I’m actually amazed that this mall still exists. I remember as a teen in the early 90’s, this was THE only hangout in town. I had a lot of great memories of buying candy at the dollar store, watching a movie, getting a slice of pizza, then blowing all my quarters at the arcade. The only stores that remain from that era at this mall are the JCPenney and Belk. Every other location has held restaurants, shops, stores, whatever you can think of, and come and gone. It has gotten better in recent years, however, as I can remember when there were literally 4 stores in the entire mall. Belk and Penney’s are still anchors, but there’s a nice flower shop, a hallmark store, and a Sears which have been there for a while. A church has taken over the area that used to be the movie theaters, and they seem to be doing really well– a LOT of cars pack that place on Sundays. I also noticed a sewing shop and GNC, so it’s nice to see they’re getting some tenants. Still a LONG way from the glory days of this mall, but they’re hanging in there. Although it’s clean, well-maintained, has some nice stores, and plenty of parking, I can’t recommend this mall for a shopping excursion. Would definitely drive to Jax or Daytona for true mall shopping, but if you need something in a pinch, try the department stores here.
