Dr. Lewis is fantastic. I would not consider going to anyone else when in need of this type of service, and in fact am returning to him for another eye surgery. I am grateful to the friend who talked me into going to him, in spite of the distance involved. My eye doctor here was impressed with the results which further convinced me that it was a great decision.

My HB saw Dr Richard Lewis a couple years ago for the trabeculectomy surgeries. He first perfomed the surgery on one eye in March of 2013. Then the second surgery on the other eye in September of 2013. Both surgeries were performed at Mercy General in the outpatient portion of the building down in the basement. These surgeries were performed bc my HB’s eye pressure where getting high even with eye drops after so many years! My HB had been seeing opthamologists even the head of the department for quite a while. He was recommended by the head doctor to Dr Lewis who performs cataract surgeries and is a glaucoma specialist as well. We just so happened to run into a previous coworker’s HB about to have cataract surgery by Dr Lewis too on the same day my HB was about to have his surgery. Both of us were waiting for our HBs in the waiting room at the same time! Now my HB doesn’t need eye drops for each eye. He does see Dr Lewis on a routine basis but we are pretty happy that he no longer needs to worry about the higher eye pressure for each eye. If you question Dr Richard Lewis’ reputation just read on the internet about him, he has quite a prestigious resume. I was very happy to know that and glad my HB doesn’t have to worry about the pending glaucoma now that he has had the needed surgeries to prevent that. Go to Dr Lewis with confidence. You won’t be sorry. I’m surprised he doesn’t have more reviews. It’s probably bc a majority of his patients are a lot older and don’t do the internet!

I have been dreaming of LASIK for 10 years, but wanted to wait for my vision to stabilize before I did it. I went to Dr. Grutzmacher because my optometrist recommended him. I had thought of going to one of those discount advertisers, but decided that these are my eyes and they deserved the best. I called around and, for the most part, Dr. Grutzmacher’s prices were comparable to the other reputable places. In the end, I had intralase, with some sort of wavefront(I don’t remember the name), a procedure that many of the other companies I spoke to did not even offer me. I am participating in co-care with my optometrist and, even though I had seen him the week before, Dr. Grutzmacher’s staff still did a very thorough work-up prior to my surgery and I felt confident that they were very knowledgeable and that I was a good candidate, taking minimal risks in getting it done. I had watched a friend get it performed with the keratome, which thoroughly freaked me out. She told me that watching the blade was the scariest part of the procedure. In fact, I was extremely nervous for the procedure and my nerves were magnified after having watched her. Fortunately, the staff at the laser center did their best to put me at ease. Dr. Grutzmacher was aware of my nerves and gave me Valium. The staff also gave me a little teddy bear, which I held onto for dear life during the procedure. As for the procedure, itself, with the intralase, there was no blade, so I did not have the problem my friend had. Obviously, there was some discomfort during the procedure, but it was not painful and was short-lived. It’s cutting into your cornea and reshaping it, so it’s not going to feel like a massage. Dr. Grutzmacher was also very reassuring during the procedure, so I knew what was going on. In the end, it was over in like 15 minutes(my ride told me it felt like 10). This is literally day 1 after my LASIK surgery and I am already so ecstatic with my results. I was driving from my follow up and I swear the sky looked bluer, the greens brighter, the leaves sharper, etc., than even with my glasses or contacts(this could be because I had only a slight astigmatism, for which my glasses and contacts to not correct, but my LASIK did). If you are thinking about LASIK, I highly recommend Dr. Grutzmacher.
