Silver Dollar Saloon

Absolutely love this place. It is my favorite gay bar in all of Texas and proud to say its in my hometown of San Antonio. Great margaritas and the best Tejano music! People are very friendly too and the drag shows can be fun!

Ok. Well Back in the day this place was called the Silver Chancla (which is Mexican for Sandal) Because of its level of class. However they have worked diligently to revamp the place and all in all its a a quaint little establishment that has cheap drinks, a little shade and a unique crowd for sure. They have Karaōke, allow smoking, full bar and someone who finds you attractive will most likely send you a drink… because they are less than 2.50… So bring some pepper spray and a friend and enjoy! Oh and the street tacos outside are tre’ yummy!

This was not the «gay country bar» I had in my head. To start, this is a large venue broken up into multiple rooms with each room having a bar. It’s very easy to get twisted around in this place. The staff was professional and friendly. It had a very relaxed atmosphere. There were security guards walking through the venue. There is a large room in the back with a stage for performances. And then there is another large room in the back for dancing. The bathrooms weren’t the best but your not going to find 5-​star bathrooms in a venue like this.
On this particular night that I went (Saturday), there was a drag show in the stage room, and then there was Tejano music playing in the dancing room. I would say there were as many gays that there were straights in this place, with a majority of the straights being female, mostly dancing in the dance room.
Did I see any «cowboys» here? Half dozen, if that… but that’s mostly because of the local gay rodeo association having an event that night.
I came looking for a gay country bar (comparing it to the likes of Midnight Rodeo). Did I find it here? No. Should this place be reclassified on other gay listing sites? Yes. This is NOT a gay country bar.
For what it is, for those looking for this kind of place, I think they would have a great time here.

Great times here. Another club my friends and I headed to during the weekend of the Gay Pride Parade. We got tipsy, sang a few songs and checked out the good looking people. Mwah!
