While I have never ventured into the game area, I can say the bar and outdoor areas are both fantastic. The game area has pool, darts and shuffleboard. The outdoor area has a bar and TVs as well. The bartenders and servers are personable, and it is a lot of fun to watch a game and chat with a bartender sitting belly-up. There are tons of seating options if the bar isn’t your style. The pizza is better than any national chain, and there is a full bar. Their beer selection is pretty good.(Nothing to write home about, but it is solid.) They have the most bizarre layout of a ladies room I have ever seen.

This is one of the most underrated bars in San Antonio. Everyone thinks it is just your standard neighborhood bar, but it is so much more! Lisa, the head bartender(maybe manager?) always has some crazy concoctions infusing, special shots and cocktails etc… Now, don’t think I am talking 1919, Brooklynite, or Blue Box style cocktails. I’m sure you can get an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, or any other classics but what I am referring to are the random fruit infusions being used to make things like a Strawberry, Rhubarb shot or the Pineapple, Curry shot, or any number of signature cocktails that she has created using her infusions. Next time you go in, skip the amazing beer list(yeah, they have an awesome craft beer tap wall too), or the basic Whiskey and Coke an take a look at the specialty cocktails. You won’t be disappointed.

My favorite bar to go to! Everybody who works there is super friendly and amazing at their jobs! Lisa makes amazing drinks that keep me coming back and Alex cooks the most amazing buffalo wings ever! Atmosphere is super chill and you can always find great music on the jukebox. Plenty of pool tables to play on. Definitely recommend!

What’s the deal with the grumpy old bartender here? Apparently he’s been here forever and is always like that? Why would anyone put up with that when there are so many other places within walking distance? It’s an ok place before the servers leave for the day. Good pizza.

The interior of Joey’s is pretty cool. You enter into an old school saloon-style bar that has the old school western feel to it. The bar has the huge mirrors behind the liquor bottles, with dark hard wood making up the entire bar itself. Aged wood booths are right next to the bar, and a banister with small tables/chairs at the top of some thin staircases. The next room has the shuffleboard, several pool tables, two dart boards, and electronic jukebox. The murals are pretty cool too. I didn’t even notice there was booze mixed into the traditional depictions. I’ve been here on a Saturday night, and Wednesday afternoon, both times were pleasant. The Saturday night I went was calm, even thought the surrounding areas are turnt up. That makes for some very limited and restrictive parking situations. Definitely need to be careful driving a sedan or smaller, since there are some huge holes in the dirt parking lot and low/no lighting. The staff was nice both times, but the wait-staff gets stretched a bit thin on the weekend. During the week my fiancé and I just got drinks at the bar and took them into the game room. Weekend, when I went with my buddies, we didn’t plan on drinking anymore and rightfully so. We would’ve gone thirsty. It’s hard for a single waitress to make rounds around the room when people are grabbing her attention right when she enters it. This place is great to chill after work and hangout out, but I wouldn’t get drunk here. Especially because this area of town deals with a lot of nightlife, which means egos, and saturated with police.

This place is a perfect after work retreat. Grab a couple beers, a pool table and let the fun begin. I’ve had many an interesting night meeting friends or work colleagues for a few rounds of both. I really like the selection of draft beers and ciders. Their bottled beer selection is pretty good too. Joey’s offers pool, or darts. There is a jukebox for a huge variety of music to skim through. On a couple of visits someone had picked out a few not so desirable songs. A big thanks to whomever you are :) You should definitely check this place out!

The bar tender does not care about customer service if you do not agree with her on what is good. She is not someone I think should be in this environment.

Bartender was very sweet. The waitress who came around to collect empty glasses was not very friendly. The environment itself is a great place to play pool. Nice distance between pool tables, wasn’t too crowded, and they have a good juke box. The music was quiet enough that you could still talk and socialize. The bar area is a little crowded but separate from the pool area. Pretty diverse crowd. It wasn’t too crowded for a Friday night. I did not try the pizza but it smelled good.

This place was great, the pool tables looked good and kept up with. The bartenders are pretty cool and make strong drinks. The environment is good and the waitresses are really nice and helpful. I also like that the crowd is more mature which makes it better there are no kids with drama.

I like the fact that Joey’s has shuffleboard, darts, big screen television, and lots of pool tables. To rent the pool tables, it’s $ 7/hr, versus the one where you put in quarters– that’s $ 1. It makes much more sense to buy the table by the game, because who plays more than seven games per hour? The darts and shuffleboards are gratis to play. They have a great beer selection, featuring lots of local brewers, and lots of different booze! They sell pizza. I’ve never had their pizza before. It smells good. They have a cool patio, sometimes with a fire going outside that allows you to hang out and kick back with a few cold ones! The bar itself looks really old, and is really interesting looking. It’s all wood– they don’t build ‘em like that anymore. Joey is Joey Villareal, the guy who owns Blue Star Brewing Co in Southtown. Of course, they’re going to serve some great beers. My complaint with this place? The bartender is not so attentive. I’ve been overcharged a few times by him by several drinks. He’s a bit short with the customers. The place is clean, and well lit. The men’s restrooms are upstairs, which is a bit of a pain sometimes after a few too many pints. The men’s restrooms aren’t exactly the cleanest, but that’s alright, I suppose. The music is run by an internet connected jukebox. They’ve got a lot of cool stuff on there.

Very rude waitress/bartender. Went a few weeks ago and service wasn’t bad, but after tonight… Not so much.

I’ve been here once before, loved the pizza, but after tonight, I won’t be going back thanks to a certain heavyset female bartender with red hair and a horrible attitude. The waitress told me the mixed drink menu wasn’t available because the aforementioned bartender was off the clock. Okay, I say, I’d like a water then for now, my husband ordered a beer. We waited several minutes, drinks never came. Rude bartender approaches, asked what we ordered, I said we were told she was off the clock. She got irritated at this for some reason. Pardon me for not expecting someone to work for free… anyway since I had her attention at this point, I hoped to ask about a drink from her menu, because it was delicious. I didn’t know the exact name and tried to describe it, she rolled her eyes at me. Ok then. I order a cranberry and vodka. More time passes, no drinks. I eventually ask the waitress to cancel everything. Rude bartender cancels and shoves my card at me and tells me to have a nice night. So like I said, I won’t be going back. Pizza is good, staff not so much. I also don’t want someone serving me who is apparently working for free, off the clock. That’s just odd.

Joey’s is my favorite quite spot. The bartenders are always cool and the people that go there are mostly my age, so the maturity level in there brings me peace. They have a pool hall and an outside area, which give it «space.» I am a regular, and I will be for the rest of my life.

Yeah so I don’t come here because they have just the right size beer list or because I want to play pool or because I know I will run into some friendly faces I haven’t seen in awhile. The PIZZA brings me back. I don’t care if you think I am crazy. Joey’s has some really good pie. It is just the right amount of sauce, bread, cheese and grease. The price is also perfect, $ 14.29 after tax for a large that was enough for 3 people. Don’t get me wrong Joey’s is a great place to drink with friends or drink with new friends you meet. I appreciate their jukebox jam selection but the sound isn’t overpowering so here is a word to the wise … you WILL miss your jam if you get carried away in conversation. I have been a frequent patron of Joey’s since 2001 and there has never been a rude bartender or door guy. I also have never been witness to customers getting into fights or starting trouble so I feel comfortable closing out the night there. Main takeaway: pizza pairs well with beer so give it a try.

We usually finish up here after a night of drinking on St. Mary’s. They have some food late night, we usually get a pizza and share it. Fun to go outside on nice nights and talk to friends; there’s is almost always somebody we know there. Good place to play pool of course, but I wish that they had a decent dart area. The place where the dart board is seems to have become a storage area, at least it looked that way the last time we were there. Drink prices are just right to finish off the remainder of 4your spending money and send you home with a buzz.

JOEY’s is the bar I love to go to when I’m done exploring the strip. I can eat, take a few shots, and gossip here… it’s nice and chill here, and the staff is great here. I get service as soon as I sit down which tells me they care about their customers.. So I recommend this place when Y’ALL are about to call it a night… oh and try their pizza they are finger licking good!!!

This place is my favorite bar on St. Mary’s. The place is laid back with a good selection of beers, full bar, food and plenty of pool tables. The drink prices are average and I’m not sure if there’s a happy hour because I’ve only been later at night. The pizza is good, especially considering the limited menu and fact that it’s not a restaurant. The pool tables are priced by the hour and while I can’t remember the rate, it’s nothing unreasonable. The music is a digital jukebox, so music selection is rather eclectic. Everything is great except the service. The waitresses do a good job but the bartenders aren’t friendly and move rather slow. They also keep the TVs on their shows, although they will reluctantly change one TV from Duck Dynasty to the World Series if you ask.

Still my center of the universe. Nice selection of beers, Scotches and tequilas, friendly bartenders and servers … but mostly it’s the clientele. I started going there years ago when it was a good place for a PR guy to run into all sorts of media types. It was their hangout. Not so much anymore, but the mix of people is still ideal, for me. They are a variety of young and old, urban workers and professionals. Crowd gets younger and more numerous as the night goes on. Happy hour is usually small. But prices are typical bar prices. The main part of Joeys is a classic bar. Deep and narrow, with ornate room-length bar. However, there is plenty of room: Outside patio, semi-private mezannine, and a spacious pool hall. Food is remarkably consistent, considering cooks change often. But it’s simple, basic fare: Pizza and nachos. Perfect for a snack when you’d rather stay and chat than go to dinner.

It took me moving away from SA to actually visit this place! Not sure how that happened, but I’ve resolved that problem now. Great bar where everybody knows your name. Lots of locals but a good mix of visitors as well. There’s a patio space as well as plenty of pool tables. The interior is just dim enough. There are about a dozen craft beers on type and a full bar. The food is actually better than I thought it would be! The pizza smells awesome at 1 a.m. Sit, grab a drink and chillax.
