US Bank Branch is located inside, fyi for those who bank there. This Smith’s market is the closest market to my AirBnB rental while I am vacationing in freezing cold Salt Lake City. My husband and I have been to this market a few times now to stock up on some bottled water(by the gallon), canned soups(sadly the cold does not agree with our bodies and need some chicken noodle soup to nurse us back to health) and some fruit(yay to added fiber in the diet). This market is part of the Kroger family and so my husband was able to use his club card(we have a Ralph’s market back at home) to take advantage of the current sales circular discounts. Service was pretty average for the most part. Layout is similar to the other Smith’s that we had visited and also similar to the Ralph’s market back at home. Plenty of parking. There is also 2 Redbox kiosk machines located outside the store.

Time for an update. The store has been remodeled and is now a bit more inviting. The produce and deli area saw the most improvement. One cool thing is in late August they set up a chile roaster out front. For aprox $ 15 you can get a whole box of roasted Hatch chilies. These make the best chile verde. My one complaint is the entry way. It’s entirely too small. When it’s busy you almost have to queue up in line to get in.

If you ever want a clear example of «institutional racism,» be sure to visit this Smith’s, followed by one of their stores on the east side of the city. Same exact chain, owned and run by the same exact company, but you will see a noticeable difference in quality and service between the two stores. Note especially how Smith’s on the west side are lacking in the healthy options found on the east side. You can very visibly see how the company cares less about its customers there.

Admittedly, I have not historically enjoyed shopping inside, much like the one on 4500 S. and 900 E., but they do, also like that other one, have gas pumps, which I find to be quite handy. There is also the usual snacky stuff at the pumps, which is useful as well. This one, the one I mentioned earlier and the one at around 3800 S. and Redwood all share that similarity, wherein their one saving grace is the pumps. Now it has been some time since I have actually been in this particular store and given some of the comments, perhaps things have changed. I didn’t have occasion to go in and so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. This location is also the first time I saw a police station inside a Smith’s, so there’s that…

Pretty good selection for how small the store is in comparison to the newer grocery stores that are around. I wish the international section had more than a bunch of mexican and a few shelves for Asian food, but it’s catering to the neighborhood. It isn’t flashy at all like most of the Smith’s who carry sushi and whatever, but for a smaller neighborhood store, it does the job. The staff isn’t too helpful, but that’s not a big deal.

This is a very friendly grocery store. All the employees seem to go out of their way to help in whatever way they can. They carry a good stock of items on a regular basis but if you find they don’t ha e what you are looking for they will help you to get it. This is the grocery store I recommend for the Rose Park area. The most friendly and the best prices and sales.

I just moved to the west side, and this is my new local Smith’s, mere blocks from my dwelling. While I’m somehow convinced nothing is as good as my precious downtown Smith’s Marketplace(I shopped there for like nine years, so you know), this place does the trick. It has all the good I know and love at decent prices, and it seems to be organized a bit more intuitively than my former spot. A few things I’ll miss: – a devoted meat and seafood counter. They usually have the things I want here in the relative quantities I want them, but I will miss picking out exactly what I want. – Boar’s Head meats. They only have Private Selection at the deli here, which honestly is just as good, but it just means less variety for my sandwiches. But if I want the wonders of habenero ham, jerk turkey, etc., I can just go downtown. – An organic food section, cuz I’m a goddamn hippie like that – Being able to do my clothes shopping and grocery shopping at the same time. But, again, I can just go downtown. It’s not that far. Overall, it’s a nice neighborhood grocery store with a good selection. I’ll take it.

While looking for a few items in the late evening, it appears that a number of Salt Lake stores close fairly early. But I offer Smiths as a grocery store that is open to at least midnight on a week night. This location is a decent sized store and has the usual variety and selection that you’d expect from a large chain grocery store. The one interesting highlight is that they had closed all the regular check out lines and were self-check only. The toothpaste that I had forgotten on the flight was only $ 0.99 here.
