I drive from Dixon to come to this place. Been there five or six times. Had it tonight and forgot how amazing it is.

BEWARE! Overcharged me! I ordered 1 chicken tikka masala and 1 order of garlic naan. I was charged $ 22.19! $ 11.99 for the entrée and $ 9.28 for naan?!! Something seemed really weird when she rung up my order and kept changing the price. Fraudulent practices and horrible customer service. Really it says $ 2.95 on the menu and by the time I caught it and called them, they don’t answer the phone. Called a few times based on principle. The excuse the woman gave me was that the power went off earlier that day and it made the cash register charge more! Seriously lady? She promised to refund my money. Food was no where near the other great Indian places I’ve tried. This establishment needs maintenance. But what do I care? I’m not returning except to get my refund.

My boyfriend and I go here and only here for Indian food. The atmosphere is not at all impressive, but the food is great and the prices are, too! It seems to be family owned. The gentleman who we see every time we come in is very nice, and our order is always correct, fresh, and delicious! Highly recommend, especially the goat and the tandoori chicken.

When u least expect a place to be good is when u walk into a iffy place order, take a bite and ur taste buds get attacked with a punch of flavor. I came here thinking this place is a shit hole but it shut my pie hole real quick! I ordered the Tuesday special. It was so good! The naan took a while to make cuz they make it to order i was seriously shocked on how much food they gave me it was alot! I didnt finish it all but my brain kept seeing eat eat eat but my stomach was like, u better stop before i make u shit ur self! Na but seriously it was great the food was so good that i accidentally bit my tongue twice!!! I hate when that happens. I will def come back to this place it had so much flavor and the ladies at the register were really nice.

This is my second time around in one week. I’m having the chicken tikka masala along with the samosas. Oh and also the garlic naan bread. This is as close to authentic Indian cuisine as you’re going to find. Absolutely delicious and way under priced. A big win both ways.

I was actually on my way to eat at another restaurant that was right by Maharaja’s as I was feeling in the mood for some Mexican food. When I saw Maharajah’s it didn’t look busy so I was a little hesistant about eating there. However once I sat down and started talking to the owner /chef Bittu, I soon felt comfortable as he said he was going to prepare my meal fresh. I was a little worried that it would take longer than expected as I had a flight to catch at SAC airport. he reassured me that it wouldn’t take too long. Have you started cooking it reminded me of many of the Indian restaurant that had been to before with a savory aroma in the air. I ate some Keema samosas and also had the chicken tikka masala with fresh baked naan. As I was enjoying my meal I had a pleasant conversation with the chef. I talked about my past experiences with different Indian restaurants and how I love the food. I was so glad that I stopped in to eat here that night. It was a nice treat and much better than eating Mexican that night. I will definitely stop by again when I return to Sacramento. Thank you to the chef and his wife.

This is my favorite place to go for authentic, home cooked Indian food. I have tried the lamb, I have tried goat, and I have tried their chicken tikka masala. All have been incredibly delicious and satisfying. Portions are nice; more than enough for a meal eating on an empty stomach, and food leftover to look forward to later on. Another reason I eat here is because I love the owners. I don’t know their names but I’ve met them both. A husband and a wife. They are genuine, kind people who actually really care about the quality of their food and take pride in what they serve. I dined in today and they cooked my tikka masala dish to my spice liking; needless to say my food was amazing. I was asked how spicy I liked my food and I said super super spicy. «Indian spicy» lol. Sure enough my nose was sniffling and I felt warm inside, but what matters is that that is how I like my food and they cared enough to go the extra mile to make it that way. I really feel lucky to have a place like this nearby because restaurants like these are very hard to come by. I will keep returning back for a hearty, authentic Indian meal. Fabulous all around, and they should be on the food network channel«best places to eat»

Maharaja’s is a wonderful restaurant and grocery located in Natomas. Chef Bittu and his wife Simmi are masters of Indian Cuisine. Try their fresh naan and a Chicken Tikka Masala. It’s amazing! Our whole family loves Maharaja’s. Hands down the best Indian food we’ve had!

Really good samosas and the owner actually carried a conversation with me. I ordered 2 thing is samosas and they were really good. The only con is that the shop is little and humid. Other then that customer service is superb.

Tried Indian food for the first time and it was amazing! If you love spicy, this is where you wanna be. I tried some spicy chicken stuff and it was HOT and delicious! Also ordered a ton of samosas for a pot luck and they were to die for. They also have tons of sweets. Kind of like a little Indian bakery. They also have a dry food section with snacks and rice, and flour. Also a frozen food section with different frozen Indian cuisines. All for a very goos price! Will come here again!

Tried a bunch of their sweets. All were good. Especially liked the gulab stuffed with cheese. Yum and different from gulab you often find at Indian buffets. Had the traditinal gulab too and it was very good. Ordered mango lassi and veg samosa. Thought I’d be disappointed with lassi because it seemed too small but it was the best mango lassi I’ve had in a long time certainly better than any I’ve had in sac. The samosas were great. Really large probably 2 to 3 times larger than what I’m used to so lots of filling that’s very tasty. And the samosa dough was nice and crispy just great. Looking forward to trying a meal. Can’t wait.

Hands down the best Indian food I’ve had. Made to order and if someone lived at the restaurant you could call it ‘homemade’ lol. Along with amazing food the owners are the best! They are both always nice and helpful, and put their heart in making classic, home style Indian food. I recommend everything but if you don’t know what to order the butter chicken is my go to. If I could give them 50 stars I would!

I have had major cravings for Indian food the past month and as we live in Natomas that has more Indian restaurants than Starbucks(definitely not complaining!), I decided to try a couple of the restaurants out in the area. Maharaja’s is in the same shopping center as Raley’s and Jack’s but is on the far side near the Marshall’s and Cold Stone, the latter which is a great post-Indian dessert for those whose tastebuds are still warmed from the spice. I had heard about their free delivery option and the possibility of having Indian delivered to me while I watched Dr. Who in my pajamas was too great to pass up. But before I got into my Christmas onesie, I decided to go check out the brick and mortar and see what we were getting ourselves into. Maharaja’s isn’t your typical Indian restaurant– it’s more like a vastly scaled down Indian Whole Foods in that you can grab some grocery items but still have a wide selection of made to order meals and snacks. For those of you looking for Indian spices, stop on in as most major grocers are not going to sell them(I scoured the aisles of Bel Air in vain) and they are super cheap for the amount. They also have a substantial bakery although I admittedly have no knowledge of Indian baked goods, so I couldn’t tell you what they have on display but they did look quite delicious. Enough of my rambling, on to the food. My husband and I walked in and were immediately greeted by the owners who went through the menu with us and gave us suggestions. We ended up getting the Aloo Gobi(mild heat), Chana Masala(med heat), Naan, Garlic Naan, and samosas for around $ 30. There are three long tables set up so we posted up and watched the TV while we waited. We both grabbed sodas from their refrigerated units and it wasn’t until we were half way through dinner that I realized I could have ordered from the fountain. Oops. The food was out pretty fast and was so delicious! My husband doesn’t usually enjoy spice but fell in love with the chana masala and kept on suggesting we go back for lunch or dinner. I wasn’t that big a fan of the garlic naan– it added an additional spice to the dishes that are superb on their own. The aloo gobi was mild and was a nice contrast to the chana masala and we left with our bellies very very very full. I didn’t think we had ordered that much– two entrees, naan, and samosa but the portions were giant! Each entrée can easily feed two very hungry people. We unknowingly ordered a lot and despite stuffing ourselves, we had so much leftovers that warmed up so nicely for the following day’s lunch. Unlike the chilly Chaat Café on Del Paso, the proximity of you to the stove warms up the grocer/restaurant and is a welcome respite on the chilly winter afternoons. The refrigerator units are loud so you have to really speak up to get your order in and can make it difficult for conversation but the food and the owners really make up for a bit of noise. The owners were always checking up on us asking if the food was too spicy, if we wanted more naan or rice, or if we wanted some water(I think she read my face as she came out with a pitcher of water). Eating in at Maharaja’s is a very different experience because you are treated like family. Both times we have been in I have felt like I was visiting relatives who know their way around a kitchen and like your favorite relatives, you just want to keep visiting. As an added bonus for those of you who can’t call your order in, you can order online and either designate pick up or delivery. Plus, delivery is free on orders of $ 20 or more!

When they first opened I couldn’t resist the urge to stop by and try their chicken tikka masala. The dish was amazing!!! They cook it fresh for you and they ask you how spicy you want it and can let you taste as they’re cooking. Ordered the chicken biriyani special for dinner a couple nights ago and the rice was spiced real good, the chicken was flavorful and moist, it was just an awesome dish! Great vegetarian options for those who need it too… and if you want to try to make your own indian food they have a mini market inside too. There’s also desserts. –__– my weakness. Try it out… you’ll love it! And their staff is very friendly! :)

I was excited to see a new Indian place sprout up right down the street from me! Finally went in and tried it tonight. First of all what I found was this is the place to go if you want some goat. I never eat it but I tried it here and it was very good. We also ordered the tikka masala. Its the tikka masala that earned them only 2 stars. The meat was dry and very tough and seemed like it had been sitting for a while. The sauce had too much cinnamon and was a little runny. The samosas were good but weren’t fresh. The most puzzling aspect of this place is that there are no garbage cans inside and there are signs over every table that say«Throw trash outside». Aside from the small trash can outside that doesn’t actually belong to the restaurant, we couldn’t figure out if they actually meant to take our plates and stuff to the dumpster? The prices were a bit high in my opinion because we get a much better meal at India Oven down the street for the same price. And we don’t have to take our own trash out. If we go back we will get it to go, but I don’t see us going back honestly. With some small improvements the place could be a real winner! The place also doubles as a store and actually does have some good stuff which is nice. Don’t let my review stop you from trying Maharaja’s, you may feel differently. P. S. If the owners read this please fix that refrigerator that sounds like a dying dog when it kicks on.

Delicious, inexpensive, quick. That about sums up my meal experience at Maharaja’s Indian Cuisine and Grocery. The menu appears to offer both a vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal plate each day, along with some ala carte items. The grocery wall has a frozen and refrigerated food section, and dry and canned goods imported from India. I make a decent amount of curried dishes at home, so this was nice to see. The man who runs the place was cordial, his(I assume) wife was quiet and unassuming, and she seemed to running the kitchen. What a nice addition to Natomas!

Four words. Bang for the buck. They don’t skimp on anything. The taste is just right — perfect spices, very flavorful. The grocery store is a nice addition. Lots of variety, but I don’t have much experience with Indian food so I can’t say too much. I always wondered why more small businesses don’t take this approach. Two businesses in one for a fraction of the expenses.
