Had a wonderful experience! They make you order an entrée, per utah law. I had the Hummus sandwich and the mid mountain ale. I highly recommed. Vegetarian friendly and the service was worth tipping 20%.

The Sage Saison really is worth talking about. Delicious, and I feel it would be amazing with some Italian food. What I thought was hilarious is the space that is allocated for a brewery in Utah is the size of a walk in closet. I went there with 7 women for a bite to eat and some Epic Beer. We took up the whole brewery and when other men stepped into the brewery they immediately left when they saw that we filled the whole space. Hopefully they can make it bigger soon. Watch out for the Peach and Cherry ciders as well. 11%… got tipsy quickly, which was surprize. Great time overall and I’m going to try out their brewery in Colorado.

Best damm beer. I love going here and stocking up on beer for when the Utah apocalypse happens. When everyone else is making their cakes and eating rice. I’m going to be wheeling and dealing Epic beer! The big bad baptist and double skull are my two favs. Like whoo that stuff is legal in Utah??? Also at one point they have a beer call Elder Brett with a LDS missionary on it! Way to poke fun at Utah Epic!!!

This place ROCKS! This is my first time to this location, I usually frequent the Annex. I went to go pick up a case of my favorite beer while I am in town to only realize the Annex wasn’t open yet, so I trucked down here and had a wonderful time. Not only did I get to see some of the vats where they make the beer, I got to check out their cute tap room and menu, as well as talk beer with the very knowledgeable staff! I prefer to pick up my case directly from Epic, as the prices at the liquor stores seem to be a bit«elevated»(see the picture and you’ll get the joke later). I can’t wait to come pick up a few more cases when I am in town in December!

Came to this brewery on our trip to Utah because of all of the great reviews! Loved the small tasting room. Ben poured us many samples of their delicious brews and was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all of the beers. Loved the smoked porter and the pumpkin imperial porter and the 24oz bottles to go were very reasonably priced. I only wish I could’ve gotten more Bottles of the beer but only so many can be drank before I get back on the plane :(Our sandwiches were made right in front of use and had very fresh ingredients. Such a lovely experience and so pleased we came here while in Salt Lake City!

When a business says they’re open until 9. A customer expects to be able to conduct business until that time. Today customers use Unilocal and related social media apps to locate businesses. So after walking 30 minutes from downtown, and arriving at 845, I was greatly disappointed to learn that Utah law requires sales to stop at 830. So they’re not really«open» until 9. Change the hours on Unilocal and other places to reflect this. Visitors like me can’t be expected to know all the silly laws. And salt lake downturn can certainly use the business we provide. If I’d seen 830 as closing, I’d have headed over to squatters which was much closer. Sidebar comment: closing at 9 seemed crazy too but I hustled down after my meetings were over to try to sample epics offerings. Went to the bayou instead since they were open

Just an update to say that we’ve now eaten«entrees»(ie: sandwiches) here a couple more times, and they’re consistently excellent. I never expect much from the young guys behind the counter with their tiny fridge and meat slicer, but every single time I’m impressed. My BLT is always perfection, and the sandwich with Italian meats is especially good when you take the chef’s suggestion and add hot peppers. I still can’t go up to five stars because of the sometime difficulty getting a seat, and the fact that there isn’t beer on tap. This is by NOMEANS Epic’s fault, but I’m still not used to walking into what looks like a tap room and only getting bottled beer. As a homebrewing beer snob, I actually don’t think this makes much difference in the flavor of the beer, but it does make a difference in the atmosphere of the taproom. I almost forgot to mention the beer itself. We love Epic. Their Utah Sage Saison and their Brainless Belgian IPA are usually in our fridge. I haven’t tasted a single beer from them that I didn’t at least find interesting in a good way, and I usually love what they offer. This is a brewery that would be a stand-out for me even when I lived in Austin surrounded by breweries. I’m shocked to see anyone say that Epic isn’t «keeping up» with other Utah breweries; as far as I’ve seen, they’re definitely one of the leaders in this state. Uinta, Squatters, Wasatch, 2Row, and Red Rock all produce excellent beers, but I haven’t had anything from them to rival my two favorites from Epic.

Great new brewery offering $.40 beer tastings and all kinds of sandwiches. The tasting room is very small with only 4 bar stools, but they have a larger retail room. They also have a location in Denver. You do have to order food if you want to taste or order a beer so some people walked out because of this. The staff was friendly, but should be more knowledgable about their beer. All in all, this is a cool little place to stop by and try some freshly brewed beer.

There was a point in time in Utah when Epic was doing something no other local brewery was doing. This is, brewing beer above 4%abv that could only be served by the bottle in bars and restaurants or sold in the state run liquor store. Times have changed. There are many new breweries now and the ones that were around before Epic have started making a number of greater than 4%abv beers. In my opinion Epic hasn’t kept up. I still drink their beers on occasion but I certainly no longer praise them to friends and family like I once did. The biggest turn off for me has been dealing with the staff at the Epic store. I don’t know who it is in that organization that has given the employees the notion that they are vastly superior to their customers, but it is an attitude that seems to have permeated their entire organization. My first visit to the store I was selecting several beers and noticed the empty boxes near the fridge. I figured they were for customers use but decided to ask the clerk a few feet away. I got an eye roll, a scoff and an annoyed«yeah» as my response. Thanks, a simple«yes» would have worked, but that’s just not their style at Epic. The guy running a cash register was clearly way too cool. To anyone visiting Utah, there are a lot of options out there these days. Give Squatters, Wasatch or Uintah a try. Or Red Rock, or 2Row, or Bohemian, or Shades of Pale, and on and on.

I’m so obsessed with their Saisons. Their Sour Apple Saison is my ultimate favorite. Then the Straight Up Saison. Then last but not least the Sage Saison. I came here for a beer tasting after I had already eaten lunch. My mistake! According to Utah laws, I need to purchase food with my drink. So I had to eat a second lunch. No biggie. Haha. The beer tasting room has 6 seats or so. We had 2 bartenders, one was preparing the food and the other was filling the drink requests. After all was eaten, I bought the three Saisons for myself. Or so I thought. Or so I thought my mind was 100% lucid. When I came home, I realized I bought two Saisons and one gluten-free beer. Haha. It turned out the gluten-free beer was pretty decent too. Anyway, so far I think this is my favorite Utah brewery. Check it out!

The beer: YES. The rest of the place: MEH. 3 star average. Been big fans of Epic beers for a couple years now, and thought it would be cool to check the place out while we were in town. We arrived at 11:00 on a Friday and, knowing the Utah alcohol laws might be different than we’re used to, immediately asked what the rules were. The man in the front shop told us sit at the little bar in back, you have to get food, bartender will get your beers, kids are ok. Awesome. Head to the bar(which is literally just 4 stools in the hallway where workers are constantly passing through). We ordered a grilled cheese and a meat & cheese tray and a couple beers.(Side note: $ 3 – 6 for a pint and .40 for a taster. Amazing prices.) Start sipping on our beers while waiting for the food and the bartender/cook/waitress informs us whoops, you actually can’t have beer until 11:30. We stare at her, wondering what we should do. Pound them? Come back later? Promise not to drink until 11:30? She finally proposes that she’ll keep them behind the bar for us for the next 30 minutes. Yes, including my 2oz taster. I guess it was lucky after all, because it took almost that much time for our sandwich and cheese/meat tray to come out. For the original choice of 2 cheeses on the grilled cheese, they were out of one. For our meat and cheese board, they were out of 1 cheese and 1 meat. It was literally sliced deli meat and deli cheese. I get it — the focus is on the beer and the food is just to stay within the law. Works for me, but maybe it shouldn’t be $ 9.50 for a quarter-pound of deli meat/cheese. But the real reason we came: the beer. It was great. Big selection of pours in back, big selection of bottles in front. Great prices. Bottom line: come here to pick up some beers to go. If you want to hang out, go by their«annex.»

Rolled into town and wanted to try a local IPA. Sat down in the snack eating area and ordered a tuna melt and an IPA. While the guy was making the sandwich I noticed that he was touching lots of other stuff and left the kitchen several times with the gloves on. While enjoying the IPA I started reading the reviews and found a very recent one from Xania W. Who had a similar experience regarding cross contaminating her food. Sandwich came out and it was not amazing, must see the pic to truly appreciate what I got! Tuna and cheese was still cold in the middle and it just a sandwich– not pickle, chips or frills. Beer was pretty tasty but I won’t eat in there again.

Utah has some real weird liquor laws. So, oddly, despite this being a legitimate brewery, their beer were served from bottles. Really. Weird. The beer bottles had rubber toppers. I’m not totally convinced that helps keep the beer fresh. On top of that, we could only have 2 tiny tasters per person at a time with the purchase of an entrée. We had the spicy chicken wings and the cheese/meat/fruit plate. The taproom was very small and only had seats for 6 people. Our bartender was the best! He was super knowledgable and made us feel very welcome. The food was okay, but the beer was interesting. The kitchen is very limited so there’s only so much that could be done. The tasters were cheap. The Utah Sage saison was my favorite. The mid mountain mile ale and rompin’ rye were pretty good. The smoked porter lived up to the smoke. The sour apple saison was much too sweet. The Brainless on Raspberries was like cough syrup. The Brainless on Cherries was actually more mild and I liked that more.

Found in a semi-industrial part of town, if you do not look for it, you will drive right by the brewery. It took me a while to comprehend, but Utah has unique liquor laws that I will probably mis-state. In no particular order:(1) draft beer must not exceed 3.2% in alcohol content, thus there is no flavor;(2) bottled beer can be full strength;(3) in order to serve beer, food must also be ordered;(4) only two glasses(if tasting) can be ordered at any given time. Others have commented, as you walk into the brewery, right in front of you is a cooler with all of Epic’s nectar of life, beer. Off to the right is a small kitchen area with five/six bar stools where you can sit, order food so that you can also order some real beer. I was not there for the food, but more for the beer so ordered a simple sandwich so that I could order samples(which they charge $ 0.50 each). I tried two samples, the Hopulent and Copper Cone Pale Ale. Ben, the cook, poured my choice, a 0.33l glass of Hopulent — an excellent IPA and very flavorful elixir with body, malt, very hoppy. I liked it so much that as I left the brewery, I picked up a bottle of the hobby beer that I enjoyed later. Yum!

My friend and I were due for a catch up, so we needed to find a place we could sit down and talk at over drinks. Being the workaholic he is, we needed to find something of good quality and opened later than the other breweries. Unilocal led us to the Epic Brewing Company! Upon arrival, I was greeted by a nice big fridge full of beers galore… all of which I shamelessly ordered to-go to try on a weekend night. I was a bit taken away by the beautiful view of the beers being made from the outside. I love going to breweries for that experience(it’s definitely influenced by my winery days). Anywho, we were quickly told to find a seat on the side where the«bar» was. Upon sitting, we were told we needed to order food in order to get alcohol(oh, Utah). They only let you order 1 full beer, 1 full beer + 1 sample, or 2 samples at a time per person. There is nothing on draft, which means higher ABV! The same dude who pops the beer bottles also makes/serves the food. It did get a bit slow at times, but it wasn’t too bad because there are only about 5 seats. He talked to us the whole time and was really relaxing. It’s a unique chill place, and I’ll definitely come back. I’d recommend this place for 1 – 2 people tops. With the limited seating if there were people waiting, it’d be a while. Food: We got the Italian Trio(~$ 8) and meat & cheese platter(~$ 9). The Italian trio was piping hot with a crispy toasted crust, soft bread core with hot oozing cheese & meat with every bite. The meat & cheese were great cold cuts and complemented the beers well. Food is good for what it is, but I wouldn’t make efforts to order this if it wasn’t for the Utah beer + food law. Beers: Santa Cruz Brown Ale [6.40% ABV]: Dark mahogany color with a few mm of white head that diminished quickly into a thin lacing. It was medium bodied with good carbonation. Aroma was hoppy with some floral aromas and hints of toasted malt and black pepper. Taste was hoppy from start to finish with some malt and light molasses sweetness. Even though this was meant to be a hoppy brown ale, I wished the hops wasn’t quite as overbearing because it made it difficult to really taste the other flavors. I’m usually a hops gal, but for this particular brown ale, part of me wishes there was a different balance. Baptist Imperial Stout [11.80% ABV]: Pitch black color with a cm of tan foam that slowly turned into a thick lacing around the sides of the glass. It was thick bodied with average carbonation. The aroma was strong, rich, and dark with a mix between coffee and roasted malt with hints of a sweeter caramel, chocolate, and earth. Taste started with a roasted malt and coffee – the coffee goes straight to the nasal cavity for that big WOW and stays throughout the drink, which the roasted malt diminished. With every sip, there is a growing caramel and vanilla taste. This was my favorite of the bunch I tried here, and I’d highly recommend this beer if you like coffee & alcohol. Sour Apple Saisson [8.10% ABV]: Bright yet hazy golden color with half a cm of white head that diminished quickly into bubbles and no lacing. It was light bodied with good carbonation and grows dry. Aroma was toasted grain, fruity, apple tart, and sugar cane. Taste was sour with a distinct sour apple to start and grew to be sweeter and more herby. from start to finish with some malt and light molasses sweetness. This wasn’t quite my type of beer, but I know of a few gals who’d probably love this(especially if you’re an earl gray gal). Interesting brew and would recommend to sour lovers. Hopulent IPA [8.40% ABV]: Warm golden color with a few mm of white head that diminished quickly into a thin lacing. It was medium bodied with good carbonation. Aroma was slight with some citrus and definite hops. Taste was citrusy and reminded me of sweet orange marmalade jam. If you like sweet citrus, you’ll probably like this. If you prefer drier beers, you may want to avoid this one. Spiral Jetty [6.60% ABV]: This IPA was a slight cloudy amber color with two cm of off white head that diminished slowly into a thick foamy lacing. It was medium bodied with good carbonation. Aroma was malty and hoppy. Taste was hoppy, minty, and herby with hints of slight citrus. It was a refreshing and somewhat dry beer. Pfeifferhorn [5.30% ABV]: This pale lager was pretty standard. It was a clear yellow color with a few mm of white head that diminished quickly into a thin lacing. It was light bodied with a lot of carbonation. Aroma was malty with hints of sweetness, wheat, and earth. Taste was malty. I’d recommend this for people who like light beers or just a standard American pale lager. Tip: CASHTIPSONLY! Make sure to bring cash for tips. They accept cards, but only for the meals/drinks.

As a recent transplant to SLC from Eastern Canada, I was happy to find Epic — since Utah’s liquour laws are pretty insane. Garbage 3.2% beer all over the place. So, needless to say — Epic was a welcoming discovery. Some of the best beer I have ever had in my life — and I am pretty fussy/critical. Wonderful stuff. Spiral Jetty and la Sage Saison are my faves. Elder Brett, Captain Crompton, — the list goes on.

Spiral Jetty, Brainless Belgian and Cherries are my favorites. I love the handcrafted, small run production aspect to this artisan craft brewery. The people behind this place are incredibly passionate and amazingly fun. I highly recommend a tasting and a tour!

You had me at BEER! I stopped in here on a business trip for work based on the Unilocal Reviews. The beer did not disappoint. When i got there, I was was the only one there besides the bartender /chef. The beer was awesome, and that’s coming from someone who was born and raised in the land of beer, cheese and brats, aka Wisconsin. I can’t wait for their brew to make its way on to the shelves of the establishments in Milwaukee. Be prepared, the serving area of the brewery has only 6 seats. Let’s just call it «intimate.»

I truly had an ‘epic’ experience. After reading all the positive Unilocal reviews I had to see for myself. I came in around 1:30 on a Monday and I assumed one of the 6 seats they have in the tasting room, where they also serve lunch. At first, I was the only person there, so the beermeister(Chris P.) provided excellent overviews of my drinking options — DUDEKNOWSHISBEERS! Over the next 90 minutes the tasting room filled to capacity, and it was a completely stellar gathering of people. We had a blast talking about beer, food, and life. The beer process is interesting, they have small tasters, and also normal size glasses. In the end, I had a big smile(nice buzz), and enjoyed a good sandwich, all for about $ 15. I had a chance to try several different IPA rendetions, all were good, it is a matter of what your pallet likes. I also had a goat cheese sandwhich was was excellent. The Epic beers were really good, and the friendly service make this a must visit location. I’ve since gone out and found their beer at Total Wines & More, here in California where I live. Chris P. even professionally extended business cards for a cab service. First rate brewery, which is a MUST for anyone who likes beer and small social settings.
