I must have missed the pub but the spicy chicken hit the spot. Very nice lady running the joint!

Going to make this accessible to people of all ages. Not going to lie. This place is on point. I’ve been coming here for years and have loved every item I’ve ever gotten.(I’ve gotten many, I’m also really picky and particular). If you’ve been, you know the HBIC is a boss. She is one of the friendliest and most wonderful women I’ve ever met and she hooks it up every time, no fail. Why I’ve never written a Unilocal review? I don’t know. J’s is actually my go-to spot. I’m probably just too distracted and enraptured by the delicious food in front of me to think about Unilocal.Their teriyaki sauce is like nothing else, and their tofu is the best I’ve ever tried! TL;DR: The owners are kind and sociable, the food is always exceptional and perfectly plated, and the vibe is low-key and casual.

I have eaten at J’s at least 30 times in the last three years. It’s less than five minutes from my work. The lady is always nice and friendly every time I come by to pick up my order. It is apparent the business is ran about a few employees, and the owners manage the business. Their teriyaki plate is one of my personal favorites of teriyaki chicken in general. My second favorite menu item is the Lancaster Roll, however its albeit too pricey for the portions provided. I order the Lancaster Roll in light moderation, whereas the teriyaki chicken plate is a regular basis for me. HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHISPLACE!

The owner is such a wonderful person, she remembers her customs and really builds rapport! She know what you like to order! My husband and I always come on and order take out, she offers a seat and water always, when I look cold she gives me hot tea, always something a little extra! Not to mention. The food is wonderful! Best teriyaki in my(Japanese) husbands opinion! Love this place!

Best place in town! Great service and good pricing. The owners are very kind and will go out of their way to make you feel special. The spicy chicken is one of my favorites dishes and they do a great job with portion sizes. Their sushi is also some of the best I’ve had, is recommend the emperor roll. Over all my go to place for great Asian food. Very highly recommended.

This place is in an unassuming strip mall. Only reason we checked it out was because of the Unilocal reviews, otherwise I would have passed this place up just based on visuals. Luckily, we didn’t. It’s a Mom and Pop place, and service was friendly, helpful, and quick. We must have had a «what-do-we order» look, because as the wife/owner was taking a couple of plates of food to another table she said those were the chicken teriyaki and gyoza combo. Guess what we decided to get. The chicken teriyaki and gyoza combo was a good amount of food. We also ordered a pork teriyaki/chicken teriyaki and gyoza combo. The pork teriyaki was GOOD! Very flavorful. The dressing on the side salad was really good. I could have had more salad, because of the dressing. The only downside for food was the yakisoba. The noodles were piled on top of rice, which I thought was a little strange. And a little bland. Teriyaki is where it’s at. If we weren’t travelling through, I’d check them out again.

We stopped here during our travels in Oregon. We were impressed with the solid food and by the super outgoing and friendly hostess! The food was tasty and reasonable. We could see why so many regulars came to get food while we were there. We especially enjoyed the citrus dressing on the salad, and the cucumber salad.

This is the first time I have wanted to write a review! J’s was awesome. Such friendly service and tasty sushi. Thanks for a great dinner and I loved the HGTV and the cute origami dollar bill we received in our change.

You probably shouldn’t go to J’s Teriyaki. Actually, let me rephrase that, I’d really rather you didn’t go to J’s. Where to begin. I have been there no less than half a dozen times and have yet to even have anything less than an A+ experience. The husband/wife co-owners are so friendly and wonderful and provide an unsurpassed level of service. The female half comes out and plays with the kids if she isn’t too busy and typically makes my daughter a special set of chopsticks better suited for kid hands. She kneels down to the kids’ level and always goes out of her way to make each of us feel special. The food is always hot and delicious. The prices are fair and the atmosphere is fresh and fun. The sushi is excellent, the yakisoba is to die for, and my personal favorite, the chicken teriyaki, served here is second to none. So, I’d really love to give this place a bad review to scare off all the newcomers and keep this place all to myself. But I do realize that they may eventually go out of business if I were their sole customer. So I give up, go ahead and go to J’s, just don’t tell anyone and let’s keep Salem’s best kept secret to ourselves. 5 out of 5 potstickers, would definitely recommend.

Typical safe choice for teriyaki. Nothing special, but not bad. I’d eat here again, but it’s not a place in going to quickly suggest with friends. Here’s a few pics that show what you get. $ 7.45 for the chicken teriyaki plate pictured here.

Why have I not been here before??? Probably because it’s out of view, hidden behind a Wendy’s. Too bad as so many people could be missing out only because they didn’t see it! The customer service is so on point. The owners are friendly and funny! They made us feel right at home. I had the spicy chicken teriyaki bowl and loved it. My son had the emperor roll sans salmon, He said it is now his favorite roll he’s eaten in Salem, and that’s saying a lot! We eat sushi at least weekly and we try to get to a different restaurant each time. The restaurant is small, but very clean and the food is delicious. We plan on becoming regulars here!

Well I have been here a few more times since my last review trying different items. I would not change anything from my other review, the service, food, everything is great!!!

Friendly owner and very helpful. We had spicy chicken teriyaki, but it was not spicy is actually kind of had a tomato sauce flavor. The chicken was not grilled it was just sautéed in a wok. It had a touch of propane flavor. We also had the pork teriyaki. Again, the pork was not I grilled it seemed boiled. The salad dressing was good very — it had a carrot/gingerish flavor.

The very best in Salem! The sushi is crafted with care by the husband while the wife provides the most attentive wonderful service. Emperor roll is my favorite roll of all time! I have tried almost every place in Salem and am constantly disappointed and left wishing i had just gone to J’s.

I’ve been here twice now and will be back for more. The spicey chicken teriyaki was really good so the second time I went I had to go a bit off the beaten path and get the yellow curry with chicken. It is really good and will be back for more.

The yakisoba was solid as well. Seaweed and cucumber salad is the best in Salem. Customer service and friendliness of the staff always makes me so happy to be there.

May not have the fastest service around but J’s is defiantly the friendliest place to eat. Come here just once and they will remember your face forever. Very uniform friendly, Military, Police, Fire … Doesn’t matter J’s goes out of its way to show their appreciation. The food is great and with reasonable prices. This is my go to restaurant for lunch, I recommend the chicken katsu with any one of their sushi dishes.

Hmmm… I found this place thanks to the many positive Unilocalings and was ready to find a Teriyaki-glazed diamond in the rough that is Salem, but after my first visit expecting to be wow’d, I was kind of disappointed. Yes, the waitress was really nice, and the food did seem freshly cooked, but the flavor was really lacking. I got the spicy chicken bowl lunch special, so for $ 6+tip you get an oblong to-go carton(about half the size of the full-sized square cartons most places use) ¾ full of rice, and topped with the saucy chicken, onion, red pepper, and cabbage in a sauce that seemed more focused on cranking the capsaicin levels than achieving the right balance between heat spice. As for quantity, I finished all of the meat and 2⁄3 of the rice, but still was left feeling a little hungry and didn’t want to stuff myself on plain rice, so that was a bit of a downer, too. I think it’s pretty average compared to most other Teri joints in PDX(hence the 3 stars), but for all the rave reviews I felt a little let down. Trusting Aaron W. and Chuck B’s, senses, though, I’m willing to try a different dish next time I’m in the area to see if I just hit them on a bad day ***Review #8 in the Unilocal 30 in 30 Challenge!***

As appetizing as all their food looked(thank you, pictures), I went with their Teriyaki Bowl special for $ 4.95. And a huge bonus here to really note: I asked the female cashier(she may have been one of the owners/managers) if I could get spicy chicken teriyaki for the bowl(instead of regular teriyaki). She said it normally costs $ 1 more to get the spicy option, but today, since it was my first visit, it was on the house. Now that is going beyond the call of customer service! I got the food to go, but it looked so damn good when I opened the to-go box that I just noshed away at it in the car. It was very delicious. It was still temperature-hot, meaning it had just been cooking on the stove minutes earlier… super fresh. The mixed vegetables were wonderfully cooked and added amazing color to the dish(heck, I even saw some broccoli in there). The sesame seeds added an little extra appeal for the eyes, but it seemed to get lost in the shuffle here otherwise. I got a nice bit of spice, but nothing overwhelming. I’d say Fuji Rice Time’s spicy chicken still packs more punch. The chicken was juicy and moist. I would have liked just a bit more teriyaki flavor here, but maybe the spice negated some of that. All in all, a very successful dish that I would eat again and again. The rice was also cooked very well and, when mixed with the teriyaki and spicy sauces, really made me one happy panda. Flavor, people! So important! I received a bit more of their house spicy sauce on the side(yup, they gave me more sauce if I wanted it). Good flavor in that as well. I dumped that all over my food after snapping the picture you see above and continued to chow down. Chuck B., a person I know through Unilocal, had reviewed this place last year and had an awful experience. He then went back(on the request of another Unilocaler) a month ago and gave it rave reviews. Chuck mentioned that new management was the reason for the turnaround. I can confirm that with the extremely friendly service I received on my visit. Just a great place to go. It’s a bit of a shame that the place is a bit hidden behind a Wendy’s; otherwise they would be getting far more customers. But hey, go check out J’s Teriyaki & Pub for yourself! (It’s really four stars on Unilocal for the food, but I’ll bump it up to five for the wonderful customer service.)
