Great store! I have been back several times to buy various things and they have always been helpful and I always end up buying something that I hadn’t seen at one of the usual electronics stores. I bought 2 different wireless routers from other places, then the guys at Altex listened to my issues and sold me a router that fixed all my issues. I really feel good about my purchase whenever I leave this store.

I took my PC in to these folks twice to get the malware and viruses removed. After the 2nd visit the tech told me there was nothing else they could do and suggested I wipe the hard drive, reinstall the OS and and replace the software currently on my PC. This would have been very expensive. I called to talk to the manager 3 times but only got the asst managers, never heard from the boss. I subsequently took my computer to the PC Doctor on RedLand Rd. These techs worked hard to get my PC back to running correctly. It took 3 return trips to fix it but they eventually got the job done without charging more than the initial fee. I won’t be taking my business back to Altex, apparently they don’t care about customer satisfaction.

When my husband had me pickup some cables for him here, I had no idea what it was I was needing beside the name he gave me. The staff here were really helpful in getting me exactly what I needed!

In Reply to another review(filtered) done by David M. Yes, you are right, they DO know computers. You are not right in thinking that none of them has ever had sex though. I know for a fact that everyone working at the store currently, HAS, they just pretend they haven’t in order to preserve the common perception that unlaid computer geeks are better at what they do. It’s all part of maintaining the public image. They do, in fact, get a fair amount of tail. In this day and age, chicks dig a smart guy that makes a decent living and truly knows how to use the electronic world to their advantage as well as fix any problems THEY(or their current Beau) might have in terms of hardware failures or gaps in their education. ALL retail salespersons are actors, to a certain extent. Never judge a book by its cover.

Price. Come on I’ve heard of a mark-up but $ 90 to $ 100??? An Asus Rampage III Formula on NewEgg is $ 275 or $ 250 open box. Altex sells the same item for $ 360($ 359.95). Wow — I’ve heard of a mark-up but that’s insane. Computer repair is one thing but NEVER and I mean NEVER buy a part from here unless a dire, dire, dire emergency.

My computer knowledge is mediocre, but I manage to survive. Especially because of great help that I get from folks like at Altex. I went looking for a shell for my old hard drive, convert it to an external. Asked one of the guys at the counter, if I had the right part — nope! Thomas was his name. So he goes and grabs the correct part, opens the package, mounts my hard drive, and then tests it on a computer to ensure it works. Not a difficult task, but I appreciate it anyway, and one he didn’t have to do. Really cool Altex. These guys want your loyalty and are looking to impress to get it. Or maybe its just their style. Regardless, they have my business.

They have just about everything you could possibly need for computers and networking. It’s like home depot for computers. Most of the time I’ve been here, they have been very helpful. Even when I don’t know exactly what I need, they help me find it. For example when I needed to get some memory for my Mac, they were able to help get the right type. And for a much more affordable price than going through Apple! Recently I went to get something to connect my Mac to a projector, and I had a Nick burns the company computer guy experience where the dude basically said he didn’t want to spend a few minutes to help me find the right adaptor because I didn’t have the serial number and he didn’t want to spend«half an hour» to help me find the thing and blah blah. Well it turns out Macs only use two types of cords, I figured this out after spending about two minutes on google. And it took me about one more minute to find out which of the two I needed. Even after I asked the dude to look it up on the internets for me at the store, he pretty much decided he had something better to do that afternoon like… plan for his WoW raid or something. So okay fine maybe they dont know Macs as well but I guess that’s what the«genius bar» is for right? WRONG. I’d still rather spend a few minutes with Nick Burns at Altex than take one step in the Mac store.
