Wonderful local spot! The menu is limited but very tasty, and when you get a chance to talk to the owner, Mr. Williams, you will realize what a local gem you have discovered. This is a place with history, charm, and warm encounters. The restaurant is set on the top floor of an old house just east of the Alamodome. The bottom floor is both a museum and barber’s set-up. I recommend just trying what’s on special and striking up a conversation with your server or Mr. Williams, if he is around. I grew up in San Antonio, but had never been here until recently, and I will definitely be back.

It’s like getting invited into a friendly neighbor’s home for coffee and biscuits and gravy! …A neighbor who’s a good cook

I had the catfish here with shrimp which was good but just OK in my book. I am not a picky eater, but I am Picky when it comes to flavor. That is when I had the best thing here! RIBSYUM! So when I say the Ribs here are great not fall of the bone which I don’t think Ribs should be they should have a bite to them. A clean bite strait through with no fighting through the meat. That is what you have here great flavor, texture, appearance, satisfaction! Ha ha I sound like a BBQ judge for a second :) I have given them 4 stars on the Ribs and great friendly service.

The Landmark Coffee Shop/Café is more than a café. It’s a café, community meeting space, and barber shop. Yes, that’s right, I said barber shop. Let me explain… Upon my first visit to the Landmark I had already heard about the places multifunctional use but had to see for myself. I was still unprepared for what I found but I mean that in a GOOD way. The Landmark is a beautifully restored two-story home with a nicely manicured lawn. As you enter you are greeting by the long stairway that leads you upstairs to the café. But if you pause for a moment you will quickly notice the community meeting room to your right and small barber shop to your left. On my visit, I opted for the café and explored the rest of the space later. As you walk up to the café you will notice the walls are lined with old photos and memorabilia that represent the east SA culture. I wasn’t sure what everything was until I was greeting by the owner, Mr. Williams, at the top of the steps. He warmly welcomed me and suggested I take time to look at his«museum» –the walls– before I leave. The menu for the café is a bit limited but if you are looking for for a quick bite there is typical soup and sandwich type fare. The highlight to the menu is the daily special which seems to be a type of home cooked meal, sometimes southern style, sometimes soul food. Although the biggest treat comes on Friday’s as they offer baby back ribs and fried catfish. The staff is friendly and Mr. Williams seems to have a wealth of knowledge about the area. If you have a moment to stop and chat, that is. In addition to the café, as aforementioned, is the community room that is available for people in the area that are in need of a meeting space for civic, business, or other needs. And then there is the barbershop. There is a small waiting area and a two-chair barber area were area locals can take advantage of professional cuts. As it turned out, Mr. Williams was a barber and had actually opened up a barber school in another part of the city. Yeah, it may seem like I know a lot about this place but that’s just because once you get to talking to the owner and staff you begin to learn about the entire area… if you have an interest. I’m trailing. I’ll wrap this up by saying, if you want a unique experience with satisfying food and company the Landmark is worth a consideration. The Landmark is located in the East side of San Antonio – about a 5 minute drive from downtown – a block south of Commerce St.
