Bringing up the status quo in downtown Salem! Quality food, chic atmosphere, and breakfast! This is a perfect addition to the downtown restaurant scene.

The Eggs Benedict was incredible! It’s easy to mess up the hollandaise and I’m a tough critic when it comes to it. Theirs was fantastic! And it’s served on some sort of corn bread… wow!

Very busy on a Sunday afternoon so we opted to sit outside on one of the rustic picnic benches and the server placed us on the end next to another party already sitting at the table. We waited and waited and waited to get our food and we were finally told that the kitchen had misplaced our order and it would promptly be out because they were working on the final touches. It had already been half an hour from ordering at that point. We would have left, except eating options are limited in Salem on Sunday and we were starving. Ten minutes later our food finally arrived and my plate had fries on it instead of the side salad I had ordered… so I had to wait further for that. and then the server forgot to bring me utensils. and then we didn’t have napkins… see the trend? The fries on both our plates were brown, crunchy hard, and dripping with grease. Ugh. I looked around and every plate around us, no matter what they ordered, had a pool of grease on the bottom. It’s one thing to go to a greasy dive where you might expect something like this, but not when you are paying $ 12 for a sandwich and fries. My side salad consisted of a very small bowl of greens with a few shreds of carrot and two quarters of a small tomato. There are only three options available for dressing… blue cheese, ranch, and a generic vinaigrette. My sandwich was decent, if unremarkable, except that as my meal progressed it became soggy from all the grease on the plate from the fries. Probably my least favorite dining experience in Salem.

It’s too bad the owner will not read this, as it wouldn’t appear he has responded to a single review. When this place was in its infancy I was super excited. The feel of it is trendy but casual; the white subway tile lining one wall, the glass behind the bar, the glass front, and industrial light fixtures are nice touches. The menu, on the other hand, is a mess. Early on, it was small, a single sheet of paper you to choose from, now you are handed a monstrous menu in an ugly plastic cover. Menu items are scattered, as is some of the descriptive content. To some reading this it may seem a bit OCD but if you ever go there, you will see what I mean. I like a clean looking menu with consistent formatting, one with items arranged in a nice left to right fashion(not centered, unless you have a small menu) with discrete icons(campfires? WTF). It’s weird and makes deciding what you want to eat cumbersome. Give me an electronic copy I will fix that shit. Once you have flipped through the headache inducing, encyclopedic menu you might have picked a winner. Some food is on point, others not so much. In the beginning, most items were done well, sans the fried green tomatoes. Perhaps it was the fact that the corn meal was too thick and therefore did not soften when cooked, it tore up the roof of my mouth. The calamari, which was forgotten as an app and came out when desert should have, was fabulous. I’ve also had the lamb burger, catfish tacos, shredded pork and Cuban sandwiches, meatloaf, and a scramble. Many of these items have been good, not out-of-this-world but solid, albeit at a price point too high to justify the small portion sizes and necessitating needing to eat at home. I’m liking the breakfast options, however if I can get to WOM that’s still where I will go. For lunch and dinner there are so many options anyone in your party can get what they want. It’s now open 24hrs which is perfect, since Salem dies on Sundays and on most days of the week nothing is open past 9pm. There is also outdoor seating, another perk for sunny days, however it’s too bad the tables can’t be pushed up against the building. I love having a car’s bumper inches from my back. Not exactly my favorite place but it’s decent. Clean up the menu, change price points and perhaps with time it will get even better.

I was super excited to try this pricey, late night gem! Starting at around $ 12 a plate, this would be a special treat! Service was exceptional considering it was pre-dawn! Food was mediocre at best, super small portion for a $ 12 biscuit & gravy! One biscuit? Come on you guys! And so bland… Massive bummer!

Came here for the first time with my girlfriend today and I really liked it. Can’t believe they’re open 24⁄7 that’s crazy. I like the atmosphere, feels relaxed. Only thing is I don’t really like the tiny cups. Their burgers are a good big size too, not those tiny McDonald’s size burgers.

Its our first time here and it’s 10PM. I ordered the shredded pork sandwich with fries and my friend had the chicken fried steak. We are both more than happy with our choices and their huge menu leaves us wanting to return ASAP to try more items! The waiter was really friendly and polite! The ambience is loud with kitchen noises. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend!

Open 24⁄7!!! Very friendly staff, excellent service. The waitresses were adorable today, singing and dancing to the music(great music, too). How lovely to eat in a joyous atmosphere! I don’t know if this happens often, as this is our first time here. Five stars for the staff! Food is decent, the special was Chocolate and Walnut Pancakes, definitely chocolatey.

If you’re needing to treat yourself to a special meal in a cozy environment and indulge a little this place is for you! Bacon Mac N Cheese, burgers with hand cut shoe string fries, and the PB&J milkshake were all expertly crafted. Great service, quality food, and did I mention homemade tortillas? This place has it all.

From a tip from a friend, we stopped in to The Kitchen for the first time last night after a day of moving and repairing furniture. We were feeling grungy and wanted some good food and beer. There was a 20 minute wait for a table, but we were happy with our booth in the back. I drank a Santiam Ecotopia IPA, which was excellent, while we read the diverse menu. We ordered the New Orleans prawns and creamy grits in a spicy sauce, and a Cuban sandwich. Here’s where The Kitchen earns their 5-star review: It took a while for our food to arrive, however we were enjoying the vibe and the beer and we were not concerned, just chalked it up to a busy Friday night at a very popular restaurant. Eventually, our server appeared with chips and salsa(un-ordered), and informed us that our order had been temporarily misplaced. She apologized profusely, and said we’d be getting free chips and salsa and desserts. She proactively chose to fix a potentially bad situation. I know kitchens get hectic on busy nights, but the fact that they went out of their way to make things right says they care. Our food arrived very shortly after the appetizer. I can see why the prawns and grits are one of their signature dishes, it’s fantastic. I’m not familiar with the New Orleans original, but their spicy sauce with the smooth, creamy grits on top, crowned by large prawns, is really great. The Cuban sandwich was equally tasty and high quality food. Both desserts were wonderful: warm apple-packed cobbler a la mode, and a flourless chocolate hazelnut cake. The cobbler was huge. We took the cake home and enjoyed it this morning. We’ll definitely be back soon.

This is one of those places I always keep passing by, keep meaning in pop in and check out but for whatever reason I never do. So when I did get a chance, I was pleasantly surprised. Menu’s fairly diverse, staff pleasant. With the new hours, Kitchen’s poised to become a good drunk food hot spot– and let’s face it. Omelettes, sandwiches, bacon. All perfect drunk food. Can be a little pricey but food’s hearty. All in all, not a bad place for a quick meal.

I sought this place out as part of Salem’s 2nd Annual«Taco Crawl» on Cinco de Mayo” weekend. And I was glad that I did. During this event, The Kitchen on Court Street was among local vendors creating specialty tacos. I opted for the Chamorro, which was a spicy beef taco, and the Cabeza, a milder pork taco. My guess is that these tacos were of a limited duration, but if their taste and quality is any indication of the rest of the menu, then I’m a big fan of the food here. The meat in both tacos was so tender and delicious. And the Sangria I washed it down with was addicting. It’s not a fancy place; more like a café than a bar or standard restaurant. But don’t let the exterior or the interior fool you. The food and service here are great. I was very impressed by both the hostess and the bartender. I will definitely return to this establishment.

Wow! Not a good wow either. Mothers Day(today) we came in at 820ish. Told them we needed a place for 2 with a highchair. Was told a booth would open up soon. Other people came in and were seated since we were waiting for the booth. Then we were told after about 10 mins that a highchair cannot go at a booth only a booster. I told them she can’t sit in a booster she isn’t even 2. So needless to say we wasted our time, were misinformed and people got seated before us. We didn’t ask for a booth we were offered one by staff then told no highchair. The long sitting table in the front was open. I know it is for larger parties but we could have sat there. Very disappointed especially on Mothers Day. Thanks for stressing out a mom who just wanted a nice breakfast with her family. I think what upset me the most was the server shrugging his shoulders like there was nothing he could do.

Can’t comment on food but service was nonexistent. We came here after a night out around midnight, knowing they were now open 24⁄7. There were only two tables occupied when we got there, which had already been served. We seated ourselves and waited half an hour for the waiter to come take our order. Good thing I had good company to keep me occupied. We got tired of waiting so we left.

I am definitely coming back to The Kitchen. I had the chopped burger with the egg and bacon and it was delicious. I liked a lot the home made bun. I stared at the chef and his assistant for an hour to see how busy and how well they worked together, with a happy attitude, with a full restaurant!

We haven’t had a single bad experience here. Sure, not everything is always a home-run. We ordered the fried green tomatoes once. They aren’t disgusting, but you just shouldn’t make them if you don’t have them mastered. However — this is one of our favorite places in town for breakfast. They have several scrambles that are totally delicious. The green monster sauce is freaking HOT. Be careful. House-made sausage, etc. my favorite is the Texicali omelet or the Tex-Mex scramble. For lunch, try the pork tacos or the lamb burger. Also — if you ever see«meatball soup» on the menu, get it!!! That is the best soup I have ever tasted. We ask for extra sauce, substitutions, etc, and they’re always cool about it. They change up the menu occasionally and always have interesting specials. The staff are so friendly and Bernard is almost always there working alongside his staff and greeting visitors. We keep coming back for the great food and friendly service.

This morning I arrived at the Kitchen with my daughter and her dad for a special Daughter time. Her daddy ordered the Creole skillet and LOVED it. the poached egg needed to be redone, but he thought it tasted amazing with the skillet. He also said the coffee was delicious! My daughter had the 1×1×1 with a cute little pancake face, eggs and bacon, and was pleased. I ordered the veggie scramble without spinach and fresh fruit. We waited a little while(but learned quickly they were short staffed and the staff members truly were doing the best that they could). I believe the service would have been quicker with another staff member. The fruit was wonderful and truly fresh and I respect any kitchen that uses farm fresh, free range eggs. even then, the price for my meal wasn’t that bad($ 11). I’ll go back and try another meal in the future. I dig that they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day as well and they open early! their downtown location is great as well!

Tried the creole skillet and it was really good. The first and jalapeños went really well together Little pricey but good food and well worth it
