Lucky for us the place is bigger than it looks because it was packed on this Lenten Friday when we dropped in for lunch. The counter service is efficient and fast so even though the line was 11 deep, we were able to order within 5 minutes at one of the two registers. The large wall mounted menu made choosing our meal easy and the prices were very fair, under $ 9 for most plates. I added an order of Fried Mushrooms because I like them and so I could see if they fried everything in the same oil. Lunch for two with drinks was $ 23 We took our number and found a table in the back. Cleanliness is well maintained here and my wife reported that the restrooms were sanitary although had a strange layout. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes and we tore into it with abandon. I added a little salt as I found it lacking but the overall seasoning and taste was very good. Light batter and no greasy after math made the fish and shrimp taste fresh and flavorful. The homemade cocktail sauce had too much Tabasco for our taste but the HM tartar sauce was better. The sides were thoughtfully prepared and seasoned and tasted homemade as well. We really enjoyed J Anthony’s and we will be returning to try more of the rather large menu. Prices right and well made, I’d recommend this place to a seafood lover. BTW they use separate fryers for the shrooms and they were delicious too.

Decided to treat the office to fried fish for Ash Wednesday. We ordered over $ 50.00 worth of family orders. Got to the office and there was no napkins, forks nothing. When we opened up the fries, they were a sticky, gooey mess all stuck together and also stuck to the paper. The bread was soggy because they stuck it in with the fried fish. Then the fish was completely tasteless! No salt or seasoning. When I called to complain they admitted that they do not season the fish only«bread it», they also stated that«you have to ask for napkins and utensils». Staff could at least ask do you want napkins and plates??? I then mentioned that a whole lemon was thrown in the bags and that it was not even cut up. Needless to say it was a complete waste of money. We wound up throwing it all away! My advice don’t waste your money here for Lent or any other time. I should have known something was up when there was no lines on Ash Wednesday!

If you’re looking for value prices to feed the entire family then come here. The fish is awesome as well as the fries. Much to choose from. Wishing for a location north of San Antonio.

This place never disappoints. The fried fish here tastes delicious and is fried up just right. The fries are big and have just the right crisp. They have a little condiments bar so you can serve yourself as much tartar sauce, lemons, limes, and whatever else you prefer. You also serve your own beverages here. Which is cool because, who doesn’t love refills? And they have Big Red soda on the fountain too, which is a treat. We come here every so often when we crave seafood and will continue to keep on coming. I have a family of 4 and always order the 9 piece family fish which comes with a pound of fries. We always order extra sides of fried okra and fried mushrooms, which are also good from here. The bill for my family of 4 comes out to around $ 40. Which is very reasonable. And the customer service here is excellent as well. At least once or twice during our visit, the employees come by our table and ask us if everything is good and if they can get us anything. Above all, my family and I are pleased with eating here and will continue to come in the future.

Great food !!! Great service !!! I really recommend JA for sea food. Their menu has a more mexican touch to their plates. My personal all time favorite is the Tilapia Veracruz. I love it !!! You get two sides. Be careful with ordering rice as one of your side because it already comes with rice. The tilapia comes served over a bed of rice mixed with corn. Items I like: Sides — May I suggest mac & cheese and the fries. Really good. Meals — Veracruz Tilapia, fried shrimp, fish tacos, shrimp cocktail. Fish caldo(spicy) with extra fillet of fried fish for $ 1. Desserts– The tres leches cake is also really good. Heads up — Be careful with the rice as it is a little spicy. Customer Service — They always come around to ask if everything is good. If it is not they always make it good. They really do have great customer service. Overall love this place and the service.

Excellent food at an affordable price! Beware that many dishes are SPICY though! The fish filets are delicious, and the fried mushrooms are served with a rich gravy that is sure to please. The fish caldo is also spicy in the best way! The service has always been good, which is why it’s on my go to list for lunch or dinner.

Clean restaurant with attentive staff. I had the Caldo de Pescado and I found it to be very yummy! The rice has a hint of jalapeño spice, love it! Good food.

It was OK. Ordered the Catfish plate, MUTHAFUCKINDELICIOUS fish and fries, but wish I had another piece. It only included 1-piece. The plate was near $ 8, at least give me 2 big pieces instead of 1 medium sized piece. Good fish though, just the quantity was a downer.

Fried shrimp are tasteless. Shrimp are over fried, hard, and it’s like chewing on a piece of tire. Cocktail sauce lacks any of the requisite zing and has the consistency of tomato juice. Fries are over cooked, side of corn looks like it was poured directly out of a can. Lame, stale, generic slice of white bread haphazardly tossed on the top of the meal sums it all up. $ 18 for 12 pieces of shrimp, weak sides, and a $ 2 iced tea!!! Avoid this place and head to Sea Island.

The place is nice an quaint. My family likes it, but there is nothing i like here. Every time i get something it is horrible. Case in point today i had the hand battered chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, and mac&ches. Steak was fishy an the mash tasted like water an dirt. Noodles in mac where over done an corn was to spicy for me so i drank my tea an told family this would be the last time i pay for food here.

First time here probably the last. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. Got the catfish plate, fish looked more like tilapia than catfish. French fries were like warm and the«salad» Was like half a leaf. Personally I wouldn’t call it a salad, just a price of lettuce.

Bought some meals and the were excellent. The only thing that I have to say is that when I always asked for extra bread and lemons they never include it. I do t care if I have to pay extra, but every time it never fails.

Blah. Skip it altogether. Not horrible, but tasty either. I had the caldo de mariscos and mojo de ajo fish. Well, If you advertise crab in something, use crab meat not imitation, or at least call it what it is. Also, mojo de ajo is supposed to be suateed in garlic, not steamed in tomatillo and onion. Disappointed.

4 Chicken Strips battered perfectly. Cajun Rice definitely different, peppery but good. Shells & Cheese was not bad Good atmosphere and music loud clean. Service was prompt due to freshness. Manager followed up with me.

We ordered the 8 piece fried shrimp with 2 sides and grilled fish and shrimp plate. The side option we chose was Cajun rice that tasted like Spanish rice but spicy, mashed potatoes and fries were okay and the side salad with ranch. The salad was warm because it was served on our plates and the dressing tasted funny, not like ranch. The grilled shrimp and fish were good and so was the fried shrimp. The cocktail sauce was watered down though. The food is over priced. I’d rather go to Sea Island or Laguna Madre. Plus the critter in the restroom grossed me out. I know there may be critters but I don’t want to see them and hope the restaurants I eat at are clean.

I really wanted to give this place a perfect 5 stars, but the watered down shrimp sauce messed that up for them ! I ordered the advertised special which was 1 fish and 10 shrimp and 2 sides: fries and rice all for under $ 8 ! The shrimp was medium sized– plump and juicy, tail off. The fried fish was plentiful and tasted great ! The rice was supposed to be cajun rice but tasted more mexican and the fries were big and crispy, which was great. They have a condiment bar where you can get all the lemons, tarter sauce, shrimp sauce, etc you want !! I wish the shrimp sauce was a little more thick but still it was good. I will be going back in the future and soo glad that they came to the south side !
