Was in St Pete and got caught in the rain… Thankfully Five Guys was right there & I was hungry. The place was clean, had fun music playing, & friendly staff. I ordered a burger with lettuce & tomato, a side of fries, & a soda. The burger reminded me of Steak n’ Shake burgers. Two thin, albeit all beef fresh patties. It was edible and I was hungry. I’m not a fan of Steak n’ Shake, and now I’m not a fan of Five Guys. They did give a very generous portion of fresh cut french fries. I wish they would have cooked them just a little bit longer, making them a tad more crispy The free peanuts I didn’t even take a second glance at. For the price & taste… I’ll pass next time and hit the Greek place down the street a bit. I should have had a Gyro…

Heard a lot of really great things about this chain, went in with high hopes. They get an A for freshness, and quantity, a B for quality and taste, a C for prices. I probably did not order the right thing, but I have to say the fries were really great.

I’ll be straight up: they make a pretty good burger. Toppings galore, nice crispy fries, and free peanuts, too(though the various peanut allergy warning signs and the prohibition on taking them outside the store give me the jimmies about eating them). The dining area’s clean enough and the service is quick. Full disclosure: I spent the last two years living in Southern California, subject to the delightful excesses of In-n-Out burger. No, it’s not the best burger ever made(it’s not stuffed with boursain cheese, for one), but it’s the reigning champ of fast food. All future experiences with quickly made burgers will be forced to measure up; Five Guys doesn’t quite. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. A ticket to San Diego on a week’s notice costs in the neighborhood of $ 400. A ticket to Phoenix, In-n-Out’s eastern reach, is around $ 250. A bike ride to Five Guys is free, and the burger, drink, and large fries is $ 10. Compromise is a bitch, but sometimes it’s the only way to a greasily delicious lunch.
