I’ve been collecting for a while. You will not deal with a nicer couple. This is what it’s about, folks. Great people who love music as much as you do.

Oh. My. God. This place is still open?! I remember buying cassettes from this store when I was in high school back in the late 80s. It’s pretty incredible that in this day and age of electronic downloading and file sharing that this store is still open. I was in Saginaw over the weekend and I was shocked to see Records and Tapes open so I stopped in and found some real gems that I just had to purchase… on VINYL!!! Great job Records and Tapes!

Unfortunately the Tri Cities does not have a plethora of Record stores. This is by far the best in the area. The owner is present most of the time and more than willing to help you find what you need. He stated«If you can’t find it I’ll order it» I purchased two Technics turntables that needed work(he had them on a shelf in a que to be fixed), along with bootleg live vinyls from Zeppelin and, Rolling Stones. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, White Zombie, and Beach Boys are some of the other artists I purchased. He also has Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Blues, Polka, Classical, and more genres to search through.

A true Saginaw gem! A record store in Saginaw, whoda thunk it? Of course, you shouldn’t be too surprised as Records and Tapes Galore on Court has been providing Saginaw with all the best vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks, and CDs for more than 35 years! The shop is worth a visit for that reason alone. There aren’t a whole lot of independent music shops left standing anywhere(and this is the only one in Saginaw!) and how amazing is it that an independent business has been thriving in Saginaw for so long? Bill and Judy Wegner are the owners and are not your typical hipster snob record store owners. Nope, Bill and Judy are the real deal. They’re friendly folks who have a passion for what they do. They are always willing to help you find whatever you’re looking for or will chat with you about music. They’ll also leave you be to spend hours digging through the stacks if that’s more your way. I’m pretty nostalgic about this place. I’ve been popping in since my early teens when I mostly was digging for bargains in the used CDs. I also bought my very first vinyl lp here– Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album. That was about 15 years back and vinyl has seen quite a resurgence since. I also was off living in Metro Detroit where I had 10 solid record shops within a half hour of me but I dreamt of returning to Records and Tapes! Honestly even if Records and Tapes were in a Detroit suburb they could stand their own. They’ve got a great selection at pretty solid prices. The quality of their used vinyl also beats a number of places I’ve been. And beyond the alphabetized higher priced and rarer big name records that you can find in alphabetical order(some are even marked as rare and priced accordingly) there’s stacks and boxes of records all around. Most of the selection of used vinyl is somewhere between $ 1-$ 3. Pretty good, right? And the store is absolutely packed. That might be off putting to some but if vinyl is your thing, I suspect you’re just like me– the thrill is in the hunt! Come early so you can spend at least a few hours digging through boxes. I’ve found some really great gems in my digs! And a few hours won’t be nearly long enough to see everything in this store! Beyond used vinyl there’s a really great selection of new vinyl. I was comparing prices both to amazon and other music shops I’ve been and the new vinyl is priced real good. There’s some steals here. Less them Amazon prices, no shipping fees, and you’re supporting a local mom and pop store instead of a huge business. There’s also still a lot of used CDs, though somewhat less than there used to be. Granted I suspect CDs are only a small fraction of Records and Tapes sales. There’s cassettes and 8 tracks and also quite a few DVDs and VHS. Beyond that I spotted some awesome deals on turn tables, speakers, stereos, etc. and there’s posters and other random music memorabilia also. Definitely a fun shop for any music lover and a great place to spend a few hours when you’re looking for something to do in Saginaw. They also buy your used music. I haven’t sold them anything so I don’t know the details there. Judging by the things I’ve bought though, they’re big on quality. Whether you’re into Pop, Rock, Indie, Classical, Country, Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, etc, etc there’s something here for you. I’m a huge fan of Classic Rock and would say this shop is especially good for that but there’s a surprisingly wide variety and just tons of music here. I doubt you could go in and not find something you’re interested in. I spent so much time here on my last visit that Bill was joking that they were going to invite me over for dinner. And as I said, I still didn’t get to see a solid 30−50% of the vinyl! Some allow yourself plenty of time to search! Dollar deal vinyl is near the area you first walk in and is easy to overlook but I got a bunch of good stuff in there so don’t forget to take a peak over there! Everywhere you turn in this shop there’s more music to look through. It’s somewhere close to my idea of paradise! So what are you waiting for? Come over to Court Street and escape into this musical oasis! P. S. I highly recommend reading this awesome MLive article about the shop and its awesome owners–

These cute mom and pop record stores are a dieing breed. The owner is really friendly and helpful, he looked in the back for an artist I couldn’t find. The records along the wall are in boxes and aren’t organized by genre or artist, but I didn’t mind because those records are only $ 2.99. I got a Beach Boys record in fantastic condition for 3 bucks! Yay!
