No frills just simple good Mexican food. Attentive service they came right away with waters, chips, salsa, and beans. Good size portions, plenty of options. No complaints expect I didn’t like the lemonade they switched my out to sprite with no problem. Chicken Grande burrito was bomb!

Food is unimpressive and too $$. Why bother going in? Don’t confuse with the market, which is primo!

Let me start off by stating that the food was average. And I would say that at the time of our visit, the service was very good. The reason for the negative review is that Chula Vista would not honor the coupon that I purchased. The waitress told me that«they»(meaning management and/or owners) had decided not to honor the coupons because they were outdated. Guess what? These coupons have NOEXPIRATIONDATE. That means they have to honor them(I even verified this with ). These coupons act as a good faith contract. I buy a coupon, you honor it. Pretty simple really. So a friend helped me out by calling the restaurant repeatedly to speak the the owner or manager, Jesus, about the issue. She was never able to reach him, even when he was supposed to be there… not very Christlike. Maybe he should change his name to Judas? She then took up the issue with via several emails and finally was able to get that organization to reimburse me for the full value of the coupon. What a great friend! So the long and short of it is this: if you like average Mexican food and don’t have any coupons, dine at your own risk. If you like excellent Mexican food and have any type of coupon, think twice. There are lots of great Mexican restaurants around the area that would be happy to have your business. Support them!

Comes with free Chips, Salsa and bean dip. The salsa is really good, one of my favorites in a restaurant. I had the Vista Nacho’s(I think that was what it was called). Very good imo. Overall I was very pleased with the food.

I honestly don’t know why people like this restaurant. I’ve eaten LOTS of Mexican food in my time and this place is definitely sub-par. Especially in Salem where we have Mexican food coming out our ears…

This place may feature a lot of variety, but there is nothing that sticks out about this restaurant that is worth mentioning. The prices, the food, the service, the décor, and the intangibles are all so typical that the only thing different about the restaurant is its name. The location itself is marred by the fact there is a barrier in the middle of State street, prevents people from driving to the parking lot. The service was okay and the prices were roughly the same, which there is nothing unique about it(no deals, service not exceptional). I liked it more when it was still Shum’s Chinese Restaurant.

Authentic Chili Rellenos. Made with a fresh chili, not a floppy canned one. So good! All the Mexican restaurants in Salem serve pretty much the same food, but Chula Vista’s Chili Relleno is refreshingly different. Muy sabroso. They just redecorated, so they’re looking good and the staff are very friendly.
