The fried chicken is all I ever get but it is hot and crispy. On Sundays us plant workers grab an eight piece bag of dark meat for only $ 5. It’s packed during lunch time so go early. It’s a take out only place since it’s also a gas station. But if you want some good fried foods in a hurry then do as the locals do and pop in and go.

25 years ago, a Popingo’s opened in Napoleonville. Yes, this is a gas station, a fuel stop, a service station as my grandparents say, but my God can they fry some chicken. Half of the counter is dedicated to this shrine of the fryalated arts: boudin balls, meat pies, spicy cajun fries. It’s an all star menu of what Louisiana is good at frying. They have a ridiculously extensive breakfast menu. I can only imagine how good their biscuits are. There’s also burgers, catfish, poboys, livers & gizzards, shrimp, salads(with fried shrimp or chicken, duh), and a whole lot of lagniappe. But you come here for the fried chicken and oh my is it crispy and glorious. A 4 piece mixed with fries, roll and drink is less than $ 7.
