This place is horrible! Seriously the worst customer service EVER! They are NOT here to help the diver and build relationships in the dive community but rather all in it for the money and the sales! I was looking or née gear and being a bit heavy looking for a new suite instead if helping me find one that fits they just wanted to hurry up and sell me a wet suite that was 2 sizes too small ! Looking at new BCDs again wanted to hurry and sell me the most expensive they had without me trying it on! They are selfish rude WAY over priced! The shop smelt like mildew. I wouldnt want to get certified here because i wouldnt trust their judgment being that they seem like they would just check the boxes and get you out asap! Id rather take my business to smaller local shops that care more for the diver and the sport! NOTRECOMMENDED!!!

I had a really great time learning how to dive here. To start, this was the only PADI shop in SA that answered the phone when I called(!). So there’s that. Certification took place over two weekends — the first being classroom and instruction in their 14 foot pool which is on site. The second weekend was diving in the Comal River(Canyon Lake is used when it’s a bit warmer). Throughout it was a relaxed, laid back process. I never felt like I was rushed or not mastering the skills. For equipment, you get a discount off tuition for buying the basics with them. And yes, it is expensive. Yes, you can find the stuff cheaper online. However, since I didn’t know a wetsuit from a birthday suit, I really appreciated the personal attention and knowledge in selecting gear. I didn’t feel steered towards expensive stuff, but the stuff that would work best for me and for the long term. You can’t get that online. I would describe the facility as «functional» — this isn’t a resort or day spa. It is a place for learning and as such, don’t expect a lot of frills. It gets humid, the pool is half salt water, and don’t forget to bring a towel! Most importantly, I feel like they know me and what I want to do. A week after I got certified, I had my first«real» dive planned for a reef in Miami. I got to kiss more $$$ good-by on a pair of gloves, but I’d rather do it here than show up and have to buy something somewhere else as a tourist. A great experience and the beginning of a long and expensive relationship!

Guess what people? You do not need to take a trip to some exotic place down south to learn to Scuba Dive! Located off of Thousand Oaks is Dive World Scuba, equipped with a 13 foot pool to complete a life long certification in Scuba Diving. I stopped in this morning because I was so blown away by the pool being right in the middle of a strip mall. The man who helped me told me there are many different classes. There are weekend classes, night classes, home study, and then of course, the diving instruction. Totally cool. The whole package, including brand new gear, runs about $ 700-$ 900. I don’t think that is bad to have a lifelong certification. Now I just have to convince my husband that we need to be scuba divers. Going to miles down the road is a pretty good persuasive point.
