I love this restaurant over all. The food and drinks are unique and delicious. The wait staff is very friendly and welcoming. My family and friends had an amazing time.

Super great atmosphere and yummy whiskey scotch and bourbon flights! Go for cocktails at night and eat a piece of their cake with it or go for brunch and have craft cocktails:) make sure to make reservations though.

Well, it took me forever to get here, but I FINALLY made it to Whiskey Cake! Yay!(And damn, I feel like this place hasn’t been open that long but already has 500 reviews? Wow! It is that good.) My husband and I visited on a Saturday night with a large party of 11, but we made reservations in advance and so when we got there at 5:30, we were seated right away. I recommend making reservations based on the number of people we saw waiting around at the bar and front area. Our server was pretty on top of things for the most part throughout the evening, with only a few drinks that took awhile to arrive… and she comped those which was super nice of her. Although I don’t drink whiskey, they had a really large drink menu filled with lots of craft beers and other cocktails that sounded good. I stuck with beer, which ranged in price from $ 6 — $ 8. Not cheap, but not too terrible. Everything on the menu sounds fantastic. I ordered the Super Freekah salad, which was large and filling and delicious! I forgot to order the dressing on the side, so it was a bit overwhelming, but still super good. I can’t remember what everyone else ordered, but everyone seemed pretty happy with their meals. And of course, we had to order the whiskey cake. It was SOGOOD. I mean, you can’t go wrong with a dessert, right? I think our table alone ordered like 6 or 7 servings. Haha… we definitely should’ve shared more. :) But whatevs, when you’re at Whiskey Cake, you do what you want.

Let’s begin with the build your own Bloody Mary bar. It’s a brunch spot must for me, and Whiskey Cake’s is awesome! I can add all the bacon I want! I’ve gotten several different menu items throughout my many visits and nothing has disappointed. The Ramen comes with an abundant amount of meat, almost too abundant for me, but it is an unexpected surprise. Hands down must get item for me is the Goat Cheese Fondue. It is sooooooooo delicious! I get it every time I go, sometimes I wouldn’t mind just ordering 2 of those and having it as my main course. Now for the dessert, they were featuring a new one last week(6÷15÷16) called Scratch Cheesecake, combining banana and cheesecake… pure heaven!

The location on Unilocal is very inaccurate, the restaurant is in the la Cantera shops. Food is wonderful and fresh, great alcoholic and non alcoholic drink menu.

We went here for the Sunday brunch and my whole family loved it. Below are highlights: 1. Fried Green Tomatoes — Yummy, not as crispy as it was not covered in a cornmeal batter, but still tasty 2. Deviled Eggs — delicious 3. Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes — the group’s favorite — both children and adults — it was like eating a cake 4. Super Freekah Salad — super yummy 5. Pork Egg and Grits breakfast — tomatillo sauce tied everything together so nicely 6. Fresh juice concoctions — tastes fresh and light The atmosphere is really nice and the décor is lovely. The kids enjoyed the wicker chair swings near the fireplace. Great spot… will return. Service was excellent. Restaurant got packed and had a 1.5 hour wait after we left around 1:30 pm.

So we’re in Texas visiting my son on his graduation from Basic Training and his TI told us about this place. Totally the bomb! We owe her one now. If you are in San Antonio, you need to try this place. Had the tomato bisque soup and fried green tomatoes and both were really good. Followed that up with the Grilled Texas Striped Bass with the Poblano Cheesy Grits… great choice! The real star of the show however is the namesake of the place… the Whiskey Cake. I’m not much for dessert, but this is maybe the best cake I’ve ever had. The whipped cream was ridiculously good and the sauces made the whole thing come together. My wife and son don’t even like pecans and they absolutely loved this. Do yourself a favor and try this place!

Our first waiter that sat us down was a miserable case of sadness. He had no energy & was just not pleasant. Perhaps it was because it was the end of his shift? He switxhed out with a much more pleasant waitress! Lucky us! We ordered a guava gimlet drink… it consists of vodka, guava, pineapple, lime & simple syrup. This drink is a mist have of you want to try one of their drink concoctions! Unfortunately, that’s the only thing I had. They have a decent happy hour selection, so I would recommend trying that out prior to having their full dinner service if you are a first-timer. I think you will enjoy your experience though…

My husband and I went for brunch and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Our server Tim was very knowledgeable about the menu including where the different ingredients came from, and made excellent recommendations. He also was personable and never made us feel rushed. In regards to the ambiance it was really well designed. Primarily using reclaimed materials, the decorations are creative and the overall feel is very inviting. We started out with the deviled eggs, made primarily out of local ingredients. Very well balanced and delicious. I had the OMG burger, which was perfectly cooked and one of the best burgers I have ever had. My husband had the French toast, which was rich and a great blend of savory and sweet. They have a good variety of cocktails. I had a mimosa with fresh squeezed orange juice and he had a Bloody Mary from the make it yourself Bloody Mary bar. We will most definitely be back.

Whiskey Cake is a great addition to La Cantera. I really enjoyed my experience there and I look forward to going again because I’ve heard so many good things about their brunch. I’m not sure what the wait usually is on a regular weekend night but I made the mistake of going when a bunch of teenagers were there for prom. I don’t keep up with these things so I had no idea. The good thing is they take your number and text you when your table is ready. I was able to go walk around and visit other places to get a drink and look around while we waited, which made the wait time(roughly an hour) go by really fast. The server was really nice and made an effort to get to know us. He also gave great drink recommendations when I have a hard time picking something. I had the roasted corn and squash soup and a arugula beet salad, and really enjoyed it. The place is also super cool inside! I love the design and the light fixtures. I really like the farm to table concept and love that San Antonio keeps getting more and more places like this.

Nice décor and atmosphere. Though the hostesses gave me a snooty look for taking photos of the plants in the entrance. We weren’t very hungry so my boyfriend order the Thai Cashew Pork Baguette and soup of the day(Tomato Basil) combo. We were blown away by the soup. It was cream based and it tasted like someone melted a grilled cheese sandwich in the soup in the best way. I ordered a Thai Barbecue Duck Wings Appetizer with a side of Squash and Brussel Sprouts. The veggies were well prepared and the wings were phenomenal. They had a pretty good kick to them and were so tender they practically fell off the bone as I ate it. They honestly did not need the dipping sauce that came with them. I definitely plan on coming back to Whiskey cake this summer to try the OMG burger and the ramen along with the whiskey cake for dessert.

Nice atmosphere, kind of loud but gives you that everyone is having a good time, went on a Saturday and it took about 45 minutes to be seated, they notify you via text so you can shop while you wait. We had deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes for appetizers they were great. My family ordered the brisket burger which was good. I ordered the ramen noodles with a quail egg. The disappointing part was the egg was completely raw. Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be or if the soup is supposed to cook it but I did not like that at all. Good thing I filled up on appetizers. Next time I’ll try something else.

I have honestly never had a bad meal a whiskey cake. I have been here for both lunch and brunch so I will review both of those. Brunch: 1. Farmers Breakfast: I have had this twice now, and it hits the spot every time. Two sunny side up eggs, homestyle potato hash on the side, two fluffy and buttery cheddar jalapeño biscuits(perfect to dip into the egg yolk in my opinion), two slices of sweet and spicy thick cut cherry wood bacon(the spice gives it an amazing kick), with a light and refreshing little salad with grape tomatoes. It is the ideal breakfast, you cannot go wrong with it if you are looking for simple and filling with a variety of flavors. The only criticism I can give this is that I wish they gave more of the hash on the side, mostly because I’m obsessed with any sort of potatoes and always want more. 2. French Toast Monte Cristo: Ordered this without the shaved smoke ham. Without exaggeration, this is the best french toast I have ever had in my life. I usually do not have much of a sweet tooth, but the mascarpone cheese paired with the raspberry balsamic preserves is a match made in heaven. I’m not sure where the ham would fit into all of this, so order at your own discretion, but the rest of the dish is phenomenal. Lunch: 1. Rotisserie Farm bird: Half of a roasted garlic chicken with mustard greens, carrots, and cauliflower on the side. Shared this with a friend and there was still plenty to go around. Chicken was fresh, moist(I know, I hate that word too), and perfectly seasoned. The greens on the side were cooked perfectly and crispy, I hate when the side veggies get too soggy. 2. Whiskey Cake: This was my first time having any sort of whiskey cake ever and I was a little hesitant at first about the flavor, but I was pleasantly surprised! They have mastered the perfect balance between dessert and alcohol. Again, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so the bourbon flavor was welcome, but not overpowering to where it felt like I was throwing back shots. Also, the whipped cream on the side is a great cake topper. I also shared this with a friend, so if you’re not a huge dessert person and just want to try this, I suggest splitting! P. S. Service is fantastic and I have never had to wait to be seated, even at peak brunch hour on Saturday morning. As for price, It is not the cheapest place, can range from 10– 30 bucks for entrée; however I think the food, atmosphere, and service is worth it.

What I’m Reviewing: Brunch What I Ordered: Farmer’s Breakfast This is a great place in the La Cantera area to catch brunch with people! There are many good selections considering that this restaurant is a chain(there’s another in Dallas). The décor inside is very pleasant and the restaurant is farm to table. Waiting Time: My friends and I showed up Saturday around 11AM and there was barely any wait time. We waited for probably 5 minutes before they seated us! I heard the wait is crazier at night times. Food: You can order anything off their lunch menu it seems like during their brunch as well! But since I’m a brunch lover, I’m always gonna go for the brunch selections. I ordered the Farmer’s Breakfast — it comes with two sunny side up eggs, herb potato hash, peppered bacon, and biscuits. The meal was overall delicious! The bacon was intense in its flavoring — sweet at the first bite and then a lingering spicy feeling afterwards. The greens and cherry tomatoes was a great, delightful pairing with the rest of the food. My only disappointment was that there was a very small serving of potatoes(which is usually my favorite part of breakfast). My other friend got the French Toast which was also very delicious with the berries and mascarpone. Overall: I’ll be coming back for sure! Next time I want to try the Pork, Egg and Grits and also the Chicken and Waffles

Another fantastic lunch here at the Whisky Cake! Today’s lunch has got to be my absolute favorite. I did the soup and and sand which combo. WOW is all I can say. My sandwich was the pork baguette with the chili verde soup. My hubby ordered the basic burger with fresh jalapeños… Let’s not forget the drinks… I had a mojito and my hubby the whisky sour. Both drinks were amazing. What a fun atmosphere. Great place for a night out with your girls, friends, date night… The Whisky cake is good for any occasion. They haves a brunch menu but, I’ve never had it… That’ll be next. We did finish off with the Whiskey Cake dessert… I’m fat and happy and loving every minute of it. The staff is super friendly. The kitchen staff ROCKS! The drinks were on the mark. Love the bartenders. We were lucky to have Jacqueline for our waitress she was the best! Manager Tom super friendly.

Sat at the bar and bartender Chelsea took care of us! Fun atmosphere! Good for any size group, couples, individuals, and families. Was craving a burger and this was the place to get one. Shared a bucket of parm fries. Their house chips that come with the burgers were actual not very hot and were greasy. Needs a few bites of something sweet and Chelsea recommended a scoop of local made vanilla ice cream from Brindles. It was perfect! Going back as soon as possible! Update January 2016: sadly they don’t have ice cream anymore.

I felt like there was a lot of hype for this restaurant that wasn’t nearly close to my expectations. The food tastes good, but the restaurant seems more of a chain wholesome/farm to table as opposed to a place really caring for the planet and your health. It felt very urban farm style, if that makes any sense. It would be a cool place for a date or girl’s night out. The inside is very cozy with tables, Edison lights, and a rustic/farm feel. The server didn’t seem too interested in giving us a full explanation of the menu and items, although it was busy on a Sunday night. We had about a five minute wait. The best food I enjoyed was the edamame hummus. A fusion of both that I enjoyed immensely. I recommend it for anyone who likes hummus or edamame. A perfect marriage! I opted for a Quinoa salad, my husband the pork brisket, and a fish item for my friend. The salad was flavorful, fresh, and different. However, the prices were a bit more than I would expect for the portion and flavor. The salad had a few shrimp? Quinoa, and a mix of nuts and other interesting ingredients. It was really well crafted. However, it was also around $ 15 or so. Given the location I could understand, but the presentation really wasn’t that amazing to warrant the high prices on the food items. Farm and locally sourced is great, but I’m not sure how local quinoa and pine nuts you can get. And… I know shrimp can only be so local. ;) The fish my friend had was rather small and didn’t taste that amazing. The pork brisket was rather dry being that it was tenderloin cut brisket style. The cheese grits under it was good, but not absolutely amazing. The best item was the dessert, the whiskey cake. Warm, melting, sweet, and full of delicious nuts. I recommend it over the food. Overall, I think it’s got a great atmosphere and some foodies may enjoy the farm to table. The whiskey and drinks list is very long. I am willing to give this restaurant another try and maybe have the delicious super tall burger they have to offer.

I spent half time here from shopping at The Shops of La Cantera; my half time is not the usual«foot ball» half time, it is shopping half time. I don’t know if it is a blessing or a curse that I know where Whiskey Cake is. I sat at the bar and sipped an old fashioned with their house rye; Old Overholt. This is an American Rye Whiskey that is distilled in Clermont, Kentucky. I love that the«ICE» is back; block ice, the only way to sip an Old Fashioned. Outstanding! I had my staple; fried green tomatoes and I ordered their roasted butternut squash and Brussels sprouts. Anytime here is a busy time so try and make a reservation; tip, they do not take reservations prior to 6:30PM. I was impressed that Andrea, my barmaid, remembered me being here with my husband; she even remembered where we sat the Saturday before. Okay for all of you thinking that I frequent the bar, you are mistaken. That is one thing that I love about this place is that if you can’t get a reservation, you can usually have a drink and dinner at the bar. They don’t make you feel like you are out of place or just taking up space. The lunch/dinner menus are brought to you immediately. Great service, great food as always, thanks Andrea!
