heard they’re re-opening…I hope they get the clue this time around… it «was» pretty bad…

Going to the Rockmore is all about the experience. We don’t go for the food, but we’ll come back for the giant Coronas. We don’t have a boat so on a hot summer day this is the next best thing for getting out on the water. Our waitress was super nice, but the food did take a bit long to come out. She kept the beers coming though while we waited. The ladies was broken so I had to use the mens… ew. But I can’t expect too much from a floating barge. Looking forward to visiting again this summer. It’s also a great place to get a tan while you sit and get your drink on.

They got one star for atmosphere, that’s all I can reasonably give the food is so subpar that its not funny — service is exceptionally slow, prices are not good The boat ride over is cool as it builds anticipation, but like a bad movie you end up walking out thinking, I thought it would be so good and it wasn’t

Imagine eating a meal from a baseball park concession stand while floating in a harbor below the shadow of a coal burning power plant. The good news? You don’t have to imagine any longer. The bad news? You don’t have to imagine any longer. This experience exists at The Rockmore in Salem Harbor. It’s a seasonal restaurant and only open in the summer. The only reason to go here is for the boat ride and the experience of eating on a barge. If the waves kick up you could get sea sick. And if that doesn’t get you the food probably will. It is horrible! The service? Marginal(after all, your their captive on this floating slop-house). The view? Not bad if you are into smoke belching industrial landscapes. The food here really is terrible. For example, their idea of a burrito is to take a hamburger patty, grill it like a hamburger, then chop it up and roll it in a cold tortilla with way too much picante sauce(Pace?) and lettuce. Their guacamole sets a new standard in the wrong direction. There is so little avocado in it that it looks like sour cream with green food coloring. The service? Not bad if you ever had fantasies of being invisible. I stood at the bar for over five minutes with the bartender right in front of me. She never raised her head to acknowledge my presence. I was two feet in front of her and she acted like I wasn’t there. When she finally did it took her another five minutes to pour a diet coke. Really unbelievable. The popularity of this place is only explained by the novelty of eating at a floating restaurant. If it was on shore it would only bare your patronage if it was the last place on earth serving food.

I finally made it out here after years of wondering if the Rockmore was a real place. You take a little red boat out(catch it by congress street), and have drinks and food on a little floating bar. Beers were $ 7 so I didn’t love that, but they had a great selection, as well as wine and mixed and frozen drinks. It’s a fun place to take visitors. They take credit cards as well. I think the boat runs every 20 minutes or so.

The Rockmore Company has a floating restaurant in Salem Harbor. You take a small boat from the Congress Street dock to get out there. The food is ok, I usually get chicken fingers and fries or something lilke that. The selection is small, mainly sandwiches, burgers, fries, etc. But I gave it four stars due to the coolness factor. It’s awesome to sit out there and drink(they have a bar) on a beautiful day. Also, if you have a boat, you can call in your order and pick it up on the side of the restaurant. The website is
