Ok so where do I start. On June 15th2016 at 730−930pm. My family and I had some friends in town from England and we wanted to show them this awesome brewery restaurant in our backyard.(trailhead brewing company) We get there and everything was going good we ordered drinks and a appetizer. App and beer was good. Then 25 minutes after the app had arrived the server then tells us that they are out of chicken, all steaks, and the some of the entrees. At this time the food runner brings my wife’s entrée, my sister’s entrée, kids food, and my friend’s entrée. Also they didn’t get there salads till there entrée was in front of them for a few minutes. My other friend and I didn’t have any food so we had to order something else. So we order shrimp, and a burger. We asked the manager to come over and fix the situation. The so called manager was either a shift supervisor or a trainee. Because the only think he said was yeah and ok this is not our average Wednesday, and didn’t even apologize for the mess up.(New flash trailhead its summer, it’s hot out and you are the hip trendy brewery in town so your going to be busy everyday) Then we sat there for what seemed like another 30 – 45 waiting for our food. By this time everyone at the table was done eating and the person who is paying the check still didn’t have there food so we told them that we were done if the food is still coming then we want it to go. They comp’d all but the beer, kids food and one entrée. Now I place the blame for this on everyone from the kitchen manager, to the floor manager, to the server. Poor communication, and even poorer execution. Come on trailhead you can do better. Normally I don’t write reviews because I’m a chef in the industry, but I think that after this debacle someone needs to be put on notice.

Terrible experience! Slow service, for sure– we got our appetizer 30 minutes after we ordered it and it came cold. Food was abysmal– mashed potatoes were certainly from a box and the spicy beef tasted like it was frozen and doused in buffalo sauce. The beers are cheap, which merits an extra star, but don’t get too excited because they’re awful. Tried the blonde, the seasonal maiboch, and the raspberry, all of which were mediocre at best. If you’re looking for a nice night out with good food and drinks, go elsewhere.

Great pork and service. Just know that smoking is allowed inside and cut our time here short. But a great environment and the bikes on the wall are fun to look at while you eat.

Just okay. I find that every time I come here it’s either pretty good or pretty bad. I’ve had good service and bad service. Overall I just don’t think it’s my taste but others I go with seem to think the same

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife. We arrived right around 3PM which for a random Monday afternoon meant that the place was dead. The good news is that we were able to head upstairs to the second story bar and watch the Cards home opener. The inside of Trailhead is done with lots of natural colors as some of the walls are brick and there are lots of hardwood floors. The bar that we sat at was stainless steel and had a really pretty wooden canoe above it and a 7 person bicycle hanging up behind it. The building itself is a national historic landmark and judging from the cover of their menu used to be a woolen mill. What is cool is that it still has the water wheel attached to the outside of the building near the creek. Since we weren’t here to eat I ended up ordering the sampler which consisted of all 6 of their beers while my wife went with the raspberry beer. I rather enjoyed most of their beers with their blonde and Amber standing out the most. The Amber was the most surprising in the fact that you could actually smell the Pacific Northwest hops(cascade I think) on it without even drinking it. After I was I was about half way through my sampler my wife and I decided to split some of their half price happy hour appetizers. We ended up ordering the pretzels with queso and then the nachos with smoked chicken. The pretzels were really good and they were somewhat dense and crispy on the outside and then warm and soft on the inside. They also paired quite well with the sweet and spicy grain mustard which I loved. I actually found it to be better than the queso and was somewhat sad that we had payed for the queso. As for the nachos, wow there was a ton of them. The stand out of that dish was the smoked chicken which really had a great flavor. My only suggestion would be to get some other type of sauce besides the refried beans to help them go down a bit easier. Our bartender was on point during our lengthy visit and regularly filled out water glasses and checked to make sure we were ok. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed both their food and beer(especially at the happy hour prices) and found it to be quite the unique place.

Excellent food. I highly recommend the trailhead burger. Their in-house Guinness knockoff is pretty good too.

This place was pretty solid. My raspberry beer was delicious. Lena and I shared a German sausage plate, which had three kinds of sausage, potato salad, and sauerkraut. For a light meal, it was great, and the price was reasonable. Because it was Easter it was completely dead, which I was surprised about. Maybe everyone wanted the classic brunch.

My fiancé and I came for dinner. Their in house beers are really good. I recommend the beer flight to help you decide which is best. The table that we were seated at was small and next to a large party which made conversation more difficult. We waited awhile for the server to come to the table. But the food was good and would try again.

I’m a huge fan of Trailhead! I always have a good meal and I love their beers! I went for lunch today and while the service was a little slow, my food was perfect and so was the beer so it was worth the wait. Try the beer cheese soup, it’s great! Also, my wife and I typically go here for lunch about once a month during the week and the day bartender provides excellent service every time. Extremely consistent. Love Trailhead!

Meh. Overpriced, trying to be something it’s not. I have never been in such a pretentious brewery — and this is St. Charles, Missouri, not the Bay Area or New York City. It was a hot day on a weekend and my boyfriend was wearing a sleeveless shirt. After we ordered and paid for our beer, the bartender brought him a bright orange t-shirt and told him he had to wear it because they have a clothing rule. He had to wear their bright orange t-shirt or leave — AFTER we had already ordered and paid, and tipped. Convenient. I counted three women at the bar wearing tank tops that revealed FAR more than what his muscle arms revealed. Double standard much? By the way, none of your beer was very good. Not worth it. You won’t be getting my money, again.

The service was slow. Our waiters would bring refills but never took the empty glasses. We waited 30 minutes for our food. The food was not good at all. I order the fire grilled ribeye steak. It was paper thin and mostly fat. He didnt write anything down and messed up one of our order. We had empty dishes galore on our table. For the prices I would rather go to Texas roadhouse or lonestar. Not impressed at all for my first time.

I’ve never been to a brewery that wouldn’t fill a personal growler… total Waste of our time! No, I did Not buy one of their growlers. The beer wasn’t that good, guess their policy was a good thing!?!

Beer was alright. Wish they’d experiment with some barrel aging. Selections were boring. Other than the tasty beer cheese soup, the food was terrible. Wife had a cold hamburger with soggy lettuce. My grilled salmon was incredibly over cooked and seemed to be sitting under a heat lamp for way too long. Asparagus was awful. Tasted like it was boiled rather than grilled. How do you screw up asparagus?!? One of the worst meals we’ve had in a while.

This restaurant needs serious help with the hostess, 1st impressions start there!!! I drove 250 miles to spend New Years Eve with family. The 10 of us decided on this restaurant. We arrived at 8:20. There appeared to be 2 hostesses at the desk and what appeared to be 2 of their friends hanging out there. They asked if we wanted a bar table or dining area. We stated we wanted dining as we had children with us. The hostess went upstairs and came back and said we would have to sit at a bar table and immediately said«And just so you know the kitchen closes at 10:00!» I was at the tail end of the group and watched the girl walk back to her friends and roll her eyes and shake her head. I even asked if there was a reason for that and she said no. I honestly believe she was put off because it was New Years and she wanted to run along with her friends! Once we were seated we noticed there was not very many people in the place. People came after us and were seated in the dining areas so we were confused as to why we could not have been seated there. The table was not big enough for 10 so we had to take 2 tables and break up our family meal. The fried portobellos, onion rings and French onion soup were good. I had the grilled chicken with a mango sauce. Thank God for the sauce because the chicken was very dry! I don’t drink beer because I don’t really like it. Of course everyone wants to convert a non-beer lover. I took sips and there was one that was raspberry something and I actually liked it! The best part of the place was our waiter Ziggy! He was absolutely awesome! Funny, attentive, and professional!!! Keep a hold of him! All in all with a bit of tweaking in the kitchen and an overhaul at your front door you have a nice place. I will try it again when I come back to town and will update my review if better!

I’m sad to report this place used to be one of my fave places to eat & drink on Main. The décor & layout is very neat so it’s saddening to me that everytime I go the food & service is going down hill. We went with 2 other couples & nobody enjoyed their meal. And all 6 of us ate different items. The only food items that were enjoyed were onion rings & my friends hubby had a salad that he enjoyed. All the sandwiches that came out came with garnishments of rotten lettuce. One of the burgers didn’t have chipotle mayo on it & when my friend asked the server about it she said didn’t know what was supposed to be on the burger but she would go check. She told her she thought it was a BBQ sauce. The server didn’t know the menu at all. When we ordered she had to double check a lot of things because she was unsure. So when she came back she confirmed to my friend it was the chipotle mayo NOTBBQ sauce(totally not similar) and at that point who cares? If server knows a sauce is suppose to be on it but nothing was on it just get the sauce that the customer is asking for verses making the customer wait to walk away & check to come back & then ask if she wants sauce so she walks away again to get it. I ordered the boiled peel n eat shrimp & for the price I couldn’t believe 6 regular sized shrimp came out! I almost only orders that but glad I got onion rings because I would have left starving ! And the shrimp didn’t taste good in fact I left feeling sick to my stomach & I think it was from the shrimp. Than the server would bring us new drinks but not take away the empty cups so to clear the table we stacked them up at end of table & at one point 7 cups were stacked and sat for 10 minutes! Oh yeah and everybody had fries or onion rings &3 pple had burgers and she didn’t just bring ketchup and mustard to the table. So we had to ask her & she disappeared for a while and came back after almost 5 minutes. I wish we would have complained to her because with all the disappointment in the food & service we shouldn’t have had to pay the price we did. The cooks should know not to put rotten lettuce on 3 plates & the burger should have came with the sauce verses her trying to peel apart the burger to spread it herself. And I only ate 2 shrimp and threw away the rest because it tasted bad too! So disappointed. ! I gave it 2 stars because the atmosphere is still great & our drinks were good. Everything else was a mess!

Not overly impressed. Ordered the salmon and it was dry and tasteless. The asparagus side seemed it it was cooked weeks ago and was wilted. The location and the building were all that I could say were interesting or worth the trip.

It is Christmas Eve, and they’ve called off happy-hour to make more money, so don’t think you’ll get a signature beer for $ 2.50. Also, our waitress managed to bring our drinks on time, but the water we ordered took 20 minutes. It’s been 35 minutes and still no food, not even soup. The place is deserted so I don’t know what’s taking so long…

Not bad, but not stupendous either. We shared 2 appetizers, Peel & Eat Boiled Shrimp and Hot Crab &Artichoke Dip. The cocktail sauce with the shrimp was very horseradishy, which I like. The dip was good and my Bloody Mary was pretty average.

Decided to visit Trailhead today for dinner. I understand it was a very busy time of day. The group I went with decided to grab food and a drink. The service was very disappointing. We waited far too long for our food and the food itself was less than pleasant in quality.

We went here after my good friend’s wedding rehearsal to eat some dinner and celebrate. It was a Wednesday night but the place was quite busy… Probably because of all the Main St holiday stuff and nice weather. We had a reservation at 730 but arrived a bit early. They had us wait downstairs in an empty bar before seating us. It’s a cool setup, the place is like 5 layers — 2 basement, 1 street, and 2 uppers. We were in a basement room right below the street. The good: cool atmosphere, great waitress who was super on top of everything for a group of over 10, fast service. The bad: everything else. The menu had a good selection, but, my food wasn’t the greatest. We started with an order of pretzels. It comes with both the fat sticks and also the traditional looking ones which was weird and a really nasty looking mustard sauce. Cheese dip is an extra $ 2 – 3. Soooo you gotta remember to see that and order it, such a scandal. Should come with it. I much prefer the«beer» cheese style over the queso kind that they serve, but, it’s whatever. I also ordered a thing of nachos with chicken for my meal. They were AWFUL! First off no salsa. Who doesn’t provide salsa on nachos??? The nachos appeared to be baked in the oven after being prepared. This melted the cheese and dried everything out, stealing the last bit of moisture they might have since there’s no salsa! The cheese wasn’t that pretty good queso from the pretzels… Instead it was gross, cheap tasting and stringy like Walmart shredded Cheddar. So gross. The chicken was dry and parched. Some of the chips were burned in the process. It’s like how can you call this nachos? I tried to eat them but couldn’t get more than a few bites in before I was just done. Also of note smoking was allowed somewhere in the building, I could smell cigarette smoke which turned me way off. Overall extremely unimpressed. Only giving two stars because our waitress was fantastic and the pretzels were pretty good. Everything else was def not worth it.

We tried to get reservations a few hours before we went out but we’re told that they were not taking anymore for that night. Our friend wanted to meet us there so we thought we might get lucky with a table, eat at the bar or just have a drink. When we got there we were told we can get a table but that would be over an hour wait. No problem, our friend was running late anyways. The bartender was NOT friendly. They got us a table in 15 minutes. No concept of time at this place. We started with the fried Portabello sticks. They came out quickly. The mushrooms were good but the breading was chewy and bland. Probably because it was not fried at the right temperature. Instead of getting crispy, it ended up soaked with grease. We had to wait over an hour to ger our entrees. I had the turkey and brie sandwich with onions and green apples. Great concept but it ended up just meh, it needed some kind of seasoning or sweetness for a balance with the brie. The apple slices were so thin almost nonexistent, plus they were mushy because they were heated up with the sandwich. Brie is great with crisp green apples, not applesauce. The turkey was nothing special.(For fun, add apricot or raspberry preserves; or candied pecans.) The coleslaw I had was fine, grocery store quality. The building is very interesting and fun to look around. Our waitress was smiley and very friendly. It’s a lively fun place.

Stopped in for lunch today as we have not eaten at this restaurant before. I decided on fish and chips. The batter for the fish had no seasoning, and neither did the fish itself, very bland. The malt vinegar nor the lemon was much help. The cole slaw pretty much comes right out the bag and mixed with a cole slaw dressing. The dressing really had no taste and the French fries were cold. I did not like this dish at all, I’ve had fish n chips at other restaurants in St. Louis, Mo area and this one is pretty much thumbs down. My wife had the turkey with Brie sandwich. It looked as though the turkey meat came right out an Oscar Meyer lunch pack. The meat was still rolled up in the sandwich. The waitress did ask if I wanted something else, and I declined. I will not come back to this restaurant, nor will I advise anyone to eat there. Their are other restaurants which serve great tasting food in St. Charles, Mo in Old Town.

Cannot say enough about how incredible the service was here. My HUGE family came in without a reservation before a wedding reception and basically took over a corner of the bar. Our server/bartender took amazing care of us for over an hour. I want to say the server/bartenders name was Iggy? I apologize if that wasn’t even close. Everyone always had a drink, appetizers came out super fast even though the rest of the restaurant was very crowded. They even granted us a channel change so we could take in the Notre Dame game. I didn’t have anything to eat, but everyone seemed pretty pleased and the beer selection was great. Kudos to Trailhead for running a great restaurant and our server/bartender for being one of the best I’ve ever seen with a big group. Would highly recommend.

My friends chose this destination last Saturday. I have been here a number of times before. It’s always busy(with the decibels to match), it’s a big place with different levels(lots of stairs, fyi), and it has a typical restaurant-and-bar menu. I’m sure they sell a lot of appetizers. Actually, that’s all we ordered: the crab & artichoke dip, stuffed mushrooms and nachos. I wouldn’t rave about any of them but I suppose they were good enough. The portions were huge. The most disappointing of the three was the crab dip: if blindfolded, I would call it artichoke dip. The mushrooms and accompanying sauce were my favorite. The nachos were good and piled high on the plate — I don’t know why restaurants don’t provide appropriate plates to handle the inevitable casualties. Our server did a good job. The only person with us who smoked asked if we could sit in the bar area when we were done eating. I planned to not stay much longer at that point but the ventilation system was apparently so effective, the smoke never even bothered me, which is never the case.

Although I can only comment on the bar, this place is pretty cool! There is a lot of local art on the walls and they brew all of their own beer. The layout can be VERY confusing, I counted 4 different levels just walking into the door. I decided to try the raspberry beer which was very interesting but really delicious! There was a deep raspberry flavor but it was super light at the same time. We arrived late enough that the kitchen was closing so hopefully when I’m in downtown St. Charles again I can go back and try the food! Cheers!

Canned touristy brewery. The beer is pretty mediocre compared to what you can get in the St. Louis area, but the location is pretty nice. At least the service was friendly and timely, and the items on the food menu looked good. I had the seasonal brew, which was an unfiltered honey wheat. It was fine. Drinkable. Not particularly offensive. And that’s all I have to say about that.

It’s a neat restaurant and bar in a neat area– Old St. Charles. The food wasn’t spectacular but the beer was good. I had the Trailhead Red Amber Ale. Not my typical beer style but thought they did a really good job on the amber ale. For food I tried the BLTA with baked beans. The baked beans were really good. The BLTA left me unimpressed. Average bacon, below average tomato, average lettuce, and an avocado on wheat bread from a cheap grocery store loaf. I would recommend Trailhead for the beer. Keep in mind they allow smoking in the bar. I’m spoiled that smoking is not allowed in any part of restaurants at home.

Trailhead Brewing Co is located on in St Charles right off the Missouri River and North-West of downtown St Louis. This is a rather expansive restaurant-bar-brewery concept similar to the ubiquitous Gordon Biersch with quite a bit more Missouri frontier flair. On this occasion I was visiting St Louis for a summit with members of our Atlanta team and decided to make this a destination one evening as it was close to the local office. As we walked across the gallery and into seating there’s a riverboat hung above the bar. An immense multi-rider bicycle hangs above the stairs along with other bikes and boats beneath the exposed timber rafters and remarkable wooden ceiling. Since it was December the restaurant was decorated with garlands and lights and the mood was quite festive. We were presented a rather extensive menu and a list of available brews. I started with the Missouri Brown Ale to have with food. I tend to gravitate towards the stouts and use IPAs with bitter hops as my version of a light beer. The Missouri Brown Ale was actually a bit disappointing to me — usually browns have a bit of sweetness that I didn’t find here. I’m sure plenty will like it though. Looking though the menu we opted on ordering some appetizers so we could sample many items. I think our favorites were the spicy wings and the fried asparagus. Ale Battered Asparagus — these were really delicious. Hot Crab and Artichoke dip with pita — I make something like this at home. Not bad at all. Hot Soft Pretzels with queso cheese sauce — after having the giant Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese at World of Beer, these were a bit of disappointment. Spicy Chicken Wings — I thought these very good — bit smokey and a little spice. If anything they could have been much hotter, but I wanted to make sure our small lot could eat them. The food in general was good and of good quality and preparation. Nothing really special but filling. I also sampled the Trailhead Red Amber Ale and ended up finishing with it — surprisingly it was my favorite of the three. (much longer review on my food blog)

Mehhhhhhhh. The interior was very nicely uniquely designed, multiple floors and fun to explore, but the beers I tried and the calamari appetizer was not as great. Beer just didn’t taste as good as other breweries or places. I got to try the Amber, Stout, and their seasonal and all of them didn’t impress. Would definitely recommend other breweries around the St Louis Area.
