First time here. I ordered #1, basic pupusa, and it was pretty good! I’ll have to come back and try some of their baked goods.

Ummmmmm can we say yummy! I have been in search of a pupusa place closer to home. My husband and I usually get our pupusas in the mission but it is such a far trip for a few pupusas. I found this place on Unilocal and I am so glad I did! The pupusas here are far less greasy then the ones I’ve had before. Which isn’t a bad thing! The flavor is great and I actually prefer this place over the one in the mission(too greasy). I ordered two pork and cheese pupusas and my husband had the cheese, pork and beans. Oh boy were these pupusas huge and stuffed full of meat! The cabbage slaw was sweeter than the one I’m use to but it was delicious! We also tried their famous baked goodie called the quesadilla. It’s is a super buttery cornbread type cake. To die for! I will be back!

More than a bakery selling the best Salvadorean sweets, they also sell hot food including pupusas. Made to order which take about 20 min, so it’s best to call in your order before you arrive. My favorite sweet is a cake called quesadilla because it’s made from 4 different cheeses. I prefer the muffins over the pan baked, but either is yummy! Enjoy!

Any pupusaria already gets two stars in my book. That being said, the pupusas were a little dry. They felt a bit«healthier» than the average pupusa without the grease! The curtido wasn’t great and the red sauce tasted like tomato sauce… I wouldn’t go back unless I were just hanging out in the area.

I tried my first pupusa here today. I don’t know what they are supposed to taste like, but what I had was quite tasty! The flavor was very reminiscent of a tamale, only different.(It’s like a flatbread of corn masa with a filling inside.) The slightly spicy cole slaw topping and orange colored sauce that came with the pupusas enhanced the flavors. I tried two kinds: the pork & cheese and the beans and cheese. They have a ~very~ good horchata there. Not too sweet and sugary. The lady told me that she added freshly roasted, peeled, and ground up cacao beans to the horchata… and she gave me a taste. Muy delicioso! I bought a packet of unroasted cacao beans and some Salvadorean horchata mix to try my hand at making some at home. The shop itself is tiny. It’s rather hard to spot unless you’re really looking for it. It’s located in the same shopping center that DD’s Discounts is in. The strip mall center is on the south side of Mack Road. The neighborhood is in a rather bad area, admittedly. I would hesitate to go there anytime after dusk. There are lots of baked items there that I will have to try the next time I stop by. The pupusas were $ 1.85 each when I was there today. The nice lady behind the counter made them fresh for me.

This is not just a bakery, they also serve authentic Salvadoran food here. Two things go right at this location: The price — okay, so pupusas are supposed to be cheap, generally it’s one for about $ 2. Not here, $ 1.25 each, delicious. BigMcLargeMcHuge cup of Horchata? $ 2(que bueno!) The food — Unbelievable. My pupusa revuelta was probably the best I’ve had, period. The woman working there obviously went to the back and made it as I was waiting. Had tons of flavor and the right mix of pork, cheese, and beans. This location serves Sacramento’s minority Salvadoran community and it’s very obvious it’s a specific market since this place sells everything from phone cards, salvadoran candy, stickers to show your Salvadoran pride, and has pictures and postcards from the country. They need to focus more on the food and need to advertise more. Ugh. Check it out if you’re in the area.
