Enjoyed the patio seating, fast service. unfortunately my French toast was overwhelmingly saturated with oil. I thought it was syrup but the oil didn’t give me the slightest bit of room to taste the food. I trigger placing it on a napkin to absorb but was husbands pancakes were perfect though!

I normally wouldn’t go back and change a review but my service today by J****** was really awful. Took her over 20 minutes before she even came to our table to greet us. We were seated at 11:20 and she didn’t come until 11:42. Didn’t get water/coffee until 11:50. Food was also good this time around. It came out quickly and tasted fresh. I was always told the service here is pretty spotty, but that’s unacceptable. At least greet us and say you’re swamped.

I come here for their awesome happy hour deals. Their food is also good and they don’t skimp out on portion size. As for service, BEWARE Customers! When paying in cash, CHECK for the correct change received. Our waitress, I forget her name, was a petite blonde. She short– changed us by $ 16. Not sure if this was an honest mistake and she was bad at math or if it was intentional. But She did seem a little sketch after dropping off our change, she completely disappeared and ignored us when we were trying to flag her down. Another waitress noticed that we were trying to get her attention, so she’d finally come to our table. We told her she shortened us by $ 16 and her reaction seemed unauthentic. Not apologetic whatsoever, but she did give our money back.

Iron Horse Tavern is just another gastropub, but one that is serious and delivers great drinks/food, like you’d think all gastropubs should. I stopped in for a refreshing cocktail and some snacks. If you learn anything from this review, it’s that you must absolutely order some mac and cheese since they have a bunch of different variations. Service was excellent at the bar, by the way. You MUST get a trio of mac in these flavors: 1) Bacon and Egg 2) Truffle 3) Tavern Mac OR Chicken Chorizo OR Lobster Better yet, if you’re in a group of friends(say, 3 – 4) and you mainly just want drinks with a snack on the side, then just get every variety of mac and cheese and have the time of your life! I also tried the Asian Style Street Tacos(marinated beef, kimchee slaw, asian bbq sauce, jalapeños, laughing buns). It was pretty delicious and would also recommend it if you’re not so into mac and cheese. Bottom line, come to Iron Horse Tavern for your libation and mac and cheese needs!

This is a great spot for happy hour! They have drink deals and half off appetizers and small plates. There’s lots of space around the bar area, but there are also some seating available in the dining room area and outside in their patio. I like the open lounge seating near the bar for small and big groups. Their cocktails are really good, both wells and their own concoctions. I usually get whiskey sours and the cocktails garnished with flowers like the Daybreak, which are solid choices. The pizzas are also good, especially at happy hour prices, and all their serving sizes for the small plates menu are pretty big too. Overall, the food is okay, but come here for the drinks!

Visited this place for brunch earlier today. Service was better than average as we were attended and sat quite fast. Enjoyed the environment and location of Iron Horse Tavern. During this visit, my friend and I split an omelette and waffle. Both tasted delicious and very filling. Price wise, this place gives a decent amount for the cost of entrée. Im definitely a of this location and will be revisiting again for brunch. When compared to Cafeteria, I’d recommend this place due to pricing and quantity of awesome food that was delivered.

Being a late Sunday night the place wasn’t packed out but it seems to be a local spot for people. Service was friendly and the pizza hit the spot. Waiting for a friend at the bar, the bartender was friendly and didn’t rush my order. When my friend arrived I was able to move to the outdoor seating quickly and it was a good night out. Next time I visit Sacramento I will be visiting for brunch!

Had high expectations coming here seeing all the good reviews. Portions are big, outdoor patio is nice. We ordered: — fried pickle and onions(good) — trio of macs(truffle, lobster and ham — these were the best foods out of the others we ordered) — steak, egg and cakes(the cornbread is good, the steak tastes weird, not sure if it’s because of the sauce, comes with onion rings too) — sea bass(the fish is good, don’t care about the sides that comes with it) — taco(my friend’s, I didn’t try) — lobster roll(okay, nothing special) Service is slow. I think there is only 1 waiter that tends to the entire patio.

I’ve been waiting for a long time to try Iron Horse Tavern, and least to say, it was worth all the wait. My family and I tried the restaurant on Mother’s Day, and though there were many customers, we were seated outside their wonderful patio. Perfect seating arrangement for those sunny spring and summer days! Though it seems like a high priced restaurant, you get the quality you pay for. It’s quite affordable for a Midtown restaurant in Sacramento. Their Cubano sandwich for $ 12.95 is better than any sandwich you can get at restaurants. You get to choose if you want a side of fries or salad. Their Lobster Paella is just right to share for 4 people for $ 23.95. For an American restaurant, I was impressed with the seasoning of their Korean Fried Chicken — they got it just right. And don’t forget to order the Clam Chowder. To wash it all down, you can choose from their huge bar selection, or keep it simple and order a Raspberry Cooler mocktail. Overall, my expectations did not disappoint. Looking forward to come back one day and try more of the options on their menu.

Prior to coming here, I called ahead and asked for the wait time. I was told 40 – 45 minutes for my party of 3 and a dog. My friends and I met up at this restaurant at around a little before noon on a Sunday. When I put my name in for a table, I was told the same 40 – 45 minute wait time. We walked around downtown and visited other places while waiting. We came back and were told we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for a spot. I was a little irritated because we watched people of different sized parties getting seated first, but we decided that since we had waited this long, we would continue to wait the additional 20. We were finally seated at 1:30pm on the patio. Originally, we were seated at a community table(the picnic benches), but were then moved to a private table in the shade because it opened up. We didn’t ask for this table, they asked us, so I was very pleased that they do keep the customer’s best interests at heart. I ordered the eggs benedict, my friend ordered the chicken and pancakes, and my other friend ordered the Tavern burger. We also got 2 bottomless mimosas($ 12, OJ only) and a draft beer. The three of us were all very pleased with our food and they even brought out a bowl of water for my pup. My only suggestion is to come at a time that isn’t as busy because the wait time was ridiculous and since there were so many people, the food took a while to come out and the busboy was able to help us more than our own waitress(because she had so many tables). Overall, I would definitely recommend if you have the time!

Sidetracked here with the wife’s out of town Aunt here for breakfast/lunch on the way to the airport. Saturday mid morning. Decent crowd but not over crowded, plenty of seating available — outside seating in front was full — gorgeous morning, it was. Warm somewhat industrial atmosphere(brick, darker wood, heavy metals, and insert panel drop ceiling). Central bar with seating around. Heavy wooden plank tables and comfy bench in the booth where we sat. Brunch-ish menu, at this time. I’d been here before but mostly for libations and minor eats. Today, it was coffee, 2 two egg breakfasts(potatoes, thick cut bacon, and opted for the biscuit for a 95cent add on. do it, totally worth the 95cents) and the Tavern Burger, medium and straight up(no adds). Greens to go with the burger. In normal fashion, we marched into each others plates sampling some of each as we ate our own. Great meals all around. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to start with some fried onions and pickles. It was a good idea. The portion was more than enough for the 3 of us as we only tapped half of the goods. Great experience, plenty of food, gracious and attentive service. Highly recommend for breakfast/lunch(brunch). There was nothing of note that I’d change about our visit — except sit outside. Half star crap coming … let’s do 4.5 There were some awesome looking bloody mary’s coming out from the bar and the temptation almost buried my good sense.

A brunch worth trying — if you can stomach the wait and having to beg for your mimosas. Came here for a weekend brunch with friends. Normally an hour plus wait time for brunch is no big deal for me if there’s a bar. But if you’ve never been here before during the weekend mob for brunch, do yourself a favor and bring your small handbag because it’s elbows-rubbing crowded at the bar and the wait is long. Good thing that Bloody Mary was legit. Bottomless mimosas — well, kinda. They don’t give you a carafe like most places. You have to flag down a server to pour you another tiny glass, which is a pain given how busy they get during brunch and how few servers they have. This Flintstone kid is all grown up and paying a pretty penny for your brunch… now put down that carafe and let us pour our own mimosas! I wouldn’t waste my time or money on those again unless they change this ridiculousness. Menu wasn’t big at all, but they did accommodate the vegan in our group. Stuffed French toast was pretty damn good — I’d recommend splitting this with whoever is with you as it’s quite rich. Fried pickles and onions? Why not? More than enough to share among the group. Get these.

I’ve been wanting to come here for happy hour(Mon — Fri 3pm — 6pm) and I’m happy I finally did. ½ off appetizers and pizzas, so there are a lot of options. I ordered a mocktail to start– watermelon fizz. I liked the rim, but the drink was too sweet. I wasn’t that hungry as I’d been eating all day, so I only ordered the tuna poke nachos. I definitely recommend them. I wasn’t able to finish all the wonton chips, but I made sure I ate all the toppings. The rest of my group ordered entrees and they all enjoyed their food too. My friends also ordered dessert. Desserts didn’t appeal to me as they all sounded very sweet. I tried some of the stuffed French toast and yes it was sweet. I liked the berries and vanilla ice cream that accompanied it though. Portions are big– basically two meals in one. They have some interesting menu items, so I would like to come back and try them. I also like the atmosphere of the place– especially the front patio. It’s a nice place to chill and catch up with friends.

When I walked in exactly at 8am Saturday morning, the hostess was on the phone taking a phone order so we stood at the front for a few minutes. That’s when we got to appreciate this beautiful restaurant. There’s a huge bar as soon as you enter on the right side. There were booth and tables throughout the restaurant and beautiful hardwood floors. There was also ample amount of seating outside as well. When the hostess got off the phone, she seated us right away in a booth. It took a while before one of the wait staff came up to us to take our order but when she did we were able to put in our order. I ended up getting steak, eggs and cakes and the wife ordered Belgian waffles and sunny side ups. We also asked for two black coffee’s with our breakfast. She brought them to our table and asked her what brand of coffee they served. She replied,“Peerless coffee and I will be back in a few with your meals.” I smiled and took a sip of my brew. It didn’t taste like a high quality coffee to me. Who cares after this breakfast I was headed to Tupelo to get a hammerhead. Our breakfast came right away and my steak, eggs, onion rings and corn cakes looked beautiful. So did my wife’s Belgian waffles with powdered sugar and fresh berries along with two sunny side up eggs. We stared at our breakfast for a few seconds, just admiring it. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce was a perfect medium rare. I broke the yoke of the two sunny sides and dipped my crispy onions rings in them. The corn cakes were nice and buttery but I found it crumbly making it hard to pick up with fork. It was still flavorful but it didn’t have a buttermilk pancake texture. I sound like I’m complaining about my meal but there’s nothing left of it when I was done. I look at my wife and I knew she was getting full. She looked at me and forked one of the mini Belgian waffles and put it on my plate. I ate that too. I enjoyed those mini waffles when I took a bite especially along with the fresh berries… yum! This place serves great food and I will be definitely returning.

Yummy! Looking for cool place to enjoy some lunch or brunch? Iron Horse definitely has got you covered! I’ve been here twice already, once for Sunday brunch, and once for a weekday lunch, and both times have been stellar! Hostess is always attentive and if you have to wait, they will text you when a table is ready. Plenty of places to sit and wait and grab a drink while you are waiting for a table. On my brunch occasion I tried their waffles, and I love their set up. Mini waffles made to order with fruit and sauces on the side. Perfectly fluffy and delicious. For lunch I had ordered their«asian inspired» street tacos which were served with marinated meat, kim chi, jalepenos served on a bao. Definitely flavorful and tasty, just the right amount to satisfy my tummy. And OHGOSH, their beignets are to die for! They give you almost like a dozen of them for like 6.00! They come dusted in powered sugar and served with a side of chocolate and berry sauces! The next time I return, I would love to try the Mac Bar(assorted macaroni and cheese plates!) Service is great, atmosphere is hip and fun, awesome location to people watch outside. Will definitely return!

When my dad and I finally got a Sunday off at the same time, Joe K. suggested that we take him to a restaurant located downtown that served authentic cajun & creole food. Since he is from New Orleans, I was excited to treat him to something that might remind him of home instead of the usual fast food my parents are always eating. To our disappointment and lack of checking said restaurant’s days of opening, we found it to be closed on Sundays. So we ended up driving a little further down to look for an alternative place that would hopefully save the day. After passing several eateries in the area, we settled on Iron Horse Tavern. And I have to admit, I had little hope that my dad and I were going to be impressed with a tavern atmosphere when our hearts were set on southern cooking. As we entered Iron Horse, the staff was very welcoming and found a table for us even though it was fairly busy. The menus offered many different delicious sounding options, but I just couldn’t get over my negativity and practically lost my appetite, so I ordered a Farm Salad. My dad got the Sweet & Spicy Shrimp, while Joe got the Tavern Burger. While we waited for our food orders, I noticed that the restaurant had a nice interior with full bar that would make a good place to hang out with friends. I soon got over my silly attitude of disappointing my dad and realized that it was nice to be there with him and enjoy his company. When our food arrived, I noticed my salad was definitely pretty plain as salads go. It was a pile of field greens with a chincy sprinkle of bleu cheese and I could barely find a cranberry mixed within. The creamy herb vinaigrette dressing didn’t add any additional flavor since it was also a rare addition. On the brighter side, my dad really enjoyed his shrimp dish and Joe raved about how good his gourmet burger was. It was cooked to perfection and had all the delicious trimmings to go with it! I got to taste one of the shrimps off my dad’s plate and had to agree that the honey-mayonnaise sauce was outstanding. We ended up ordering another shrimp dinner for my mom to go! I really regret not ordering that dish for myself when I noticed it the first time around! Since my dad and Joe K. loved their food, I gave 4 stars. Had to take off 1 because my salad didn’t impress. But I’m happy that my parents were impressed enough, that they are talking about returning again!

This place has a nice ambience for a mini meeting between two or three individuals. It’s casual enough, yet nice and has an open patio area. Portions aren’t too crazy and messy. And they were playing relaxing music like John Mayer and other songs of that sort. It’s not cheap looking and the food is often served on slabs of wood or other«instagrammable» type ware. I got the poke nachos as recommended by other as well as the Asian(kbbq bulgogi) sliders. The nachos were tasty, and served with sriracha mayo and wasabi cream(extra sauce is a must!) the chips are very crispy, poofy and surprisingly filling. The Asian sliders were tasty and the breeding had a mild sweetness to it(as most Asian steamed buns are) but was pretty small portion size. They came out to a total of $ 23 which wasn’t too bad. The food came out quickly and I couldn’t complain about the service. They were very friendly but forgot about our extra sauces until we had to ask again, but it happens. I would come back here, not so much for the food but for the environment if I want to go to a more mature, hip, place to chill(: I hear brunch is the way Togo, spill try for that next time. I would give it a 3.75 stars.(But utilizing proper rounding techniques, it’s displayed as a «4»).

I’ve been here a few times on different occasions and each time has been refreshing and enjoyable. They have a good selection of appetizers, entrees, and drinks. They have plenty of indoor, outdoor, and booth seating. Great for dates, friends, small and big groups, celebrations, birthdays, HH, late night, etc. DRINKS: Giant peach(taste like juice, but has alky), Russian Standard Mule(can’t go wrong with a moscow mule!), Mustang Sally! Ahh they’re all good, except the Dirty Mojito(cinnamon is just not my thing) FOOD: There’s still so many I haven’t tried. So far, I would recommend the Tuna Ahi Nachos(big portion and refreshing), mac and cheese trio(get the lobster!). PARKING: Location of this restaurant is at the corner, across from R15. Parking is everywhere on the streets and parking lot. Might be one or two blocks away but doable!

Brunch is the way to go! We came back the same weekend that we tried dinner for the first time — and my 5-stars for IHT were secured! I haven’t had many bad brunch places, but their brunch topped my dinner experience for sure. Just like any other place in Sac, there’s a wait for Sunday brunch time. The menu is pretty simple but unique in concept and flavors. They still have an Asian flair to their menu, like their Korean fried chicken. I decided on the Steak, Eggs and Cakes… a portion fit for a king, but that’s fine with me because I had delicious leftovers for lunch the next day! The steak was a bit overcooked for my liking but I still enjoyed it, paired with the chimichurri, perfectly sunny side up eggs, crispy onion rings, and corn cake. Definitely will be back, IHT is a new top brunch place for me!
