It’s always tough to give a critical review to a nice guy. I hired Jim because I was impressed with his knowledge and professionalism when he came out for the estimate, because the price was right, and because he is a self-described perfectionist. Unfortunately either and I don’t use the same dictionary when we describe perfectionist, or his perfectionism simply doesn’t extend to his work. The paint job wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great – and certainly not perfect. I know I’m picky, but I had to continually point out missed spots, drips/runs in the paint, etc. throughout the project. After the first few rooms, this got a bit tiresome. Even now, I’m still finding a few missed spots and runs that I need to fix. Additionally, there are also paint spots I’m still finding on the floor – especially around doorways. Certainly not then end of the world, but it seems like these could have been easily avoided with the use of drop cloths. Finally, the customer’s schedule seems to take a back seat to the contractor’s schedule. When I accepted the proposal, I mentioned that we couldn’t do work from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. Jim said this was not a problem and said they’d be able to start in «a couple of weeks.» It ended up being five or six weeks. I was pretty flexible, so not a huge deal, but just a little annoying. Then the final day of the project, completion ended up taking longer than they thought, forcing me to cancel an appointment in order to allow them to finish up the project that day since Jim stated if they didn’t finish it that day, they wouldn’t be able to come back tomorrow. Unfortunately I’ll have to look elsewhere for my next painting project.
