This has been my third year in attendance to this special event. This year they bumped it up a notch. It was held at the historic Villa Finale located in the King William district. This year’s lineup of beers was different. There were about 5 local homebrews listed and the others were a combination of local beers and larger Texas brewers. So you still experienced the craftbeer movement. Unfortunately, for someone like me, I’ve tasted most of all the«big» guys. I have mixed feelings towards the venue. While it was very beautiful, it wasn’t very laid back like past homebrew events. There was a woman who was the watchdog of the operation, I’m guessing she was the proprietor of the establishment. I usually drag my bf to these events and he is a smoker. Traditional smoker that is, so no e-cigs or vaps. Understandably you cannot smoke on the premises, preservation of the grounds so we walked right outside of the gates next to the food truck parking. We were then told that it was a considered a public street and could not bring our beers out there. That made us sad, he couldn’t smoke without his beer. I had to stay on the property to hold his beer. Other than that, it was a great event. I learned many tips and techniques from Perdanales Brewing Co. during their demostration. They had to good beers, I love the homebrew ones. They get creative. So SA Cervecerous, if you could… will you go back to the Appliance Warehouse next year. I loved the laid back style over there and also my bf could smoke while enjoying a delicious craft beer.

If you enjoy and appreciate good beer, this is the event for you. I had heard about it on Unilocal and with nothing else to do on that unseasonably warm fall Saturday, my fiancé and I thought well why not? He has been interested in starting some home brewing and the Cerveceros are just that: a group of San Antonio home brewers and home brewing enthusiasts. So we decided to check it out… and it was awesome. After enjoying a late breakfast in the Lavaca area we strolled the short distance to the Appliance Liquidation Outlet(great place, btw) and strolled up to the welcome/check ID/acquire wristband tent of the event. After receiving a wristband we went right up the to the beer serving area where multiple homebrews and locally produced craft beers were listed on a chalkboard with numbers identifying which keg to go to for a tase; and by «taste,» I mean a full cup of beer. That’s right, for FREE you received a wristband that gave you 6 full cups of delicious beer. Of course the craft brews from state breweries were amazing and delicious, but tasting the home brewed stuff was really what it was all about — Pumpkin Ale, IPA; this stuff was original and *good*. On top of the incredible free beer selection, there were booths that educated you on each part of the brewing process, along with live music, a silent auction, and pet adoptions! Beer and puppies to play with? That’s a good day for me. Cerveceros also had educational sessions on homebrewing throughout the afternoon. This event was really a lot more than I expected, in the best way, and I will be back there next year if not at one of their other events before that!

What do you get when you combine Free Beer, Live Music, Food Trucks and Classes on Home Brewing? You get a very cool«Teach a Friend to Home Brew Day» Event put on by the San Antonio Cerveceros. They had educational classes for those wanting to learn, or learn more, about home brewing. Roughly 18 beers avail to sample some being their own home brews. Numerous booths with additional info on home brewing and the equipment and supplies needed. 2 Food Trucks, Wheelie Gourmet and KHill BBQ were there to serve you some awesome food. The best part though? It was all for free(except the food). No parking charges, no charge for entry, no charge for the beer, no charge for the classes. Other than buying your own food, which you would have to do anywhere else anyway, you did not have to pull your wallet out a single time. I cannot wait for the next one next year!

First to review! I live for this! This event is hands-down one of the coolest beer-related events I’ve been to in San Antonio. You guys… it’s FREE. For absolutely nothing, you can enjoy a plethora of homebrew and craft beers, live music, a moon bounce for the kiddos, food trucks available to buy snacks(kefta from Wheelie Gourmet FTW!), and you can even bring your dog! For all you beer nerds, there is also an educational aspect where you can learn homebrew techniques from San Antonio enthusiasts in the SA Cerveceros club. Get info on water, hops, yeast, grain, etc and how each component affects your brew. My favorite homebrew was the pumpkin ale #2. Light, refreshing, with just a subtle hint of pumpkin that didn’t sweeten up the beer too much. I look forward to this day of beer enjoyment becoming more and more popular, so if you missed it this year, bookmark this now! You won’t want to miss it again.
