It was previous Unilocal reviews, written for his old location, that led me to try Dr. Canfield. I was looking for a ‘minimalist’ in that, I wanted someone who would tell me only what really needed to be done in order to have a happy healthy smile. My last dentist told me I needed 5 crowns and soon. I just couldn’t believe that so I never went back.
I went in initially to Dr. Canfield because I hadn’t had a check up for a while, and I was having some cold sensitivity, so I was worried there were neglected problems in there, festering (due to those foreboding warnings).
Dr Canfield’s office very distinctly states, ‘we care more about you than our décor’, or ‘we’ll keep your bill down because we aren’t spending gobs of money trying to impress you’. It’s all done in shades of teal and rose with a definite 90s feel to the artwork. Hey, give it another decade and it’ll be retro-​chic. I was already liking it.
I’ve been back now enough times to say that there are no waits, it’s never busy, and when he’s seeing you, he’s just seeing you — not juggling between 2 or 3 people at once, waltzing in and out while you lay there wondering what’s next.
The initial check up made me very happy. He said there were no cavities and nothing he was immediately worried about. I pointed out a few spots I’d noticed and he explained them to me and said they were not worries. YES! Just what I wanted to hear. I don’t mind a little cold sensitivity as long as I know it’s not something bad happening that I’ll regret later.
The hygienist who did my cleaning the next time I came in (I think there’s only one) is very sweet and was very nice about everything, and she did a great job.
The things I liked about my root canal at my prior dentist were the blanket and the tv in the ceiling and the laughing gas. However, it took about 1 ½ hours. So at first I was a little stressed when I was just sitting in this 90’s chair waiting while he did some drilling. UNTIL, after only 20 minutes he said, ‘OK! You’re done!’ And I suddenly thought about all of the time I spent WAITING at my previous office. HEY, if I can sit in a chair for 20 – 30 min instead of 1 ½ hours, who cares about all of that other crap?!
Also, they worked things perfectly and carefully with my insurance to maximize benefits and keep my costs down.
I know people are all looking for something different in a dentist. Some may want the more cushy, pampered feeling, fancy office, etc etc. To you I’d say, eh, you may not love it here. That’s the only reason for my 4 stars.
For me, I really just want to spend the least amount of time in the chair and have the least amount of work done to still have a healthy smile, for the least amount of money. So for me, Dr. Canfield and his staff get a full 5 stars.
