Upon wanting to stop in for dinner tonight since the rush hour on the freeway was hectic(especially since it was raining), I must report that this business is now closed. I did enjoy going in for unlimited mimosas on Sunday. I had a waitress that served us during the Rainbow Fest weekend in midtown and she was phenomenal and sweet! Oh well, back to the drawing board for eye candy and unlimited mimosas I guess.

This is probably my favorite sports bar in Sacramento. The food here is fantastic and drinks are reasonably priced. The happy hour menu is great. Everything is priced really well and you get a good sized portion for what you pay for. I highly recommend the Texas style tater tots during happy hour. The burgers here are massive and full of flavor, you can really tell they use quality ingredients. The service here can be a little slow on busy game nights, but you kind of have to expect that when the place is packed. Even if they are a little slow the staff is very knowledgeable of the menu and incredibly nice. When I last ate here the server explained to us that they use locally grown produce and cage free chickens. The layout is great. Downstairs there is a decent sized bar with additional tables, all have great views of the tvs. Upstairs there is a cool lounge with a giant tv and even more tables surrounded by even more tvs. Overall this is everything you should expect from a sports bar and then some. The environment during a big game here is 2nd only to being at the stadium.

Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. I had the breakfast bowl, which was really poor. Besides the Ore Ida tater tots loaded in the bowl, there was toast and a biscuit. This was a big bowl of bread. I would recommend the Bloody Marys as they were delicious. Breakfast… not so much.

I would give this place 3.5 stars The service here is soooo much better than when it was MVP’s. The waitress actually acknowledged me and my boyfriend. I didn’t feel like a step child at the now Skybox Grill and Bar. There is still a ton of TVs available to watch whatever game that is on. I had the grilled veggie pita which consists of zucchini, roasted peppers, onions, spinach, tomato, and tzatziki sauce. My boyfriend had a burger(I can’t remember which one). The food is good, but nothing special. Happy Hour prices seem decent. $ 3 plates, $ 1 off drafts, $ 3 wells, $ 4 call shots. I would probably come back for HH or to hang out with friends to watch a game and drink a few beers.

This is the third restaurant I’ve seen in this location. Hopefully it lasts! A fine place to grab a beer and watch a game. Plenty of TVs, and they can usually find the game you’re looking for(no PAC12 Network though). The food and service wasn’t great. It took 20 minutes to realize they were out of what I ordered(the food should have been finished by that time), so I switched my order to their triple grilled cheese sandwich. It was more like a cheese sandwich on toast, and wasn’t how it was described on the menu. Then they charged me for the first thing I ordered, which was more expensive. Maybe it was just a bad first experience… I’d certainly go back and give them another shot. Just not for any PAC12 games… gotta go down the street for those.

I went here with 2 buddies for the Monday Night Football game tonight and this place was no bueno. Let me first give a disclaimer saying our waitress said it was her first night working there(probably not the best night for a Niners MNF game). It might as well have been her first night working at a bar or restaurant. She was as unpleasant as her service. That being said, the only thing that could have redeemed this place was the food, and that was not the case. We started off with some cold brews(a decent selection– we got the Lagu IPA) and the nachos– which were mediocre. 7⁄11 style nacho cheese is never a good sign. After that and the painful process of getting enough plates(for 3), brews, and napkins, we decided we’d play it safe and make the orders real simple like. The 2 homies both got chicken tenders– which were,. No words come to mind. I got the Sante Fe Chicken Salad, which wasn’t too hot. Super processed chicken, no dressing, about 5 black beans and 12 pieces of corn made it rather Caucasian. For a bar though, the place did have a lot of TVs, which was nice. That and the cold brew is the only thing giving this pad any stars. Oh if you have AT&T don’t bother using your cellular here. The two bros i was with were SOL on data usage, but obvi I’m not that much of a Darrin and have Verizon. There was a cool guy in a wheelchair who welcomed us as we entered, and he was really nice, but from there it went downhill like a Jamaican bobsled– real quick like.

Just dropping in to ask why aren’t all nachos served on a tortilla? I bumped this place from 3 to 4 just for coming up with this brilliant concept. Other than that, generic sports bar. Good but ultimately forgettable.

Just had a terrific after-concert blow-out with a couple dozen of my closest musician friends. Loren and his staff were first rate! The place can handle a crowd with class. Great food too!

Thirty-plus minutes for a very basic meal to go. I finally got my lukewarm food that wasn’t prepared as described on the menu and was presented in a small box. No bag, no utensils, no napkins. It pained me to do it, but I left the food at the bar and walked out. Also… Who ends brunch at 11am? Isn’t that just breakfast? I’ve heard good things about this place’s food, and maybe those things are true, but the service and presentation were atrocious enough for me to never go back.

I know it’s a little busy due to the football game, but we shouldn’t have to wait almost a hour for a burger and a Caesar salad right?! And another 20+ min to get another beer(should have went to get it at the bar myself) Spicy Burger was over cooked and not worth the $ 14 They upside was the place itself was pretty nice, many tv’s for football. Waitresses were nice but maybe hiring another 3 more wouldn’t hurt with all the people.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but my boyfriend and I were in town, hungry, and wanted to try somewhere new. We were greeted immediately and told that we could sit anywhere. We choose the bar area and a nice lady said she would put whatever we wanted on whatever TV– so we were able to watch the Detroit Tiger game. :) My boyfriend ordered a Monkey Knife Fight, bacon and cheddar burger with tater tots and a side salad– he enjoyed his food, and of course he enjoyed his beer. I had a grilled chicken sandwich– they put cilantro on it which was nice and I had a side salad(the salad was meh but overall, I enjoyed my food Here’s why both my boyfriend and I will return– #1 the TVs, #2 they have the BEST ranch dressing, #3 the food was good

Saw this place listed as a Living Social offer, so I looked online, saw«vegan» and«vegetarian» listed on their website. Wow, gotta admire a pub that seems to be proactively attracting non-carnivores. So I bought it. My wife and I tried it for lunch one Sunday when some of our favorite vegan-friendly eating places(Dad’s Sandwich on S, Café Morocco, etc.) are closed. I never went to MVP, so can’t comment on the renovation. The place is clean, fresh, bright. First thing that impresses you is how large and extensive it is. It’s an L-shaped place, stretched around the front of the building, with a second flore and the bar in approximate center. Second impression, lots and lots of televisions. It’s a sports bar, no problem. My beloved Red Sox weren’t playing, but I could keep an eye on the Yankees-Rays game. Seems to be understaffed; there was just one woman working the bar when we were there, a busy afternoon with several clusters of men conducting their fantasy football league drafts. We found seats, reviewed the menus, went to the bar to order two black bean chipotle veggie burgers with fries and a couple beers(Ninkasi IPA on tap, yum). Food soon delivered, and it’s pretty good. Not the best veggie burger in Sac(Burgers & Brew, DeVeres, Plum Café), but not bad. On food alone I’d give Skybox four stars. But we charged a $ 3 substitution charge per burger for getting the veggie pattie. Say what? I challenge the bartender. She says the charge is on the menu. Huh? Menu reads: «All burgers can be substituted with falafel, grilled veggies, or a black bean chipotle burger. Or choose chicken(add $ 3) or grilled portabella mushroom(add $ 2).» Huh? To me, that period and«Or» mean the fee is only for chicken or mushroom. She doesn’t back down, says she’ll talk to her manager. Whatever. I was gonna tip $ 6, but I guess not. She didn’t pay attention during her training, or doesn’t have the power to waive the fee to make a happy customer, or something. Anyway, that fee thing didn’t endear us to Skybox. Food is OK, but there are too many other options around town.

This place seems like it’d be great for late night drinks. For lunch it’s just ok. The chicken and waffles were disappointing. I didn’t like the bacon bits in my waffle(just weird) and the chicken was cooked similar to tempura and it was just nasty. Yuck! I wouldn’t get this again. The gyro was fresh and satisfying. But not stellar or memorable. Their burgers /sandwiches are probably the thing to stick to here — although I like that they are trying new things.

I never went to MVPs, but I recently bought a Living Social voucher to Skybox and went to try it for lunch. around noon on a Sunday. They advertise brunch, and I was curious to see if they would have an additional brunch menu that was different from the menu they list online. Not the case. I’m not sure why they advertise brunch? We both got beers($ 4/each draft) and they were well poured, decently priced. Nothing super special — Blue Moons, New Castles, etc. My husband got the bleu cheese burger, I got the french dip. Both came with a copious amount of seasoned fries. They were GOOD, and filling, but it wasn’t anything I’ve never tasted before. It seemed like they had a good mix for all tastes on their menu — lighter fare(falafal, salad, pita, etc) and then more traditional American grill bar food(burgers, potato skins, nachos). Our servers(all three of them) were very attentive and friendly. Overall, it’s not something new and exciting, but it seems like they are doing what they do well and provide a solid service to the sports bar type clientel.

Formerly known as MVP’s. My, how this place has changed! New owners, new staff, and most importantly NEW Menu! Skybox sponsors the Australian Rules Football Team that I used to be a part of. They happen to have all their events here; whether it’s after games and practice or fund raising. I happened to come to their Trivia Fundraising Event because I’m still a «Footy Groupie» and I want to see this sport succeed. Glad I came out! Not only did I get to help support the Football League, I was able to sample the new menu! What to order: 1. Chicken Wings: 1lb of wings for less then 10 bucks with 3 flavors to choose from, 2 dipping sauces, and celery and carrot sticks! Tasty and affordable. 2. Nachos: Get the nachos!!! We ordered 2 nachos for our table of 6 and killed them both. What I especially loved and appreciate about their nachos is that fact that at the very bottom of the nachos was a huge flour tortilla. So once you’ve finished the nachos, the cheese and everything else that fell of the chips just doesn’t end up on the plate it ends up on the tortilla; which you can also consume! LOVE! It was such a genius idea! 3. The mud pie: Not gonna lie, the waitress had me at Oreo crumb crust! Way better and bigger than the brownie sundae. Beside the Oreo crust, it had two layers different ice cream and topped with frozen whipped cream! Drool! I’d definitely come back just to eat at this place! Not just for Footy Events! Great job Skybox for turning the menu around! Every one was complimenting on how much better the food, presentation, and service was!

The Chicken and Waffles are amazing! My Palate is very thankful for the complex layers. Who knew that could happen with chicken and waffles. Their staff was friendly and attentive. I appreciate that there are different areas where it can be noisy and also quiet nooks in the back. I’ll definitely be back. :)

Name Change + Menu Change + Staff Change = A nice new sports bar! We went to MVP a few months ago, it was nothing to rave about and honestly nothing to write about so I did not. But we returned twice over the last month to find the bar was going through some changes! Now there’s Something to Talk About! This past Friday we grabbed a seat located near the bar so we could watch the Giants game, but we watched in amazement not at the Giants but at 3 college age guys ordering just about everything on the new menu. Soon realized they were a relative of management and was there to taste test the new menu items. A bit jealous but a bit excited because we were able to see the new bar friendly but flavorful items coming out one by one! Hubby and I settled on the two items listed in the 1st review by Dana C. Very good recommendations I might add! The Chimmicuri sliders and the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. As we ordered, our server, Britt, leaned over and stated great choices :). Service was a little slow but Britt was very attentive and apologetic. Basically the slowness was caused somewhat by the college guys devouring the whole menu! Our food came pipping hot and we were ready to dive in The chicken sandwich was to die for! Full of grilled juicy chicken breast, thick pieces of bacon, avocado with a nice chipotle aioli, all settled on large slices of bread. I had no complaints! I know the menu is new but I hope the portion size and this sandwich remains on the menu As Is! Hubby gobbled up the sliders, failing to even offer me a bite! Which means he was very satisfied and delighted lol! He did state, he wished the fries were a thicker cut, as a Fry expert, he loves thicker cut fries verses shoe string style. Bonus: during Giants games is is Happy Hour Time!!! So our well drinks were $ 3. Once this transition is complete, it feels like Skybox will be a go to Sports Bar for us!

Skybox(formerly known as MVPs) is a much improved version of what MVPs used to be. The menu is new and updated, the staff are(new) friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself has had a nice little makeover. Skybox sponsors the Australian Rules Football team that my husband plays on, so we have been making frequent visits to the restaurant for some time now. Now that the restaurant is Skybox, I am happy to report on the new and improved establishment. The menu has been update and the food choices and quality are much improved! I tried their GARLICCHIMICHURRISLIDERS with tots and my husband had the CHIPOTLECHICKENSANDWICH with fries. Y-U-M!!! The sliders were three cute little burgers all decked out with cheese, chimichurri sauce, and crispy onion strings! The little buns that they were served on were grilled but still soft and delicious, very melt-in-your-mouth style. When you add crispy little tots to those yummy sliders, you get a very happy girl! My husband’s Chipotle chicken sandwich was huge! It was a grilled chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and chipotle sauce. My husband said the sandwich was really good, just a little heavy on the sauce. I’ve got to hand it to the servers because the service was great! There must have been 60+ people in the upstairs area and the servers did everything they could to accommodate a group that size. We had to wait for our food for a while but that happens with a large group. Our waitress was great! She kept our drinks filled and her demeanor never wavered, she was nice and smiley from the beginning to the end. When we needed more of anything, she was on it! We’re looking forward to trying some of the other new items on the menu… shrimp tacos or empanadas, anyone? Loved this experience at Skybox, they blow MVPs out of the water!
