitting at a light earlier this year, the folks at A Street Auto went above and beyond to get our Jeep back into service. After making a few calls around San Diego, I was getting a lot of «well, we’re only going to do what the insurance company tells us to…» — not @ A Street. They worked with our insurance company but our insurance company did not dictate what repairs were done. A Street even got second opinions to ensure we wouldn’t have issues down the road with our vehicle. Throughout the entire process they were transparent about what our vehicle needed and how long it would take. I would recommend this shop to anyone in San Diego.

This is my best experience with any car repair place ever! I have an ’04 BMW, high miles now, and last Summer had a few major repairs. They were awesome! As a girl, auto places can be intimidating and they were so reassuring, talked to my dad in a whole other city 3 hours away to explain the repairs and estimate and even found a way to get some of the parts I needed cheaper. They also checked my whole car and gave a list of what needed to be done soon, later and much later so I knew what to budget for and do preventative maintenance. They are so knowledgable with my car and do not talk down to me and don’t get exasperated explaining the repairs to me and how it all works as I know zero about cars and BMW’s are confusing lol ! They just finished another repair and got me new tires and the price was reasonable. They are fast (longest they had my car was 3 days) you can schedule an appointment to make sure you get a time frame for the work to be finished. I live downtown so I can walk home and walk back to get my car. They are always busy and have been open for a long time with tons of returning customers. This is the only place I will trust with my car from oil changes, tires to big repairs. Honest, straightforward, fast and repaired properly with no bullsh*t. Mike and Scott rock!

These guys just saved me from an unnecessary $ 400 repair another shop tried to push on me. Honest, friendly and not looking to take advantage of anyone. I won’t be going anywhere else!

After looking around all morning for a shop that could repair my car without breaking the bank, I found A Street Auto, and let me tell you, hands down the best service, quality and professionalism around. Scott’s team was able to find the problem and didnt have me buy other stuff that was unnecessary. Definitely made this place as my go to spot for auto service and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thumbs up!

I discovered A Street Auto this year and I am so happy to have found them! I’ve been to a number of mechanics over the years and have always had the uncomfortable feeling that I suppose most people who know very little about cars get when dealing with mechanics… are they being honest with me? Can I trust them? Am I being over charged? My experiences with A Street Auto have relieved me of any and all discomfort. When I first brought my car to A Street it needed quite a bit of work. It’s a Lexus SC430, over 10 years old but very low milage. They looked over the car and gave me an estimate for repairs which, given the amount of work, seemed reasonable. After the service the car ran beautifully for several months but one day it started stalling out on me. I brought it in, thinking, here we go, this is going to cost me a several hundred at least. I told them to give me an oil change too while they were fixing it. They called me that day and said it was too soon for an oil change and there was no charge for fixing the car, it was just a lose wire. Yesterday I was back getting my antennae replaced and an oil change. I got a quote from MIke and said fine, do the work. Mike called me a few hours later and said they were able to repair the antennae without taking it out so the labor cost was for a half hour instead of the hour and a half originally quoted. In all of my experience dealing with car mechanics I’ve never had them reduce the price when I came to pay. A Street Auto is the exception to the rule. They are professional, friendly and the do excellent work. I highly recommend them to anyone, especially to people like me who really know nothing about car repairs. These guys are wonderful! I will be taking my car to them forever, unless I move.

I have stopped going to A Street Auto for no negative reason, only because I moved from downtown to North Park. But I don’t comment on car places until I know our business is finished and now it is, so here is my complete experience.
As point of reference: A Steet Auto serviced first my 1999 Saab 9 – 5 and later my 2001 Toyota Camry.
The GOOD: Excellent customer service. Best thing they ever did for me was take the deep dent out of my back bumper without my asking and not charging me. They were always straight up about how long work would take and when they went long gave me a loaner. When my Saab finally died, they helped me get a good price for it as a junker.
The front desk guy is personable, explains what’s wrong and can be chatty if you want to talk. Not all the employees are as pleasant, but none are unprofessional.
The AMBIGUOUS: This week I used a North Park mechanic to replace the brakes and calipers. I had the brakes redone at A Street Auto about a year ago. Friends told me that was too soon, that sometimes mechanics will not replace every part so brakes wear down faster. But the new place said the calipers looked original (100K+ miles later), though the rear brake pads maybe weren’t replaced as effectively as they could’ve been but he couldn’t say for sure (I’m being deliberately obscure in what i say here). I remember one other mistake they made early in our business dealings, but they took it back immediately and fixed it and didn’t charge me. That’s the extent of my quality concerns after three years of using them.
$$$$: The new North Park place I went to did more on my brakes than A Street Auto, butt it cost $ 200 less. That said, A Street Auto was less than the place I went to previously after moving to San Diego (caveat, it was a specialty mechanic for Scandinavian cars; I had a Saab).
OVERALL: A reliable mechanic is as good to find as a skilled and reputable doctor. A Street Auto knows what they’re doing and they act like professionals. My limited experience suggests they are slightly more pricey than competition, but I would never suggest they didn’t earn it; certainly I am not alone because the place is always full and busy. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, but I’ll give the tie to the runner.

This is one of the most professional shops I’ve seen! I’ve had to try several shops in the past couple of years for my Dodge truck and this is one of the most trustworthy out there! Scott, the owner is a fantastic guy, I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Watch out for this shop they charge more then double what the job is suppose to be they take advantage of people who don’t know about cars. I took my vehicle to Griffins Auto Repair right up the street right after, i was shocked at how much cheaper they quoted me and all the technicians are ASE Certified as well. Not to mention I seen the techs in the back of the shop smoking pot

Our car had a dire transmission problem, and we feared the worst. We called ahead on a Saturday and limped it over. The mechanic kindly ran tests and gave us the info to look into things ourselves before we committed to repairs. Sure enough, it was beyond our capabilities, so we brought the car back. They were transparent about the repair process and their estimate was not different from the end quote. They actually finished it faster than they originally said.
What we appreciated most was the demeanor of all the guys who worked there. Everyone was calm, friendly, conversational, and forthright about their work. It would be overstating things a bit to say, «we can’t wait to be back!» But if we have to go to a mechanic, we would go here again for sure.

The owner, Scott did a great job on my car. His knowledge, staff, and being a down to earth guy made me fee really comfortable to do business with him for the first time. It is hard to find an honest and fair mechanic that operates a business efficiently. As a result, the shop is always busy! Thus, that was the thing that sealed the deal for me to let him work on my car.
In the end, my car is back to great shape and there is no other person I am going to take my car to going forward.
I highly, highly recommend him!

I popped by A Street on a Saturday morning, right after my car arrived in San Diego from FL (via an auto shipper) because the tire light indicator was on. They put air in my tires and that thankfully solved the problem. I opted to have my car detailed here the next week and they did a great job. The owner and his crew (some of which are his sons) are very nice, courteous, respectful, and thorough… Highly recommend them!

I HIGHLY recommend A Street Auto!
As a female, auto repair shops tend to take advantage of that, however, A Street Auto did the complete OPPOSITE! They told me why and how they were doing the repair and also saved me money! They are honest, hard-​working people. I will never use anyone else!

Willing to help us get our car in for service with some vague explanation of what sound it was making and my un-​educated estimate of what the problem might be!
Once in, they found out the problem and fixed us up right quick. The part was retreived from a local dealer, and the labor and parts fees were very reasonable.
They even gave us a full explanation of what the issue was and a drawing of how it all went together.
If the car has any more issues, i’ll definitely be back!
