We went after soccer and found the restraunt closed for good. Their website confirms it. Check for yourself before driving out with family!

This about the third time I have eaten here, every time I am in Salem this is the place to go. Great food and decent pricing… today’s fish sandwich was awesome.

We stopped into the Skyline Diner over the weekend while I was visiting family in Ohio. I’ll admit my expectations were a bit low when we pulled into the parking lot, but, when we pulled back onto the road an hour later, I had completely changed my opinion. The diner is located an old aircraft hangar right next to a small craft runway, which was pretty cool to start with. The interior is decorated with large model airplanes and other various flight paraphernalia, which gave the large, potentially cold space a burst of warmth, color, and intimacy. Despite the structure, the acoustics inside the restaurant were superb. My dad has hearing difficulties, so large, echoing spaces can be an obstacle to him enjoying conversations. We had no trouble maintaining a normal conversational flow and, even though the diner was fairly packed, there were no issues with overhearing personal discussions from nearby tables. The menu, upon initial review, is pretty simple and unoriginal. However, all of our food(my mom and I had Reubens, my friend had a grilled ham & cheese, and my dad had a turkey club platter) was incredibly delicious. The sauerkraut on my sandwich was flavorful and had a great texture that complemented the perfectly-grilled rye bread. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my meal, given its straightforward presentation and less-than-original construction. It proves that food doesn’t have to be overly complicated to be flawless. The prices accompanying the food were also more than reasonable. Our server was fantastic. After my dad mentioned how much he enjoyed the cole slaw(which was vinegar-based instead of swimming in disgusting mayonnaise), she brought him out an entire container to take home with him. She was diligent in refilling our coffee and drinks without being over-zealous in checking on us, all while being kind, hospitable, and welcoming. If the weather was nicer, we would have been able to watch planes take off and land on the runway outside the large windows that line one wall of the restaurant. There’s a «Hundred Dollar Hamburger» on the menu that includes not only a burger, but a plane ride, as well, which tied the food, dining theme, and the runway outside together perfectly. Despite the restaurant offering a dinner menu, they close very early(around 3pm) and are not open on Thursdays. I hope that, if I go back to the area, I can swing another lunch visit, because this is definitely a place I want to visit again!

Great food. Family run place with beef raised on their own farm. Had the cheeseburger with hand cut fries. Very good. Also have had their hot roast beef sandwich Breakfast is also good. It is fun to watch the small planes take off and land while eating. The pies are homemade. And the owner always has time to stop by and chat
