Medusa, the Salon

The stylist I was set up with for my appointment was running behind apparently and I received a phone call to say she was canceling my appointment. Super upset since I had two other salons that had availability (and got booked up in the end) and chose to go with Medusa as a first-​time client. Shout out to Rudy at the desk who tried to get me in another time slot, but I’m leaving town and couldn’t do that. Little trust in this place and probably won’t make it here in the future.

A big thank you to the miracle worker Nicole. She corrected a bad cut and color from a different salon. The staff at Medusa go out of their way to make customers feel pretty and pampered. I will return and highly recommend.

Got my color and cut done by Brenda and everything was awesome! My hair was really dark and she lightened it up for the spring and summer months with balayage/​ombré color. I absolutely love it and the color is lasting really well. Will definitely be back soon.

I went in yesterday to have balayage done by Haylee. She did an awesome job. I’m so excited to find such a talented stylist. I defiantly will be back in the future

I’ve been coming to Medusa for about 2 years. I normally see Andrea-​the BEST colorist in town, but I have also seen a few others like Erika and Esmy, all are fabulous stylists who make you feel welcome and give the best service in both customer care and hair care. I know of other great salons in town, but I wouldn’t dare risk getting anything other than the best, which is what I consistently get from Medusa’s stylists.

Nice setting for a great haircut. I did not have to wait much with an appointment with Hailee. She did recommend texturing my hair. She did an amazing job with my thick abundant hair. Will come back.

I go to see Michael Gonzalez for my cut and color needs!
I naturally have dirty blonde hair, but I had first gone red with another stylist. After wanting to change the shade of my red and being less than happy with my results, I first saw Michael in December 2014… And I haven’t seen anyone else since! Although I haven’t changed my color much in that time, he always gives me a beautiful, rich, deep red that my coworkers have described as «a nice merlot» that lasts forever. Michael often has other stylists at the salon asking him what formula he used for my hair! Red fades out notoriously quickly, and I take care of it on my own at home, but I’m able to go 6 – 8 weeks between visits. The faded color looks great on it own as well, although it is clearly more of a red/​red than a wine/​red. Mostly I’m forced to go back simply because my roots are showing, as opposed to being unhappy with the faded color!
I did a major cut to a bob last month, and I couldn’t have been happier. Michael loves his art — I was texting him Pinterest photo inspirations the day before and he was soo excited when I showed up for my appointment! I’m OBSESSED with my haircut, it’s everything I wanted it to be — blunt, choppy, volume, edgy, yet simple. I still get compliments on my hair more than a month after making the chop.
Michael’s prices are fair; all the stylists own their own business so it isn’t standardized throughout the salon. Parking can be a little tricky, oftentimes I’ve «illegally» parked at the flower shop across the street and walked over. There are usually refreshments available. The main salon is somewhat cramped — if you show up super early and have to wait, you’re pretty much limited to a cramped community table smack in the middle of the salon.

It’s about that time I update my review for Michael Gonzalez! I finally decided to just go for it and go super light blonde. Michael gets my slight fear of stark white and grey silver hair, so he kept me a true bleach blonde. The balayage looks AMAZING and I appreciate how he did the underside this time too, so I don’t get that ratchet two-​tone effect when I throw my hair up in a pony tail this summer. I won’t trust my color to anyone else!
As far as the cut — my hair needed a healthy hack to take the weight out and also make sure my hair is strong and healthy. I appreciate Michael listening to my love for mermaid hair, but also making sure my hair maintains resilience and shine. So happy with it!

I haven’t been wanting to leave this review… But it’s time.
I booked Clyde and Amanda for hair and makeup for my wedding. They did a trial for me and I LOVED it. They were super open to suggestions and made me feel so gorgeous.
The day of the wedding was a different story.
Clyde showed up to my appointment 30 minutes late. He was sick and genuinely sounded awful. He maybe said a total of 10 words to me and it was really awkward. He didn’t do my hair with quite the skill that he did the first time. The bobby pins were already falling out prior to the ceremony and I had to completely redo my hair before the reception. My mom’s hair was literally just curled at the ends. That’s it. When someone charges you $ 70-​$ 80 to get your hair done, and just curls the end, it makes you feel kind of stupid. If we had known that’s all he was going to do, my mom could have done her hair herself. Since Clyde was late, my mom didn’t have time to ask for him to fix her style. I ended up fixing it myself. It was just stress I didn’t need. We both left Clyde $ 20 tips because we felt sorry for him, being sick and all, but I don’t know… It left a bad taste in my mouth. We shelled out $ 200 for hairstyles that didn’t even last more than a few hours.
Amanda is a gem and you can’t go wrong with her makeup services.

I was nervous about going to a new stylist and cutting off my long hair (it was mid back). After reading all the reviews, I felt more confident.
The salon is very urban, staff is friendly, and they even offer refreshments while we waited.
Michael, my stylist, was great! He made me feel confident about my haircut, provided styling tips, and was overall a doll. He alone gets five stars.
Today, I got so many compliments. My favorite is «you look younger». Thanks, Michael!

Halee is a rockstar at blowouts. She made sure my hair was full of body and didn’t look flat.

Love that NICOLE is able to fit in my appointment even at the last minute via text. Told her I was bored of my hair and needed to polish it for work, so decided to cut straight across, choppy bangs with face framing pieces + take off the length and do blunt ends with minimal thinning but still layered for movement + tone and condition so it’s not as orange and dry. Didn’t even need to add more bleach/​process it more to refresh it, so saved a bit of $$ there, which I appreciate :-) see the After photo! She definitely listened when I showed her pics of what I wanted and when asked shorter or choppier bangs.
You can definitely see in the Before photo that even if I have very long and very thick hair, NICOLE did a great job on the seamless gradient of the balayage. Even when my hair was grown out for a few months, it didn’t look like amateurish «dip dyed» ombré/“disconnected” color where it was obvious where my natural color ended and the lightened areas began. I think this is important to note because I’m really glad that Nicole knows that ombré/​balayage is such a low maintenance hairstyle since your roots are supposed to show and blend in with the lightened areas, and is not a color block contrast (e.g. dark hair and dip dyed chunky blonde ends), which I’ve seen some professional stylists do (which is ok if that’s what’s you’re going for, but that not the «ombré» gradient I want).
Didn’t mention this before, but I always appreciate the card swiping USB attachment they Nicole has on her phone so it’s soo easy to pay, leave a tip, and get a text message receipt.
At the end of my appointment, Nicole already had ideas for my next hair color, so I’m excited to see what can do next :-) thanks again, Nicole!

I have been going to see Michael for a few years now. He is by far the best stylist I have had. I love the atmosphere at Medusa. It is relaxed and welcoming. The music where I went before was really loud and here its much better. It is very modern and you can tell that the stylists enjoy working there. I have gone from blonde to purple and back to blonde and I wouldn’t trust anyone else but Michael to do it. He always does exactly what I want and my hair always looks amazing when he does it. He is the nicest guy and I have already referred several friends, patients and family members to him! Love you Michael!

Excellent salon! Have seen Brenda, Christine, and Esmy here! All have done great work! Christine takes extra care to make sure that my hair is healthy throughout all of the processes we put it through. Me and my hair have found our happy place here!

Fixed my nightmare hair cut. Christine & Medusa were everything my hair needed. They use organic products and each person works their own hours– so make sure to ask your stylist.
Although my stylist was going out of town for a while. She recommended another stylist who would be available after 6.

I was looking for recommendations to get a hair cut at an affordable price and professional experience and several of my friends recommended Medusa. So I decided to give it a try and came in March for a cut and style with Andrea Mota and I told her what I wanted with some of her advice without pressuring me and it came out very pretty. I’m glad I didn’t cut it short. The second time I came I did a balayage with a cut and style by Brenda. I showed her what color I wanted without having to make it look dramatic. It took about an hour and a half for everything. The color they use is organic without damaging your hair or the smell of the harsh chemicals. Both ladies are hair bosses it doesn’t matter who you go to. They are amazing and creative. I plan to continue going to this place.

Andrea did an amazing job on my hair. I’m getting a sew in so o got a wash and blow dry. The wash head massage was great. Products used smelled fantastic. She was very thorough with blow out.

Just got done getting my first shampoo & cut at this fabulous place, and I have to say: BRAVO! Sexy, gothic décor coupled with an easy going vibe, this salon is the place to go for a good hairgasm.
Clyde was amazing! Very professional and knowledgable. He knew exactly what to do with my thin, tired hair. PLUS, on top of the shampoo and cut, I got a blowout and style! What a wonderful surprise! I ended up buying some of the organic products he used on me because it made my hair appear lighter, shinier and downright fabulous (if I may say so myself)! I found my personal stylist and my salon in SA!

I followed Aaron Clyde and Mayra here because they are AMAZING! Aaron Clyde has been doing working his magic on my hair for well over three years. I’ve never once gotten a bad haircut from him. Best of all, he remembers every style he has ever given me and always has suggestions for how we can improve the health, texture, and appearance of my hair. He is totally worth the 45 minute drive.
And Mayra is just as amazing. She has been doing my color almost as long as Aaron Clyde has been cutting and styling it! We’ve done black, red, blonde, ombré, highlights, lowlights, bayalage… she can handle anything I’ve asked for, and always, like Aaron Clyde, exceeds my expectations.

I have been wanting to have Christine do my hair for several months now. Long story short, I finally made it back in and I love my new cut and color!
Christine uses organic products and she is in tune with creating a low maintenance ‘do’ that saves time and minimizes damage to hair. I really appreciate that she is very knowledgeable about hair care products. She was willing to explain to me how things ‘work’ and what is best for the health of my hair. She was also willing to show me how to fix my new, lower maintenance style.
Very happy with my hair and happy with the new hair styling ideas and organic products I learned about!
