After just 2 visits with Kevin I’m convinced he’s a walking, talking hair genius! I have very curly, frizzy hair with hard to cover grey that I have tried to manage myself with home coloring kits. I was a hot mess! On my first visit with Kevin he gave me an awesome hair cut and talked to me about my color and a straightening treatment. I have been hesitant about straightening treatments because honestly I really just try not to anger the beast this is my hair! I bit the bullet and set up an appointment for coloring and straightening. Something about Kevin made me feel like 1. he knows what he’s talking about and 2. he wouldn’t set me up for failure. Sure enough I now have gorgeously colored and straight hair for the first time in years! He is a true southern gentleman with a great sense of humor and sense of what his client needs. I love the ability to schedule my appointments on line and convenience of his shop location. The pricing is comparable to other shops in our area. I was introduced to Kevin through a very trusted, known, and talented industry professional in LA nearly 10 years ago. As I traveled back home to the Sacramento area often, and he came highly recommended, I thought I’d give him a try – and I am not someone to trust easily right away, especially with my hair. But I was so impressed with not only the end result, but with Kevin, too. His personality is infectious and it’s clear that he not only loves what he does, but is damn good at it, too.
Over the years, I’ve lived in various parts of the world, finding local stylists wherever I was – but I always came back to Kevin. After going to high-​end salons in LA, NYC, London, and SF, I’ve never found anyone I liked more (as a person and as a result) as Kevin. So much so, that I currently drive several hours just to get my hair cut by him on a regular basis. And because of all of that, I’ve built a relationship with Kevin that goes beyond just a stylist, to a dear friend. I never thought when I first got my hair cut by him, that I’d actually get a great friend out of it, too. And while I’ve never had the experience of Kelli cutting my hair, she’s just as personable and funny – making the environment of the salon that much better. The people that I’ve heard go to her swear by her, as well.
I highly recommend Kevin Michael Salon. I’ve liked him so much I’ve been coming here for nearly 10 years, and will continue to do so for the many years to come.

I walked by Kevin Michael Salon almost everyday and i always seen amazing work being done, one day i decided i need to call and make an appointment to fix my jacked up hair. I got a call back almost immediately, Kelli took me in that day and as soon as i took a step in the salon i felt so confortable. Kelli takes so much pride in what she does and it shows in her work. I love my hair! I love the time i spend in the salon! After years of not so great colors and cuts, ive found my STYLIST AND I LOVE HER!

I’ve finally found an awesome hair stylist I can trust since moving to Sacramento! Kevin is a master of his trade. My cowlicks and weird face means it can be difficult to work with me, but Kevin is one of the only stylists I’ve ever met that I’ve trusted to do what he thinks is best, rather than just listening to what I need. He listens, as well as works his expertise. Oh, he’s funny as f*ck & down to earth too lol! If you’re in need of a new style all together, or want a truly proper cut, with attention to detail, Kevin Michael is the man.

Kelli is the Queen of Hair Color! She mixes up the colors and turns my ash brown and gray hair into a deep auburn with violet under tones that is so rich I get frequent compliments on the color from strangers. She is also funny and sweet. I look forward to seeing her and Kevin every five weeks.

My husband has been going here for a few years now, and when I moved to the area I tagged along with him… Soooo glad I did!
I am really picky with who touches my hair — I went to the same hairdresser for 16 years and refused to go anywhere else, even after I moved out of area. Then I moved countries and couldn’t go there any more, so I let my hair grow, and grow and grow.
Flash forward a few years later and my hair was down to my butt.
When I first started going to Kevin, all I wanted him to do (I’m sure much to his dismay) was to trim the ends. I had gotten very attached to my long mane and wasn’t ready to do anything with it that resulted in losing more than half an inch. He somehow managed to make it look great, even by just taking the bare minimum off of it.
Then one day, I decided enough was enough, and decided to get it cut for real. Despite my big decision, I was still pretty nervous about getting it shorter, but Kevin was fantastic about it and made me fee totally at ease. He then proceeded to give me an fantastic below shoulder cut, which I was in love with — despite holding 15 inches of hair in my hand (I donated it).
I live in San Jose and work in San Francisco, so could go to any number of highly rated salons, but I refuse to. I (and my husband) are more than happy to travel from here to Sac just to get our hair cut with Kevin.
Also, not only is he an amazing stylist, he is also just a great guy. Funny, sweet and so creative.
And I couldn’t finish this review without mentioning miss Kelly too — whilst I have not had my hair cut by her, I have had it washed by her and witnessed her work, which is also awesome — as is she!
So, in short, do yourself a favor and get over to the salon — you won’t regret it!

If you want to have your hair look awesome and you want to feel awesome make an appointment with Kevin he is truly a master at what he does! Once you have him or Kelli do your hair you will never want to go anywhere else. It’s excellent service and talent. It’s not just a hair cut its an experience that you’ll look forward to every time you go back!

The Kevin Michael Salon is the only place in town to get your hair done. Kevin has been doing my hair for about 10 years and he keeps it current and fresh each time. He is an outstanding hair stylist and colorist! I have never left the salon unhappy. Kelly is also a super talented stylist and colorist and does my daughter’s hair while Kevin does my hair. Both my daughter and I have super challenging hair (a lot of it) and we have never felt like a burden to Kevin and Kelly. Together Kevin and Kelly make everyone feel super welcome, loved, and beautiful. We are welcomed with a hug and tons of laughter. I am so appreciative of the relaxed and fun environment. When I am at my appointment — I feel catered to, I feel like I have taken a mini-​spa vacation. Getting your hair washed is the best — the offer a hot steamed towel and a scalp massage. The salon sells an amazing hair product line called Davines. I love it! If you want fabulous hair and want to laugh and enjoy yourself every time you visit the salon, you cannot go wrong with Kevin Michael Salon.

Danielle is my Hairstylist and I think she is great. Rates are VERY reasonable and atmosphere is VERY professional. I have been twice now and she is consistent and I like that!!! Everyone in the salon seems VERY friendly and they have these cool but weird lay down wash tubs for your hair (it is really cool).

There is no better recommendation than witnessing the work that a stylist does on someone else. My hair stylist went into labor early and I was in desperate need of a cut/​color before a wedding I was attending. I asked my friend who she goes to as I loved her cut and she mentioned Kevin Michael Salon. On a whim, Kevin had a cancellation that day and I took it and the rest is history. Great ambiance, great chemistry among the customers and stylist, greatest scalp massage (for free), amazing skills and most importantly great hearts. They truly love what they do!

They do amazing work! Danielle did a great job with my hair! The shop is so nice warm and comforting will definitely be going back! They make you feel like you’re one of the family! It was non stop laughing in there with my stylist, the owner and other clients! Thank you Danielle for being amazing at your job and thank you Kevin for your salon! They are a must go to! Never had such a good time getting my hair done!

I just got my hair done this week at Kevin Michael Salon for the first time. The salon is great, comfortable and the staff was so nice. It was refreshing being in a place that they made you feel like «one of the family». I went in with an idea of what I wanted and what I didn’t and gave my head over to stylist Lindsey and she did a great job! Honestly was better than I was even thinking, it was perfect. I have only had it done for 3 days and have been stopped by at least 5 people asking where I got my hair done, and without hesitation I made the referral!
I will definitely be going back and am thinking of trying some of there other service too!

Danielle is fairly new to Kevin Michael and she is fantastic! I was greeted on time and we had a discussion about my hair and what I wanted to do. I showed her a few pics and then we headed to shampoo. Amazing! Shampoo with a steam towel and scalp massage. She is very friendly and knowledgeable. My hair turned out perfect, I truly looked just like the pic I showed her. Reasonably priced as well, especially for what you get. I will be back!

Kevin Michael Salon is the BEST. Kelli Manes is excellent. We discussed what I wanted in hair style. She listened and I went from long to short hair and it is exactly what I have wanted for years. So easy to take care of and I won’t go anywhere else. Kelli does a great head massage while shampooing your hair. I’m looking forward to next visit. Friendly atmosphere, very clean, prices reasonable. What more could anyone want? To go anywhere else, you are wasting your time.
Kevin is a sweetheart and only has the best stylist.

Since I’ve been giving myself haircuts (if you consider shaving your head a haricut) for the past 5 years, I’m not too familiar with the hair styling/​hair care industry. Both Kevin Michael and Kelli made this visit a comfortable and very enjoyable experience. I recieved an amazing haircut and mane control at an afforable price and the atmosphere was fantastic. I can honestly say that I’ll never take clippers to my own head again. I have found where I want my hair to be done.
Thank you so much! My girlfriend now loves my hair and can’t keep her hands off of me!

A top notch salon with talented stylists and a relaxing atmosphere.
This salon is becoming a local staple in the Land Park community. Everyone that works here is genuinely interested in making your experience first class. Come in for a haircut and a relaxing facial. After one visit you will be hooked!
This is also a great place to pick up quality hair products, face creams and lotions.
Parking is also never a problem, with street parking and a private lot in the back.

OK, so I have been getting my hair done at KMS for about a year now, and there are probably 467 reasons why I love, love, love love it.
First and foremost, my hair looks great. I see Rachel Aston and she does an absolutely fabulous job. My hair has never been healthier, and I feel like she actually listens when I tell her what I want — oh, and she gives the world’s BEST scalp massage when she shampoos. I haven’t had my hair done by Kevin, but I have seen his work and it always looks amazing, too.
I also love the atmosphere. It’s a small salon, but I love that about it. Reading over these reviews, I have noticed that some people have commented on the location. Is the building itself the trendiest or newest? No. But, they have done a great job decorating it on the inside, and the products/​appliances they use are just as good as anything you will find in the more expensive midtown salons. Plus, it’s located right on the border of Land Park & Midtown, so it’s super convenient for those of us who live in Land Park/​Pocket. Oh, and another bit about convenience — you can book appointments ONLINE! I love that.
But, as always, it really comes down to the people. It took me over a year after moving here from SoCal to find a place where I felt comfortable with the atmosphere and the prices. Twice I went to one of the big salons in midtown (I won’t mention names but it starts with an «M», ends with a «C» and cost me $ 300 for a highlight and cut before tip), before realizing that I could actually fly down to San Diego and get my hair done there for what that place was charging. Rachel’s prices are much more reasonable, and I don’t feel like I’m on parade at the hipster club while under foils.
All in all, I completely love KMS. I cannot recommend highly enough.

I JUST came back from Kevin Michael Salon for a cut. Summer was my stylist, and she is AMAZING! The prices are great for a salon with such talented stylists. She washed, cut and styled. I’m the kinda person that will literally cry over a bad haircut for weeks, and I told Summer of my fears. She gave me the best cut with long layers I’ve ever had. I was referred to her by my girlfriend, after she and her mom both got great cuts… so i know she’s consistently awesome. The products they use are great, and unlike all other salons, they don’t try to put a gun to your head to force you to buy them after they use them on you. Love that.
The salon is super cute. To those people whining about the location not being in midtown, I’d rather have a cute salon with cheaper rent (meaning better prices for us customers). Unlike midtown, there is PLENTY of non-​metered parking right out front.
Next I’m trying their spa services (wax/​facials) because your first visit is half off! Doesn’t get any better than KMS!
