We have loved this place in the past– great food, small and intimate, bring-your-own-bottle. This most recent time, however, was unfortunately a different story. We arrived just after six p.m., ordered, and waited. And waited. For an hour. Each time we checked on the status of our food, the server said«it was being made.» We waited for an hour, during which time more than five tables that were seated after us were served and were finishing up their meals by the time we saw ours. The management did not comp anything, just said sorry several times. Will not return for a while. Too bad, the food is usually on point.

Don’t let the location and exterior scare you away from this SA gem. The food is amazing and the service is great. They don’t charge a cork fee on your bottles of wine. The place is small but the portions are large.

I went to Thai Dee with co-workers for lunch and it was good, but didn’t blow my socks off like I was hoping it would. I try the Pad Kee Mow at every Thai restaurant I visit and the«Kee Mow» here was good, but not amazing. I did taste my co-worker’s Pad See Ew and it was one of the best I’ve ever had though! The atmosphere is cozy and nice, despite the outer appearance of the building. As for spiciness, they only had no spice, medium and hot. We asked for something along mild lines and he said ok, but it came out with absolutely no spice. I’d like to go back and try other dishes! Then I might give it more stars!

Three of us came in for lunch on a Friday around 1 pm. The area looks sketchy, but these are my favorite kind of spots. We waited about 15 mins for a table since the placed was packed — but this is a good sign right? The food was amazing, the portions are huge, and the price is just right. Food + $: We ordered off the lunch special menu where all of the items are $ 8.99 and include the soup, 2 spring rolls, steamed rice, and your choice of entrée. I got the chicken red curry, and it was the best I’ve ever had! The spice level was perfect for me, but I tend to like my food hotter than most. The portions are huge, and you will notice many people asking for to-go containers. Ambiance: This place has a cozy feel and is super laid back. It gets a little loud, but this is because ever table is filled. The staff is friendly and comes around just enough. The only weird thing is a sign on the front door stating no sleeveless shirts, jerseys or muscle shirts allowed for men; as hot as San Antonio gets, this seems silly.

This place is a gem! The area can be off putting but seriously delicious! I had their tom Kah(coconut milk type soup) and with the pad Thai! Delicious and spicy just like I love my food. My girlfriend had one of the currys and she loved it too. Only bad thing is, it was extremely loud the night we went. Lots of people, but I don’t blame them. This place is amazing and good price for all the food.

Huge portions, and very fast service for lunch! Upon sitting down, you are immediately served a soup. The spicy noodles were ok, but had lots of protein. I would come back, but still searching for my favorite Thai in San Antonio!

Oh my god. We just tried this for the first time today after being recommended this place by several different people, and no lie it’s probably my new favorite restaurant. Upon walking in we were greeted by Nick, and saw a few friends of ours already dining. Lol. We had the Moo Ping which was seriously the best thing ever! It had so much flavor and came with a dipping oil that complemented it very well. We also had the Tom Kha which is a soup that had mushroom and chicken in a delicious and interesting broth. We also has the Thai Dee Light and the Spicy Noodles. Everything was beyond exceptional and authentic. I loved everything about this place! Service was also on point. You felt as if you were visiting their home as close friends. Loved it!

What’s not to like. Large portions. Friendly and family owned. BYOB. While in San Antonio recently we had lunch there and mentioned this to basically everyone I met they knew and loved Thai Dee. «What did you do for lunch?» «We had Thai» «Oh, did you go to Thai Dee?» So, it’s apparently the place for Thai in San Antonio. The wings are saucy and spicy. Get those to start. That said, portions are big for their entrees.

Only dropped in or a take out order, service was quick and helpful. Now I’m on crutches for a few more weeks and I’m pretty used to doors being held for me. But when I got my order a server went above and beyond and brought my food to my vehicle across the parking lot. Now that’s service, I’ll definitely be coming back.

It doesn’t look that great from the outside, but food is very decent, and it’s reasonably priced. You have a winner here. There are so many Thai restaurants to choose from, but I like this little restaurant when visiting San Antonio.

I think they have a new water filter — water is delicious. Prompt courteous service. There is a screaming kid but whatevs… Parent is putting rice where the noise was coming from. The wait for the main entrée — green curry noodle– was just a bit longer than normal but the dish was very aesthetically pleasing upon arrival. I am a water buffalo of sorts and I had to prompt the help for a refill. It is lunch rush hour but still a spicy meal needs an adequate beverage. The entrée was a perfect balance of quantity and quality… With quality taking a back seat to no-one. The only issue was my cousins Thai coffee — it was a bit thick in consistency… She had to add water. All in all a good eat.

Very generous portions and top-notch service! I went to dinner here with a group of 7 on Monday evening and we chose the restaurant based on Unilocal reviews. The restaurant is somewhat hidden next to a gas station and has been the unfortunate victim of graffiti artists, but as soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly and our server was amazing! She answered all of our questions about the menu and made recommendations as well. The Thai iced tea was perfect! For appetizers we ordered the vegetable spring rolls, pot stickers and shrimp pancake. I liked the spring rolls the best. Our group ordered moo ping(just like Filipino bbq on a stick!!), Thai Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Tofu(so much tofu!!!), Kao Soi, Beef Salad and Panang Curry(better the next day). In my opinion the food was good and I was amazed at how much food they give you. There are three Thai restaurants that are much closer to me and none of them give you portions this big for the same price. Also, I have to say that the service at this restaurant was incredible. We also ordered to-go food and the staff boxed up our leftovers and included our to-go as well. I’m a fan and will be coming back for sure!

Reviewing: Dinner What We Ordered: Pad Khee Mao, Nam Tok, Thai Teas(we recommend all!) So I am super picky when it comes to Asian food, especially Thai food since I’ve had so many bad dishes at many restaurants. I heard many good things about Thai Dee and was so excited to try it, especially upon arriving and finding the restaurant packed on a week night! Not even a weekend night. And Thai Dee meet all of my expectations! First of all the décor is typical of any Thai restaurant with paintings of the country and Buddha statues in different areas. The staff is very friendly and accommodating! FOOD: The PADKHEEMAO is definitely some of the best I’ve had in SA. The sauce was a wonderful mix of spicy, soy sauce, fish sauce, and garlic and the meat was very tender and juicy. Also, they didn’t skimp on the noodles and meat which is a plus! One of my pet peeves at Asian restaurants is when the dish comes out and it’s ¾ vegetables and ¼ noodles+meat. The NAMTOK is a beef-based salad that I highly recommend because the taste is incredibly refreshing! You can taste the mint leaves, lime juice, and fish sauce combination. So good! DRINKS: THAITEAS were on point! The perfect balance of tea to sweetness ratio — approve! DATEIDEA: This place is also BYOB so whether it’s a friend date or a real date, it’s a cool place to come share some thai food and pop open a bottle of wine! Will definitely be back to do that!

I’m half Thai and grew up with home cooked Thai food all my life, so I feel pretty confident when I say Thai Dee is the best Thai restaurant I’ve been to in SA, HANDS. DOWN. I’ve been here a couple times during lunch, and every time I’m just craving for more(my mom’s even getting jealous). One of my favorite Thai dishes is green curry, and Thai Dee does it exceptionally well. I’ve only had that and their larb moo(pork), another one of my favorite dishes, and that too was phenomenal, and the portion was so big I was able to bring some home. As for the establishment itself, walking into Thai Dee I saw decorations that reminded me of my grandparents house growing up, and the wooden walls deff hit home for me, call it a wave of happy nostalgia. The servers working are always extremely nice and friendly, I have absolutely no complaint there. Every time I visit, Thai Dee is PACKED, and for good reason. Great food, great service, both of which just make you want to come back for more.

This place was delicious and the service was exceptional! They have fried tofu and you can order the thai fried rice without egg. The spring rolls are not vegan– they contain egg. My girlfriend thought the medium spice level was spot on. Really delicious thai food!

The pad see ewe here is phenomenal! I have dreams of eating this dish over and over again. The noodles and buttery. I’ve had it once with beef and another time with chicken. Can’t go wrong with either. It also comes with soup and 2 egg rolls. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The staff is super friendly and the lunch menu is great. It does get crowded during lunch hour, so keep that in mind. The location isn’t the best and there’s some construction, but this place has the best authentic Thai food that I’ve tried in San Antonio.

Very disappointed with the results of this 4.5 star 200 plus review restaurant. I took a couple of my peers to this place so we can try for first time. Soup served to start was a beef soup with little flavor. The thing that really killed this for me was the warm temperature of the soup. Many Thai restaurants I have been to serve better flavored hot fresh soup. I Ordered the Pad Thai combination plate and it did arrive hot, however the chicken, beef, and shrimp tasted cold and dry as if they pre cooked and added at last second. Shrimp was hard and just about cold. We order med hot and heat was just mild. We asked for hot oil and waiter forgot to bring. Overall I ate half my plate and I usually finish my meals. I frequently go to Bangkok Cuisine on Pat Booker and prefered that place alot more. Don’t think I will try again

This place is a total gem! There’s a lot of construction outside and the exterior doesn’t look so great but the inside is typical Thai decorations but not overly done. I had lunch with a friend and for 8.50 I had the best panang curry chicken, 2 delicious spring rolls with rice and a lunch portion soup. I spent $ 11 total on lunch and I was STUFFED and it was so delicious! The servers are all so incredibly friendly and are on the ball, we never asked or needed anything because they really took care of us. Thai Dee is my new fav!

This place is terrible for the 4.5 star rating on Unilocal!I live in Austin where we have good Thai restaurants so since this place got over 200 reviews and a rating of 4.5 star, I was hoping this would be a decent Thai restaurant as I didn’t have high hopes for good Thai food in San Antonio. However, this place is far beyond being nearly as average good as the Thai food trucks in Austin where those are considered decent Thai. First, this place looked so shady on the outside. The place was in a run down building. When you walk in, the place was old and small. Service was ok but it will take a long time from the time you order and get your food. It took us about 30 mins to get our food. Second, let’s talk about the food quality. It’s terrible. We paid $ 13 for a small bowl of shrimp tom yum soup. The soup came out cold and it was literally a bowl of sugar soup and with lime juice it in. It was so terribly sweet that my dad could even finish it. Then we ordered a shrimp pad see eww and a tofu pad kee Mao. Both also came out barely warm enough as if they just heat the food up in the microwave and served them! Also, both dishes used this sort of fettuccine noodle instead of the traditional wide rice noodle. Let’s talk flavor, the pad kee Mao was tasteless and very spicy. The pad see eww was a bit better. We also ordered this crunchy fried pork rib dishes that was probably the best of the night out of all 4 dishes. Overall, this was below average Thai restaurant for food quality and service. If you look at the Unilocal reviews, beware that the reviewers are not Asians that know what authentic good Thai food is so if you are Asian and used to eating good authentic Thai food, don’t go here or you’ll be disappointed like us.

The look from the outside would not tell you much of the inside. It’s located on pretty«questionable» area. Yet, when you get inside, it’s a total different atmosphere. The service was surprisingly very good. The foods were exceptional. We ordered Pathai(tasted well, lightly spiced yet pleasant to taste buds), shrimp fried rice(my toddler loved it), chicken rice soup(it was okay), and Thai Dee curry(VERYRECOMMENDED).

Let me preface this by saying the first meal I have an any new city is always Thai. That being said, I have a pretty good grasp on the most common Thai dishes. I had the Tom Kha soup and the Kee Mao. The Tom Kha = awesome! I got mine without mushrooms, no meat, extra vegetables. It was delightful. I wish I would’ve gotten another bowl of it instead of my noodle dish. After the soup being so delicious, I had high expectations for the Kee Mao. Unfortunately, those expectations lead me astray. …The serving was plentiful, both the protein and vegetables mixed in were plentiful, but in general the sauce lacked real flavor. The heat level was just right, which I do commend them on; however, this dish alone was worthy of only three stars. I decided to give them four stars because the service was good, the soup was wonderful, and I have hopes that other dishes might be better since the soup was so good. Perhaps it was just an off-day. I’m not sure.

I am a regular at Bangkok54 which I believe is as good as Thai cuisine gets in San Antonio. Thai Dee is quite good. The Pad Thai was surprisingly sweet and did not taste anything like what I expect Pad Thai to taste like. Pad Woodsen was good. Tom Yum soup is very nice, again a definite sweet flavor going on here. Everything I tasted was pleasant but not amazing.

Was in the area and my friend wanted Thai so we went. I’ll be honest — the burglar bars in the nearby shops made me question our safety but hey, sometimes these sketchy places have the best food. Service was prompt. We ordered crispy fried tofu. It came with a sweet sauce. I prefer my fried tofu dipped in soy sauce but the sweet and spicy sauce was not too bad. The tofu was boring though… I’m pretty sure they just cut up big blocks of tofu and fry them. It is an easy appetizer. I like tofu stuffed with mushrooms or lemongrass to jazz them up a little. For our entrees we got the 3 flavor fish and pumpkin curry with chicken. The pumpkin curry was delicious! If not for that curry I would have given this place 3 stars. I loved the sweetness of the squash and the flavorful and spicy curry broth. It paired incredibly well with the steamed rice that came with the dish. The chicken was plain and nothing to write home about but I didn’t have high expectations for it to begin with. But, after reheating the leftovers at home, the chicken soaked in more curry flavor and transformed into tender and flavorful morsels. So good. The 3 flavor fish was good but a little too sweet and not spicy enough. After the pumpkin curry the fried fish paled in comparison. I loved the onions and tomatoes in the dish though. Overall, I had a nice time here. I will definitely come back, especially for the pumpkin curry!

This is my first time having Thai food in San Antonio, so I don’t have a good baseline to judge. However, I was really impressed by Thai Dee. It is a bit out of the way and in a pretty random location next to a middle school. But when you walk in, you can tell that the food is going to be fairly authentic because all of the staff seem to be Thai, and the decorations are something right out of Thailand. I went with a few friends on a Friday night; we didn’t have to wait, but the place was PACKED. There were so many people fit into this tiny restaurant, and it really gave the whole place a lively and bustling atmosphere. As for the staff, they seem to be a little bit shorthanded because there was a bit of a wait between each activity(drink order, food order, food arrival, checks etc.). However, the staff are really nice and you can tell that they do care. As for the food, we split a chicken satay appetizer, and I ordered a chicken pad thai. It was a lot of food! The chicken satay was pretty good; I loved their peanut sauce, but I felt that the chicken ended up being a bit dry. On the other hand, I really enjoyed their pad thai. The noodles were chewy, and it came with plenty of toppings. My only negative would be that it seems like they make their pad thai very, very, very mild compared to how it actually is in Thailand.

I had my favorite Thai meal at Thai Dee and haven’t been able to beat that meal since. A friend told us about this place, so we made it a point to visit before we left San Antonio and it was one of my favorite meals on my road trip. I had Pad See Ew with all the sauces I could get my hands on and my partner had one of the spiciest meals he’s ever had. Tea and spring rolls hit the spot too. The atmosphere was a lot of fun. Small, intimate environment. Wooden panels on the walls with paintings and decorations. Definitely a hole in the wall. Looking at the building from the road, you wouldn’t expect much. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Felt at home and taken care of. BYOB — I recommend going later at night. Nice place to visit when I only had a few days in the city.

Food was delicious, well spiced, fresh and big portion. Came with a group of five and ordered tofu red curry, panang noodles, kee Mao, basil fried rice, shrimp dumplings and crab Rangoon. Every table was full for dinner but service was prompt. Nice ambience inside despite the shady neighborhood and being next to a sketchy corner store. BYOB friendly!

Some of the best food I have had in my life has come from some of the most unassuming locations I have seen. Thai Dee continues this trend and offers diners great Thai food in a location that would scare off most people. The first things that caught my attention were the three cop cars in the parking lot surrounding the corner store with bars on the windows. They were taking up most of the room in the small parking lot so I had to wait for them to move so I could park. Once out of my car, I was very excited for the food when I saw the sign on the door that talked about the dress code. No sleeveless shirts and must wear shoes please. Just like great art coming from quirky artists, great food normally comes from quirky chefs and cooks and this sign seemed extremely quirky when you comprehend the idea of a dress code surrounded by the corner store/cops/barred windows/graffiti. Once inside, I was not disappointed. I went with the pumpkin red curry($ 12) and spring rolls($ 4). My partner went with the panang curry($ 11). She is very picky when it comes to chicken quality and this place passed her test with flying colors. They used quality ingredients that melded together perfectly in the bowl. There was heat but it wasn’t overpowering. The vegetables were fresh and the addition of pumpkin instead of potato or sweet potato was a great idea. The quantity was also very large as we both took home leftovers. Overall, Thai Dee was exactly what I wanted to find in this city. I great Thai food restaurant that is unassuming yet charming. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. They were interacting with their regulars in a way that you would with family members. They served great food in a great little Thai oasis that I would recommend to anyone. I look forward to returning and trying some other meals.

Not my most favorite Thai restaurant that I’ve visited, but it still hit the spot. I had stopped at 3 other restaurants before finding this one and this was the only one open 11am on a Saturday. Pad Thai didn’t have as much flavor as I was hoping, a little bland. A little soy sauce added did the trick. Their veggie spring rolls were yummy. A little greasy from the frying, but their sauce to dip them in was fantastic! I’d love a bottle of that stuff! Atmosphere is nice and the waiter/waitress that I saw were super friendly and didn’t let my water get more than half empty.

A coworker and I were here for lunch. I got the Khee Mao(Spicy Noodles) with beef, and it was a spicy and very flavorful, very delicious dish He got the Chicken Pai Thai, I only had a bite and it is is a bit just too sweat and sour for me. He liked it though. The free soup with lunch is just ok, soy sauce based chicken soup. The service is excellent, their refilled our ice tea and lemonade without us asking for it. The only thing I didn’t like is we waited for about 5 mins for the check and eventually we went to the cashier desk to pay for it. Overall, great food, great service, I will be back again.

Today was my third trip to Thai Dee. I was there for lunch. Why do I keep returning? Flavorful meals, welcoming staff and an affordable price. I’m not much concerned what side of town a place is on or what the exterior looks like. I’m interested in good food for a good price. Normally, I am somewhat of a salt abuser. Give me a big old salt lick block with my food. LOL! With Thai Dee, there’s no need to add salt or pepper. The spices are balanced and the portions are enough to fill up an *ahem* husky man like me. The place itself was clean as usual, the interior makes you feel like you might be in an exotic and wonderful land. What’s also great is how the staff is courteous, prompt and helpful. I’ve read reviews about how this place is the best for thai food in town. I’ve read other articles listing them at least a serious contender. I think they are great! I will be back. Again.

Thai Dee has some very unique qualities about it. For starters it is the BEST Iced Tea I have ever had, I think they make it with honey. The coconut water is insanely good, it taste super fresh & has giant chunks of soft tasty coconut in it as well it is a wonderful treat! The food is wonderful my partner got the three flavor fish dish and it was wonderful! He let me taste a bite. Mine was wonderful too, I got the green curry one time and the Penang curry with pumpkin another time, but both very delicious but a little on the spicy side even at a number two spice level. So take heed.

Craved thai on the way home from the airport and stopped here for food after dropping off a friend. We got pick up. This is only the second place in San Antonio I’ve found authentic pad kee mao(drunken noodles), so I approve! It had a good amount of spice and was soy sauce based like it should be. There was also a good amount of basil. My friend got the pad see ew and it was pretty good also, but not as flavorful as the pad kee mao. The beef was also tender in both dishes and there was a good amount, although I would have preferred to have more noodles rather than beef. Overall, if I’m in the area with friends I would like to try more things on the menu. One con is the restaurant is located in a pretty sketch part of town and is pretty sketch looking on the outside. The inside is pretty cozy though. I don’t think I’d feel safe coming here at night without friends. Overall, pretty solid thai food though.
