I was not excited at the prospect of delivering my baby at Salem Hospital due to my past dealings with them. Friends told me that I should instead make arrangements with Silverton Hospital, but thanks to insurance requirements that was out of the question. Thankfully I was fortunate enough to have a quick delivery and nurses and doctors with a sense of humor. There’s nothing worse than having health care persons attending to you who act as if they hate their jobs. After the delivery, up in the actual maternity area, I found that the CNA’s were the most cheerful and personable, with the nurses being hit-or-miss. Some were great, and some seemed tired. They were always very helpul and arrived quickly when I requested, though. I found the discharge process to be annoying, but only because the building’s set up does not allow for easy access to vehicles. There is no covered area to protect people from the elements and it’s a short walk from the door to the car waiting zone. It’s also important to note that the maternity parking area only has«doctor only», «ambulance» and«30 minute» parking available. I find it to be terribly inconvenient that the parking garage is the only option for soon-to-be parents. I can only imagine that most mothers would not want to have their husbands leave to go move the car during such a critical point. While I was in the delivery room I inquired about the chances that our car would be towed from the 30 minute area. I was told it wasn’ t a problem, so… yeah. A few days after I arrived home I recieved a thank-you/congratulations card signed by the nurses. I thought that was a nice touch. Would I deliver here again? Of course, because it’s close to my house and I probably wouldn’t have a choice in the future, either.
