I wish I would’ve taken a pic of the pathetic nachos. There weren’t many, the cheese wasn’t even melted, and there was maybe ½ a spoonful of ground beef on them. The beer was good and there were good happy hour specials but skip any food.

Lured by the sign outside for a refreshing watermelon lemonade vodka… Truly enjoyed the colonial bar with all natural lighting, wood and simplicity. Appreciated that our bartender was dressed in colonial wear and she had a grace about her that exemplified what I imagine a colonial woman from way back when would be like. Hoping the owner reconsiders making everyone wear the colonial outfits. We’ll be back again!

Enter ye olde cavernous watering hole… This is an excellent place to stop by if you’re strolling up and down the tourist strip. Lanterns light the way as you’ll see there is no electricity to be found. The outside patio is simply grand. Flamenco music sets the stage for your romantic outing. A good selection of snack and dinner food; the prices were very reasonable! We tried a manchego, black bean and chicken flatbread which fed 2 of us for $ 7.95. I tried a local Amber beer which proved to be palatable. As the sun went down, a duo played live Spanish music which was simply chahhrming. There is a fun dice/box game you can ask to play at your table. We entertained ourselves with that for about an hour.

Great atmosphere. Great sangria. Morgan the bartender is awesome! Playing Kill the Box is classic. All around great time.

This place is pretty awesome. It gives you that old traveler feeling. Like how it must have felt to be passing through here on your way to find someone or trade goods. They sell sangria in bottles with corks and often have some live music outside. A definite must-go-to when you’re visiting.

Drinking a glass of fresh sangria by candlelight in an 1800s bar! A must see.

Our first visit here, we lucked out in that the bartender had kept it open an extra hour and we squeezed in right at last call. We ordered our drinks and played Shut the Box for a while before leaving, and spoke for a bit with the bartender. It was dark when we arrived and the whole place was lit entirely by candle light. We immediately fell in love with it and decided to return the next day. That’s exactly what we did, and this time the bartender in his period clothing was replaced by a different bartender(his mother, it turns out) also in period clothing. Also in attendance was a volunteer, similarly dressed, who found it necessary to blather on for a bit about her completely rumor-based and rather obnoxious political ideology. Here’s the question: why does this place close at 7pm every day? I’d imagine there’s quite a lot of money to be had after 7pm for a bar. As we stayed through last call, we saw how many people they turned away just in the short time between last call and when they kicked us out. What a crazy business decision!

Cool little place! It’s lit by candlelight, so in the chilly winter it’s really nice to come in here and get some heat from the little candles on the tables. There are just a few little tables when you walk inside, plus a bar area, before you enter the outside seating in the back. The building is made of stone and has the Spanish Colonial style of old St. Augustine, putting you right back into the 18th century! If you’re hungry at all, be sure to eat elsewhere though, as they literally only have beverages… oh, and they’re served by pirates!

Next to the Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum, this Tavern is a throwback to the 1700’s, you will no doubt be entertained by the staff dressed in period clothing as well as the singing group. Check it out at night for extra fun and entertainment — 5 stars for historical value.
