This place has closed and is opening under a new name. Las Kekas. I wonder how it will be.

Got the migas… didn’t come with potatoes. Cost 2 dollars more than the neighboring restaurants. Disappointed

The food was very good, the service was overwhelmed, the place was packed. I would try again on a less busy time.

I’ve had breakfast here twice this month and it was delicious each time. The portion sizes, salsa, and service are very good. While the restaurant itself is a little cramped the great tasting food more than make up for that one little flaw. I will be trying their lunch some time this month so I will update my review once I do that. I’d definitely recommend this place for a great tasting cheap casual breakfast.

I really enjoyed our first visit, with my Dad from California. Food was excellent, extensive and interesting menu, and the re-fried beans are truly exceptional. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed re-fried beans before, but really, they are made from scratch with love.

The Quesataco was amazing! Overall, this was fantastic stop for our group and we will likely go back.

First time Unilocal has ever led me wrong, I think. We were visiting San Antonio for my Mom’s 60th birthday, and I was in charge of picking restaurants for the weekend for 11 people(no pressure!) There were countless delicious-looking Mexican food places in San Antonio, of course, but unfortunately, I picked this one(and it wasn’t even anywhere near where we were staying). Out of 11 people, I think 2 liked their food. My «make your own» tacos were bad — the fajita meat was unchewable. Is that a word? It’s getting red-lined. Anyhoo, my sister couldn’t eat her steak with red sauce, and almost everyone was less than thrilled. I gave 2 stars because the service was a solid B+, and the queso was also acceptable. But I’m devastated I made a whole trip to San Antonio without getting to feast on delicious Tex-Mex.

Awesome beans, great restaurant, I liked it a lot. We had the quesatacos or something like that, they were really good, we also had the fajita tacos, which was only okay, I mean the meat was great, but no sides to go with it, I would have enjoyed some guac or something to go along. My kids had basically the same thing as the tacos but with cheese and theirs was pretty good. We tried the fideo soup, and while it was good, it didn’t wow me. I’m picky with food though, love lots of spices and seasonings. This place was really good, I would definitely go back again, but I wasn’t wowed just yet.

Hands down, favorite tiny Mexican spot. This place doesn’t have all the bells and whistles you may expect from some places but their customer service, quality of food and pleasant atmosphere makes up for it. Great lunch specials(Thursday is my personal favorite… I cannot recall the proper name, I call them street tacos — delicious!). This is more homemade Mexican than chain food. I have never had a single thing to complain about!

Simply delicious. The beans, chicken tacos, and pork special were just perfect. The queso flameado was just like my grandmother makes.

Had flautas and asado de puerco both were great. This place is has true home cooked flavor earthy and delicious. The only reason it’s not perfect score is it wasn’t spicy. Just personal preference.

I came to El Palmito exceptionally hungover. It was 9am on a Sunday. I had just gone to sleep(reportedly; I cannot personally confirm this) at 5am. But another group of friends were meeting for Sunday breakfast here and J-Lo be damned if he will pass up a free meal. I seldom venture out to the Bandera Road area, but I immediately was digging the vibe to El Palmito. Apparently, everyone knows everyone here. They have a cool, little outdoor wooden patio area and the inside is basically a house-turned-restaurant, which is a nice layout. The special that morning was: huevos rancheros w/refried beans, potatoes, coffee… and El Palmito’s special addition: a pork patty. All for about $ 8. While the coffee was sub-par, the food was maravilloso! Eggs were topped well with the delicious salsa, the beans had a distinct flavor to them that made those bad boys gone almost instantly, and the pork patty helped clean any remnants on the plate. I’m told they do daily specials that are only $ 5 – 6! I also heard they do a baked potato-taco hybrid. «Papataco»?! Do if you dare. The restrooms were clean. Little tight, but clean! Definitely give it a go if you’re in the area. You’ll enjoy it.

I’ve been coming here since the day I moved into my house in LV. I love love love this place. Now it’s a house turned restaurant so seating and bathrooms are tight but comfy. The parking is the same way too. Even if you don’t like that regardless you’ll be in food heaven. Every time I leave, I’m always full and satisfied!

It’s like a Mexican home cooked meal! Visited on a Sunday and it will be a new Sunday ritual! They have a daily special available. It is small inside so feels a lil cramp between tables. Food came right out and was delicious! I wish I could cook exactly like this but good thing El Palmito is around so I don’t have to. If they had a cookbook I’d buy it!

This is a great place for lunch and nice niche for telecommuters. It has wifi access but has a cozy atmosphere. The service is great and personable. Best dish on the menu… THEPAPATACO!

«Monday Monday, so good to me, Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be» I am convinced the Mammas and the Pappas came up with this song after going to eat at El Palmito! This cozy house turned restaurant was very nice. We were greeted by a very courteous waiter who quickly took our drink orders. Specials for Monday were Calabacita con puerco or your choice of enchilada plate. I chose the chicken mole enchiladas and my wife opted for the calabacita con puerco. Both are served with rice, refried beans, a cup of fideo soup and flour tortillas. The mole enchiladas were delicious. Mole sauce was thick and not clumpy. It leans towards the bitter side, but not to the point where you won’t enjoy. Topped with cheese and if you want, onions and cream. The rice was very fluffy and had a good flavor. Refried beans were awesome and you could taste that they were made the old fashioned way, with manteca(pork fat). This plate was a winner. The star of the show today was the Calabacita con puerco. Holy cow, this was an awesome dish. Pork was out of this world tender and had an amazing flavor too. The calabacita(squash) was soft and also took on the flavors of the meal nicely. Corn firm like a good corn should be like. This dish reminded me of the one my mom used to make. We were told their calabacita con puerco is made only on Mondays. If you are a fan of that dish, then I think you need to pencil a trip to El Palmito for next week. You just might see me there again and hear me singing«Dedicated To The One I Love» to my plate.
