Service is very important and the easiest thing to do is say«no, we don’t have what your looking for and blow off a potential customer » on a phone call. That is not the case at Spec’s!!! I called asking for a specific type of cigar that is difficult to find in cigar stores. The clerk that took my phone call was kind, courteous and professional. Even though she had no knowledge of the cigar that I was looking for she took the time to go through their computer system and attempt to find out if they had the type of cigar brand that I was looking for. After placing me on hold for a couple of minutes the clerk came back on the phone and proceeded to advise me that they had only 5 cigars left of the brand that I was looking for. I asked her to please put me on hold and go get the 5 cigars that they had left and set them aside for me in order to pick them up later that afternoon. She proceeded to explain to me that the manager for the cigar humidor would not be in till much later that afternoon and she had no knowledge of the cigars and was not familiar with the layout of their humidor after a brief conversation I explained to her where in their humidors the cigars would be located, she then proceeded to place me on hold and went to the humidor found the cigars and set them aside until I was able to pick them up. When I arrived at the store a couple of hours later the cigars were waiting for me at the counter. In my humble opinion that is outstanding service and what sets spec’s apart.

As I peruse the reviews below regarding this particular liquor store(Spec’s Stone # 110), I am amazed how many positive remarks have been posted. My wife and I have patronized this particular store several times since it opened and each visit has been progressively worse regarding service and selection. Today(12÷10÷14 @ roughly 3:00PM), I stopped by for a particular bourbon which was out of stock. When I walked up and down the store isles in search for knowledge help regarding my missing spirit, all I encountered was slack jawed gawkers standing in the rear of the store donning the Spec’s uniform huddled in a jovial group not interested in assisting customers. It appeared as though these hardly working employees were actively avoiding customer service/interactions. This particular store is poorly managed, small, and lacking any significant inventory(especially if one has a proclivity for craft beer and/or Irish Whiskey). ***NOTE***Gift cards are NOT treated as cash and thus one is penalized for using a gift card! Do yourself a favor and shop at Total Wine which now has two wonderful locations in San Antonio!

This is arguably the best Spec’s in town. They’ve got it all here. Quite a deep selection of liquor, coffee, and fin foods. Their beer selection is pretty good, and they have great deals if you look hard enough. They offer a humidor also, but I’ve found that nobody knows(or cares) what goes on in there. They don’t know the difference between one cigar and the next. Plus, their humidification leaves a lot to be desired. I’d skip this place for their cigars. Their wine selection is decent, but there are better and cheaper places around town. I really like the place that this place gets hopping on the weekend, and they always have all kinds of sampling, and promotions going on. It’s next to a graveyard, like right next to the place. It’s a little creepy if you’re heading there right before closing. Jeepers! The clerks are available and mostly helpful. They know their stuff, overall when it comes to booze. If you pay with cash, debit or check, you get a 5% discount which is appreciated! They offer a whole bunch of boxes to help you get your stuff home safely. Their beer and liquor gadgets are pretty cool too, they have a wide variety of toys to play with your drinks, such as flasks, cool glasses, etc. This is my favorite liquor store on this side of town.

I go here to find beers other places may not have, they’re good about that, they have an interesting selection. I would rank this place right up there with the Gabriel’s at The Vineyards, HEB Superstore at 1604 and Bandera, HEB at Alon, and Whole Foods in terms of selection, price and service. It falls a half step below Total Wines and More which I think has the best selection and programs in San Antonio. This place is close to me too, glad to have an alternative to HEB sometimes ya know?
