Valley Fair Mall

Sad and small, with a scant amount of legitimate stores and a preponderance of off-​brand «novelty» merchants. Walking through this mall wreathed me in existential despondance, the kind one feels overhearing a 50 year old discussing the positive attention her new breast implants are getting on
The big megaplex is a good draw however, and potentially the cheap theatre (though I haven’t seen a movie there).

You’d expect a higher a rating from someone who spent their whole life there right?
I remember going to this mall when I was about 4 Years old waiting on my mom to get out of work and watching movies with my grandma then getting my first job here at 16 and seeing the changes, yet, I still hate this mall.
I’m not gonna get into the Christmas animal cruelty display as its not the season and it has been pointed out already. The stores in this place are just cheap and well ugly. There’s only a couple stores you’ll recognize. Zumies, jcpenney, Macy’s and of course the wonderful megaplex.
Sure there has been work done around it but the mall itself aside from the megaplex theater which I have a review of it’s own (very different experince)
I don’t think all the money in the world can fix this place. The stores are bad the atmosphere is bad the service is bad. It’s just not a pleasant place to visit. Never was.

Probably 1 star is a bit unreasonable. There is some actual stuff I like in that area and I do admire that they had a gigantic «truck day» in the parking lot, complete with bucket lifts, for charity. I still think the layout sucks and I loathe going there. This is never going to be my first choice for a mall and there’s not a ton of stuff I’d really change from the first review, but 1 star to me means I’m more or less saying something should be closed and that’s not really the case here. It’s still not too much of a nice place to be, but some of the stuff could be an option, if you were in the area.

This mall might be «ghetto» because many none brand stores, most crowds are Hispanic, and people’s cars had been break in before. Even when I was walking through the mall, I could hear people saying, «dang, rarely see Asian shop in here!» Sure, I am here for few reasons.
One of greatest things in this mall is the FOOD! Diversity brings delicious authentic food!
Hey Utahns, stop eating your greasy americanized mexican food and get your butt to food court! Ever had Mexican fruit cocktails? Sliced fresh fruits with chili powder! Also there is a juice bar here that press fresh fruits and vegetables! You can custom your own healthy juice too! Perfect for healthy freaks!
Asians usually stay around the mall’s main entrance because Asian App+. I love that place! This place serves fruit crepes, boba, Asian shaved ice, Asian Delights (chicken feet) and authentic Chinese soup noodles. I always get the hot sour soup noodles with pork intestine.
Once a while, I would stop by The Nerd Store for some Collectibles. I am so glad this nerd store doesn’t smell like unshowered nerds! I have been to almost every nerd stores in Salt Lake City and Provo, 95% of them smells!
Megaplex is one of newest built megaplex. Comfy and cushioning seats with more legs room! Atmos sound system!
Yep, there are places in here worth to explore!

Valley Fair Mall gets a bad rap for being known as the Ghetto Mall or Latin Central, but it’s not as bad as people think. The crowd is very diverse and half the stores are independently owned and ones you’ve never heard of, but that’s what makes it unique. I mostly come to this location because it’s close to home, there’s a Macy’s and a mini Sephora inside of JC Penney, there’s a huge Megaplex theater, and there’s a nice variety of fast food options. One of my favorite snack stands is Juicy’s, located in the east end of the food court near the dollar theater. They’ve got Mexican candy and snacks like corn on the cob or cup, strawberries and cream and yummy drinks that are all inexpensive.

Valley Fair Mall’s cruel Christmas display of live reindeer has convinced me to boycott this business. I’m especially appalled that they have ignored the social media backlash.

I am participating in a boycott of this mall until they no longer feel the need to keep reindeer in a cage in the middle of the mall. That is animal cruelty. Shame on your business.

I grew up going to this mall. It is a lot nicer than it used to be as far as looks go, but the stores could use some work. The larger stores on the ends are nice, but as far as the smaller stores it would be nice to upgrade some of those and get some newer more well known stores inside. Like another review stated, the smaller stores inside do seem to sell cheap things like clothing, toys, and items. The stores back in the day were better than they are now, but the building is nice.

This is the strangest mall I’ve ever visited. While it does have a JC Penny (the closest to us, and where I needed to go to pick up my son’s shoes I ordered online), Macy’s, and a couple small name brand shops in between, every other store in the mall looks like it sells cheap clothing and shoes that fell off the back of a truck. I was shocked to not see a single kids clothing store or even any other clothing store in the mall besides the two mentioned above that wasn’t some cheap boutique with clothes from who knows where. We just moved to SLC a couple months ago, so were pleasantly surprised to find another mall a little closer with less traffic than Fashion Place, City Creek, South Towne, etc, but other than being able to pick up my son’s shoes at JCP? Not really worth it for much else.

Two stars because it has I-​max. I had not been here since the early nineties and still a ghetto type of mall. Outside of the mall they have added a lot of places to eat and shops like Ross. Inside tho it’s one ghetto shop after another selling the same trash you can find at Gen X (are they still around?) It’s like a higher step for an indoor swap meet. It seems there are 5 shoe stores that sell the same plastic shoes or glittery 6 inch stripper shoes. Seriously makes Payless look designer. The Macy’s is nice and big and clean but empty. I guess its a great place for the mall rats in the area. Convenient that the court house is across the street and I had time to kill. I willl never be back.

I can’t really judge the mall (although it seemed nice). I came for IMAX and it was worth it! Saw Gravity in 3d on the GIGANTIC imax screen. It was kind of confusing to find the entrance to the imax but it is worth the trip out if you want to see something on the hugest screen ever.

Besides the Megaplex, this place hasn’t REALLY changed since the 80s…

For many years, Valley Fair Mall had been notoriously known as «the ghetto mall» among the locals. In the past few years, they rigorously remodeled the exterior and added many new shops within the mall zone. To avoid main traffic in 2700 W with the TRAX, I generally prefer the back entrance via 2400 W, assuming you are coming from I-​215 or westbound 3500 S. Parking is a lot better now, but I encountered a few «unarmed» panhandlers in my last few visits, which is a sign of mall security problem.
The interior of the main mall area is still the same as before except for the newly added Megaplex Theatre, which bought in new moviegoer traffic. Interesting stores I found were a purse specialty shop and a Boba Tea place setup there near the West main entrance now. The new exterior shops are actually much better than the ones inside, and many chain restaurants and shops are located outside now. They also got a mini water park that shoots water from the ground for kids to play in like the one in Gateway Mall now.
If you have not been to Valley Fair Mall for many years, perhaps now is a good time paying them a visit? I suppose a hidden perk is that you can now ride TRAX from Valley Fair Mall to Airport for $ 2.50 without changing lines.

It is getting better, but it is totally ghetto. OMG if you really want the whole West Valley City experience, go straight to the ROSS and people watch the millions in line. Holy Crap, that’s the ghetto!
Stick to the outside stores and the new movie theater and you will be safe and have a Gateway-​esque experience!

Moved to UT from Cali & esp coming from L.A. you go hit up the malls. That was the first thing I had in mind when I moved to UT. When I first came here, I thought to myself, this mall is so ghetto with some of the cheap stores they have. Valley Fair Mall makes the Crenshaw Mall in Cali look better. No joke — I rather shop at a swap meet than this mall. A very boring atmosphere. Not a lot of good food court choices. Glad I’m moving back to Cali, where ill finally go to a real mall.

I only come to this mall in the winter when I’m craving swap meet-​esque shopping.
Lots of weird stores you’ve never heard of, and even weirder products at some of them. I saw a stuffed monkey toy called a «Mushabelly Chatterfloppy» there once that had a stocked on its stomach that said «squeeze please for a grumble» but it sounded more like a fart than a grumble.
There are a couple of beauty shops that have cheap deals on fake eyelashes and I go there when I need to stock up. Other than that, I try to avoid this mall.

The only reason this review got 1 star is because of the new businesses around the actual mall. I can see why the first phases of the new development were to hide the mall as much as possible because the actual mall is that bad. Unless you want to contract hepatitis, get shot or feel better about yourself then by all means take a stroll down the darkly lit, no ceiling dirty run-​down mall corridor, if you can find an entrance to it. Most of the decent businesses have left or never came. There are a few recognizable stores in there (for the life of me I can’t figure out why they chose to be there though) but for the most part these shops are no-​name stores that you will probably want and will forget about as soon as you leave the building.

3. Demolish and start over and while you’re at it work with the city to actually improve all of the roads to get there (3500 S. seems like it’s always underc onstruction but never actually improves. This ‘mall’ seriously needs some help.
What a dump (the actual mall part).

Despite being on of the oldest malls in the country Valley Fair Mall has been remodeled and updated in the past few years and is looking really good both inside and out. With big stores like Macy’s and JCPenny, and a Costco nearby, more and more people appear to be shopping at Valley Fair Mall. Unfortunately beyond a few big stores the mall doesn’t have much else that interests me. There aren’t many «brand name» stores in the mall. Instead, most of the stores are one-​offs, unique to the Valley Fair Mall, many of which seem to cater to the Latino community. Sadly you won’t find a Gap, American Eagle, Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer, or Victoria’s Secret or most of the other stores you’d expect to find at other mall. Valley Fair Mall just doesn’t have the draw to have bigger names stores I guess, which is too bad. Best to go to Fashion Place Mall if you want the standard mall stores.

Love this mall! The remodel looks great, very open and updated! It’s a great location with unique stores! Love Smash Burger and Sushi Monster and how can you not love the Christmas Tree over the holidays, what a great experience!

The mall itself is still kinda ghetto inside. However, they’ve made some major improvements with the parking lot changing it into some sort of strip mall. I was disappointed in the new Ross that opened. SMALL SELECTION! That’s hard for me to say because I love Ross… However, they chose some really great food places to have here! Olive garden, TGIF, Smash Burger, In-​N-​Out to say a few…
