Not a huge Thai fan since I’m allergic to peanuts but heard all the great things about this place so decided to give it a try with my sister and friends. EXPECTATION: there will most likely well always BE A WAIT. We came on a Saturday night and we waited almost 45 minutes. The restaurant is also very small so a wait is expected which is fine(builds your appetite!) Also, there is a bar literally 10 steps away, you can grab a few drinks while you wait. They have $ 2 beers which was actually a good lager. We ordered Fresh Rolls, Green and Red Curry, Tom Yum Soup, and Chicken Pad Thai. Food was absolutely delicious and brought to us fast!!! My friend thought her Green Curry was too spicy but I loved it. My Pad Thai, I ordered the peanuts on the side and it still tasted really good according to my non allergic friends. The server also offered me different sauces since I’m allergic to all the peanut sauces. Service was a bit off(had to ask for chopsticks 4 times) but remained patient as they were super busy. Next visit to Sac, I would love to come back to try different things on the menu.

This place is a gem. Incredible taste, authentic food and the nicest of nice staff. Prices are impossible to beat for the quality of this food. I would go as far to say that this food rivals and possibly beats out the best of Thai cuisine in the Bay Area, period. We will be sorely missing this amazing little spot. Until next time … –pumpkin curry must have –drunken noodle phenomenal — potstickers oh so delicious

The restaurant is a cozy and tasty treat. The waiter was prompt and helpful and the food came fast, even though restaurant was full of people. My boyfriend and I didn’t stray far from our favorites and ordered two chicken pad se ew. The dish was familiar and extremely flavorful. This restaurant is a nice addition to our Thai restaurants favorites.

Food is great! People are chill and its not full service which is cool and most people dont understand that. I think most people don’t understand that you’re not going to like everything on the menu. You’re going to have different taste preference from the next person. So writing a bad review about a certain food you didn’t like is irrelevant.

Believe the hype. The food is delicious, the service is prompt, and the location is in the heart of midtown, even though the size of this little place reminds me of San Francisco — so don’t bother with a large group here. On the hunt for vegetarian options after a UYE in the area. Checked my bookmarks and realized that we were close to this one and it’s open late. Came with a pair of friends so we could split a few different things and get our fill. We tried the avocado curry, the spicy stir fried eggplant with tofu, and drunken noodles. A V O C A D O C U R R Y Ridiculous amounts of avocado. So delicious. A must try! $ 2 beers with a Unilocal check in? Yes, you read that right. I am definitely coming back here!

I came here with my Thai housemate to see how the food would compare to real Thai food. We waited for about 40 minutes on a Saturday at 7pm. The food, however, came out pretty quickly Drunken noodles(chicken or tofu) — $ 8.95 The noodles was moist and tasty and very flavorful. There was a good ratio of noodles/veggies/chicken/tofu Tom yum soup — $ 5.95 Very flavorful, and apparently surprisingly authentic but they didn’t use the Thai mushroom. Pumpkin Red Curry — $ 9.95 Very tasty(: and full of veggies. Overall, everything was quite good. One thing is that they did not have vinegar and jalepenos(which is a staple side sauce for Thai food). P. s. If you rate them in Unilocal, you get a free choice of dessert! Yum! I got the mango sticky rice to go and it came with coconut ice cream too. The ice cream was amazing, sticky rice a tad bit stiff but still good, and mangos were sweet and ripe! Yay!

This place had a lot of good reviews so we thought we’d check it out. Even though I was very certain that it would not be better than New Krung Thai. Out of 10 years dining at many Thai restaurants, none have come close. As I walked in to my table a lady sitting at the table at the entrance was sideways on her chair with her legs crossed, blocking the entrance. She lifted her foot up as I squeezed by. Pardon me m’am! Very narrow space into the dining area. The place is tiny. Around 20 people max. We ordered the avocado curry and the drunken noodles. It took unusually long for our food to arrive considering it wasn’t busy. There were a few empty tables. The drunken noodles were good at first bite, I was happy about that but soon overwhelmed with salt. Too much where your tongue is feels grainy and stung with that salty after taste. It pretty much ruined the dish. The avocado dish was not what we expected, it was just big slices of avocado added. My friend said it was also salty but I couldn’t tell cause of the stronger salty drunken noodles. From this experience I wouldn’t want to dine there again. Service was as expected of Asian restaurants. Weak. On top of this we ordered two rice but didn’t realize the curry came with its own rice. So it sat untouched. It would have been nice if our waiter mentioned it. But of course it was our responsible to read it somewhere on the menu. I’m just amazed of the high reviews. Maybe our experience was just a one off.

Whoa! After visiting several Thai restaurants across Sacramento, I’ve finally discovered this remarkable Thai restaurant thanks to my Unilocal buddies: Alex T and Bridget W for recommend that place! The Coconut Midtown delivers the greatest, and the most ethnic Thai dishes all day and night! As I entered their doors, the atmosphere is very warming here filled with delightful customers who come by to this place frequently. The concept is very modern, yet it’s very small inside compared to some local Chinese restaurants in San Francisco especially in the Downtown Sacramento area. The employees from servers to cookers are doing a great job for making the customers like me a friendly service! No cons at all! Now onto the food! On 1÷24÷2016, we did ordered three entrees: the Drunken Noodle(veggie style,) the Stir-Fry Eggplant and Vegetables, and the Green Curry Soup with Avocado on top. It comes with a side of brown rice for two of 3 entrees. As I ate it, these foods are very, totally delicious! The Drunken Noodles are top notch which I can feel the spices of that entrée! Very refreshing noodle! The Stir-Fry Eggplant and Vegetables also tasted not that bad too especially the Green Curry Soup with an Avocado on top. Both of them are simply outstanding dish! What a great Thai dinner meal at all! Of course, The Coconut offers a $ 2 beer special if you check-in with Unilocal app which it’s a huge plus for us! We did ordered the Monkey Knife Flight Pale Ale from Sacramento’s brewery: Rubicon Brewing Co for three of us, and that ale is remarkably, freshening good! Parking at the Coconut at Midtown can be challenging. You can park it at the nearest surface street parking if it’s available to park. Otherwise, you can ride a bike, walk, or use public transportation easier without the hassles. In the end, The Coconut Midtown is the most coolest, and the kickest Thai restaurant that I’ve ever enjoyed dining there for the first time! Perfect for friends/family gatherings! A well, worthy visit! My rating: 4 ½ stars.

After hearing such great things about this place, I had to stop by and see what all the fuss was about. Food: We started with the organic spring roll with tofu and fresh veggies. Something about the tofu that really got us hooked, it was just so fresh and we liked that it was served cold. The peanut sauce on the other hand was the real deal. It was warm, nutty and super decadent. I practically licked the little bowl clean. I ordered the Green Curry with Chicken and a side of brown rice. Hands down, the best Green Curry I’ve ever had. That’s a bold statement, but I can admit it with confidence. I eat a lot of curry, mostly homemade, but this comes closest to truly pleasing my palate. This is something I would enjoy making at home at least once a week, but now I can just come here. It is so creamy, rich and flavorful. However, not spicy one bit. I like curry to be spicy, I added chili flakes and due to the amount of coco milk, the flavor just would not change. It came with fresh zucchini, bamboo, green beans, bell peppers and basil leaves. Literally all of my favorite veggies in one bowl. Good portions of everything including and to my surprise, a plentiful portion of fresh chicken. You can chose from a ton of different meat options. I highly recommend this dish. I love that they didn’t charge me extra for brown rice, like most places do. The rice was so fresh and warm, I’m not exaggerating when I say the rice was some of the best brown rice I’ve had. How is that possible? My boyfriend had pad see ew with beef. Portion was also really big, flavor was average in my opinion, it lacked a bit of spice and savor. Service: Ridiculously inconsistent. We had three different people attend to us and all three provided different service. The young woman seemed pretty perplexed half of the time, I asked for green tea and she didn’t know what that was and countered with«don’t you mean thai tea?» I explained to her that I wanted HOT tea and she said, «oh we have hot green tea.» I didn’t even try, just told her to get me that. After 15 minutes I had to remind her and she finally brought it out. The young man that helped us was wonderful, super friendly and efficient in attending us. The older guy was also efficient, but a bit shaky and off balance in a weird way. Overall, inconsistent, but like everyone else mentions in their reviews… they are always super busy and understaffed. Ambiance: TINY. They really need to expand, because there is clearly a high demand for dining at The Coconut. Very tiny, loud and busy spot. Tables are all super close to each other due to lack of space. Expect to wait a few minutes for seating. Price: So economical! Typically, you get reasonable pricing with a reasonable portion… at The Coconut you get LARGE portions at a SMALL price. Both my boyfriend and I had plenty of leftovers. Overall: Aside from the service, everything about this place is wonderful. Fresh ingredients, tons of flavor and above all, extremely authentic Thai food. We’ll be back!

This place. The Coconut is one of those places that is always packed, and for good reason. It’s delicious. They have vegan options and their food never disappoints. I always get the veggies with brown rice. Their brown rice is the best brown rice. ever? Yes. How do they make it so good?

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this one yet. This is probably my favorite Thai spot in the city of Sacramento right now(meaning that it still ranks second to some of my favorite spots in the suburbs). I’ve been to like 6 – 7 Thai places in the Union Square area in SF and The Coconut is way better than all of them. The one downside to The Coconut is that there’s usually a really long wait when it’s busy, but it’s definitely worth it. I’ve seen people storm off and have felt sorry for them. Don’t be that guy. That being said– the ambiance is casual, PACKED, kind of loud, but still kind of romantic somehow. I’ve been on a few dates here, and they all went pretty well, except for that one where I got called out for being super stoned. Oh crap, I forgot, we’re not supposed to review our dates on Unilocal. You can almost always get a $ 2 beer and/or a free dessert if you check in on Unilocal, and if you like beer, the Singha goes pretty well with pretty much any of the curries. I’ve honestly been kind of a repeat offender with the green curry and the cheese wontons and the mango with sticky rice. When I come with my daughter I let her get just the cheese wontons. If you think that makes me a bad parent I’m just going to assume you don’t love Thai food as much as I do.

Gluten Free Review This is some good Thai/Hybrid mix of food, the soup, the sweet and sour, DAYUM. Found it on Unilocal under gluten-free and decided to stop in the freezing rain to check it out, parked a block away and posted up inside with a window view. I’ll start of by saying the only reason for not 5 stars is they literally brought out our appetizer, soup, main course all at the same time… we had a table full of food and couldn’t really enjoy everything by itself but the food quality was so good we didn’t worry much. Also we ordered spring rolls with no cilantro and they were brought out with cilantro but she took them off our bill since we didn’t eat them so that is awesome. The coconut Thai something soup is simply amazing and brothful tasting and cured any stomach ache I had, and the sweet and sour chicken/beef GLUTENFREE was one of the best Asian dishes I’ve had in forever, I’d eat it every other night if I could as well as the soup. The plum wine was eh okay but the service was good, the speed was to fast, however the food selection, gluten free options, and quality makes this place a 5 star eatery. Check it out.

I brought my family here for dinner one evening and found out when we arrived happy hour was still going on so we took advantage of that. We ordered a selection of happy hour items such as calamari and spring rolls in addition to our entrees. The happy hour items are what I would expect for happy hour and the portions were small but the happy hour was cheap so I didn’t mind. I ended up ordering a curry for myself and it was delicious. The portion was just about right and all the veggie and meat in the curry were perfectly cooked. My family enjoyed their meals too and my dad was impressed with how tender the chicken was. The service was okay, it was pretty busy when I went. I wish I had known that they had unlimited thai iced tea. I guess next time I go back I will have to order it.

This Thai place was really good IMO! One cool thing even though I do not drink tea, is that they have free refills of Thai Ice Tea, so my friends definitely monopolized on that and then took some to go, and they were super nice about it too! #1, great customer service! I have bee craving some curry so I got a red curry and it was amazing. Authentic tasting and very flavorful, not watered down. It looks like a small portion, but it was enough to get me full. My friends got a pumpkin coconut curry, avocado yellow curry and seafood eggplant rice plate… all were amazing. If I am in the area again, I will definitely come back!

Lots of stars for the unlimited Thai tea! The place is very small and gets packed around lunch time, with a wait list. We were seated in a cramped corner near the register/to go/server station. The food is average Thai food, not sure where the hype is. The drunken noodles were average, I’ve had better. The spicy Thai salad wasn’t spicy and topped with purple-looking beef slices– not sure why it had a tint of purple. The fried calamari was average, skimpy, close to bland without the dipping sauce and tasted more like popcorn. A garnish, bed of lettuce or finish of black pepper would have made it more presentable. Service was attentive and food came out in a timely manner. I really enjoyed the paintings on the wall: textured paintings and kept the place artsy and themed, without too much of that Thai scene most Thai places give out. It had more of a café feel, which was nice. Just an advice: remove the«waiting» chair right next to the table we were seated at. The person sitting there waiting for a table was literally sitting at our table with us. It was uncomfortable. Her child was playing around our table and even ran his toy train on our table.

Great Thai food with Amazing flavors. Great $ 3.00 happy hour appetizers everyday from 4:30 — 6:00. We started off with there appetizer Pot Stickers, comes with 6 yummy chicken potstickers served with a ginger sauce. For Dinner Ordered: –Drunken Noodle with Chicken. The pan fried dish came with Lots of noodles, chicken and variety of vegetables. –Pineapple Fried rice with chicken. Ordered it without the peanuts. The fry rice had a curry flavor with pineapples in it and vegetables. Very tasty. –Beef with vegetable dish that came with brown rice. Portion size here are large so expect to bring some home for lunch or dinner the next day. The service was very attentive and friendly. The waitress stopped by my table a couple times to see if everything was ok and needed anything else… good customer service. Also, they said if you write a Unilocal review and show them on your next visit they will give you a complimentary Mango Sticky Rice Dessert. If they run out they will substitute with Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream. I definitely will be coming back often to try some of their other Yummy menu items.

I have always heard good things about this place and one late Friday night, I decided to try it out with some friends. I was expecting great things about it, but was not too impressed overall. First off, even though we were the 7th person on the waiting list, we still got seated pretty quickly(within 20 minutes). We then got seated and started looking at the menu. By the time we were ready to order, we haven’t even got greeted by the waiter/waitress or have been offered water. When we finally got their attention, we were a little annoyed but we ordered anyways, hoping at least the food would come out fast. We waited almost half an hour for our appetizer to come. That was torture. On top of that, the dishes didn’t all come in around the same time. Our last dish was about 10 minutes delayed from the rest of the dishes. Just little things that didn’t make this experience A+ for me. Food wise, this place was good, but not amazing/4.5 star material. We ordered potstickers. I wouldn’t really called them potstickers since they didn’t look pan fried. But the garlic on top made it really yummy(the brown sugar/ginger sauce on the side, though, not so much). We also ordered the Drunken Noodles, Pineapple Chicken Pad Thai, and Green Curry with beef. We ordered everything medium spicy, and they stayed pretty true to their spice level. The Drunken Noodle was light in flavor, but I appreciated it. It could have been a tad bit more flavorful in comparison with the other dishes, but it was good enough for me. The pineapple chicken pad thai was good, but nothing AMAZING. The green curry was pretty delicious. Rich and all the flavor of the green curry was all there. It was a little salty towards the end though, but still, the green curry, I’ll admit was better than most places. One good thing about this place(and the reason why I ended up giving a 4 for their food) is their portion and cheap pricing. Props. But the reason why I bump it back down to a 3.5 was for the slow & inadequate service. TL;DR: good food(not the best), GREAT portion, GREAT price, watch out for bad/slow service. PS Unilocal check-in gets you $ 2 daily special beer.

I dined at The Coconut Midtown today with my family, the special occasion being that today was my birthday. The Coconut Midtown is a small restaurant but it’s jam packed with customers. A painting of a toucan by artist Sulaymaan is prominently displayed at the entrance. Sulaymaan’s paintings of wildlife and flowers decorates the walls of the restaurant. The waiter was prompt with our water and left us alone to look over the menu. It took us a while to decide on what we wanted to eat because so many of the entrees looked so appetizing. My sister ordered the Yellow Curry but she wanted cashews in it. The Yellow Curry doesn’t come with cashews but the waiter made a special accommodation for her. My father had the pumpkin red curry and I ordered the Avocado Yellow Curry with chicken. All curries comes with a choice of white or brown rice. It was a fairly short waiting time for the food to arrive. When the food arrived, my avocado yellow curry was huge! Coconut Midtown doesn’t skimp on the avocados. Big slices of avocados in the curry with nice amounts of thinly sliced carrots and chicken. When I finished, I barely had enough room for dessert but, being the birthday boy that I am, I still wanted to try the fried banana with ice cream. Unfortunately, they were out of fried banana with ice cream so I decided to have the Mango Sweet Stick Rice with Coconut Ice Cream instead. When the dessert came, there was quite a lot of sliced mangoes and decent sized scoops of coconut ice cream but the highlight of the dish was the sticky rice: It’s sweet, warm, and moist. And for a restaurant in Midtown the food was inexpensive, too. For a family of three, the bill amounted to fifty dollars. Coconut is also Unilocal friendly as it has signs plastered throughout their restaurant which reads, «Check Unilocal for daily $ 2.00 beer selection.» My initial dining experience was positive and I enthusiastically give The Coconut Midtown a perfect five-star rating.
