The store is decent and the people there are great. The general problem with Safeway is that they overcharge for items all the time, and I am beginning to believe it may be an intentional practice. I carefully check my receipt and I recommend you do the same. Virtually every other trip into the store I find one item or another that checks out at a significantly higher price than as marked on the shelf. Sale and«Just4U» items are particularly prone to this behavior. And each time it happens, I spend extra time at the customer service counter obtaining a refund and an apology. I recognize it’s not the fault of the store personnel, so I am cordial to them. We’re moving soon, and I will frankly be glad to no longer be stuck with a Safeway as the most proximate full-service grocery; if Trader Joe’s in Sammamish had a superior meat and bakery, I’d never set foot in Safeway again.

This is only reviewing the customer service counter. Do not come here if you need to buy money orders with a debit card. They only take cash. Do not come here if you need to fax something as they don’t offer this service. Two stars because I have experienced better. I went to QFC in Pine Lake and was able to buy money orders with my debit card and they offer fax service.

I’m a big Safeway fan, and I do the lion’s share of my family’s grocery shopping at Safeways on the eastside. My kid goes to a teen camp across the street from this store, so I often pop in here after dropping her off, on my way to work, to pick up an item or two. I’m usually here super early in the morning when there are few customers around, between 6:30 — 7:30 am. I love this store but the jury’s out on the staff. As in most Safeways(especially the newer stores), the store is clean and large and bright, the shelves are well-stocked, the aisles are wide, there’s a great selection of most anything you’d need or want(nice bakery section and floral section, fresh produce), the prices are reasonable and the sales are quite good. I have nothing negative really to say about the actual physical store. The staff, on the other hand… It’s really hit or miss here. I’m so used to friendly Safeway employees, asking me if I need help finding anything, or asking me if I found everything ok when at the cash, and how my day is going, and all the little niceties of social intercourse. But this is not usually the case at this particular store. Once in a blue moon I’ll get someone ringing me out at the cash who will smile and ask how my morning is going. But usually, 90% of the time I’m here, the cashier lady or guy won’t look at me or say a thing to me. Case in point: today I rushed in here, needing only one item. I wandered up and down 4 aisles looking for what I needed. I was obviously«lost»(lol) and 4 or 5 employees who were walking briskly about(going to or from the stockroom, or on some other mission) in the area saw me, yet none asked me what I was looking for or if they could help me find something. Then at the cash, the cashier chatted briefly with the lady in front of me(they apparently knew each other), but not a word to me. Not even«hello» or «Thanks for shopping at Safeway». Nada. Just cold and impersonal. Not the usual exchange I get at the Rose Hill/Kirkland SF or the Bear Creek/Redmond SF or the Overlake SF or ANY other Safeway. Go figure.

I love this place! You can find everything you need there, even if you are looking for sometimes hard to find stuff. Wish their kosher isle would be reacher in verity. The stuff is always great. The food is fresh and the selection is good. The prices are cheaper than in the local QFC or the overpriced Whole Foods(for the same items). I very rarely shop in Costco, as this place together with the nearby Trader Joe’s — totally satisfies the needs of my family of 4 plus many guests, that cooks everything from a scratch.

Great selection of potted plants, herbs, succulents… flowers! And affordable, so I go in often! Samantha and Sylvia are totally sweet; listened to everything I needed without hurrying me to pay, like so many other shops on the Plateau and nearby Seattle.

I want to thank Katherine for going above and beyond to help me. I had a very bad experience and another Safeway and wanted to get a phone numbers to the district mgr so I could tell him about it. She ask about my experience and apologized even though it wasn’t at her store, and in fact was the only one to do so. No one at the other store even came close to it. Not only did she call around to get me the proper phone number but called the person and left them a voicemail with my info so that they would get back to me very first thing in the morning then promptly called me back and gave me the info. Safeway, you are lucky to have an employee like Katherine. Maybe you should send her to your new store in Issaquah Highlands to teach them some manners and customer service.

Convenient. The self checkout experience is awkward, confusing, demoralizing, and ant-customer service. I just love to be stared at/video recorded while I cashier and bag my own groceries-especially when I am paying full price(uh…not).

This Safeway is just like pretty much every other Safeway out there. The only thing I really have to say about it is that some of the staff there just sucks. I’ve had multiple experiences at the checkout with people giving me serious attitude, acting like doing their job or ringing me up is an inconvenience to them. Other than that it’s just plain old Safeway. Whoopee…

Not the best store on the plateau. Messy and not well organized. The meat is below average and the produce is old.

It’s a pretty average supermarket with very good employees. What knocks them down two stars is pricing, particularly on staples like bread, chicken, canned goods, etc. They will almost always be $ 1 more per unit when compared to Fred Meyer in Redmond. For example, you can usually get Foster Farms boneless/skinless chicken breasts at Fred Meyer in the multipack for a shade under $ 4/lb. At Safeway, they’ll usually be about $ 5-$ 5.50/lb. Hunts tomato sauce at Fred Meyer is usually $.65, at Safeway it’s $ 1.25. It’s the little things like that which result in a bill that’s almost always $ 10-$ 15 higher. Like I said though, they have good, helpful employees, and they’re very convienent for anyone that lives on the northern part of the plateau. They’re also(slightly) cheaper than QFC. Just be aware that it comes at a price.

The Safeway is just like most other Safeways. I guess. It’s pretty big and has all the usual things. My main experience, however, was with the deli area. That sales person in the Chinese food section was way too good. She was super nice and did a good job convincing me to get some combo special. When it came down to eating it, however, I was… not so happy. I think I also had a small stomach ache afterward as well. Boo. Don’t let the nice old ladies(or whoever else is working) reel you in! That deli section Chinese is usually something that should be skipped. I guess I just have grocery store«deli» food infrequently enough that I keep forgetting… but… NOMORE. Hopefully.
