Best in the midvalley. Clean, homemade, delicious Mexican food. It’s a «ma and pa» joint. There’s pride of ownership which is reflected in the quality of the food and service. This is the ONLY place in town that makes real chile rellenos, not the omelette-wrapped kind others try to pass as authentic. If you’re not in a hurry, order homemade tortillas with your tacos. Been coming here for years. Never disappoints.

I have gone to this restaurant since before I moved to this part of town. I love good carnitas and have yet to be disappointed with anything– tacos, burritos, sopes, huaraches, tortas– when I’ve gone there. On the rare occasion that they have not had carnitas(usually later i the week), the carne asada or the milanesa has been a satisfying substitute. Prices are very reasonable and I’m usually very full before I can finish the portion. It’s clear from the cleanliness of the place and the friendly demeanor of the owner and his wife that they care very much about this business. The only downside is that the food takes a bit longer to get out than you would expect, so if you’re in a huge hurry, then keep that in mind. Really though, it’s worth the extra time it takes to go there then say the Taco Bell across the street because of the quality and taste of the food you’re getting.

My husband and I stopped in here for lunch on Monday afternoon while our car as getting detailed nearby. He had been to Tacos Del Sur one other time, but this was my first time. I was impressed when we walked in by the cleanliness. The owner was at the counter taking someone’s order and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in. I had a hard time choosing what to eat because everything sounded delicious. Both my husband and I decided on the Carne Asada Burrito. It was HUGE! I thought it tasted really good, and I am honestly not usually a burrito person. I would totally order one again. It was loaded with rice, beans, asada onions and cilantro. We were also guided to a FRESHLY prepared salsa bar as well. As we ate, the place filled up. Everything that was brought out to the other patrons looked amazing and I am looking forward to visiting again. :)

This is the best Mexican taqueria in town. The owner is extremely attentive, friendly and accommodating. The food is superb. The homemade salsas and tortillas are to die for. One huge bonus, it is extremely clean. I’m sorry to read Cyrus’ review but I found out that dad did in fact entrust the business to the ungrateful children who were rude to the customers and didn’t care much about ruining dad’s business. They are gone now and he assured me it was because of what the kids were doing. It is so sad that they don’t have the sense to preserve what their dad has worked so hard for. Rest assured that the problems with the service are gone and this is a GREAT place!

Went for lunch the other day. Got an asada taco, a carnitas taco, a pollo taco,(all $ 1.50) and a horchata. All were as good as I’ve had in Salem. But what gave it the fifth star was the homemade salsas. I tried the green and red ones, which were both hot and the green salsa was great, but the red sauce was amazing! I’ll definitely go there again.

I had an adobado sope which was okay, the base beans and cheese were good, the pork itself was ground and a bit suspect. I also had a taco asada and chorizo. The asada was quite good, wasn’t a big fan of the chorizo because it tasted very much like it was from a kit. Hannah, my vegetarian wife, was disappointed to learn they only serve one vegetarian option, a burrito. Her burrito was 90% red and green pepper, some cheese and rice. She was a bit grumpy. Hannah needed a knife and fork to navigate her lunch so I went to get her a set. I felt bad to interrupt the three family children’s texting as I stood at the counter. They made me feel better about it with their annoyed looks and sending the youngest to help me. She gave me a snarky look and my silverware. This exact scenario played out when I went to refill my soda. I don’t understand what I was doing to bother them so but their attitudes certainly tipped the scales on my ambition to return to Tacos del Sur, I won’t.
